Don’t get aftermarket if you can avoid it! The mounting holes aren’t tapped and are more flimsy. I recommend trying to find originals first.

It wasn’t. It was an experimental thing done with 92 MJ that ended up being 93 model year MJs. There was one guy on here who had one, dropped off the face of the earth, the MJ popped up for sale at some point then disappeared again. So it’s a Chrysler approved production model but short lived. wait a minute. That may not be an original one. I agree with Mike. We need that VIN.

Well the problem wasn’t ever really corrected. The MJ went through a parent exchange in 88 and Chrysler didn’t change a whole lot except added headrests to the bench seat in 90. There may not be any safe ways to move the seat forward without either relocating the mounting points and hammering the trans tunnel down a little. Oh and if you have carpet, that could also be holding it back some. Come to think of it, my wife is 5’1” and I was able to move my bench far enough forward and she was able to reach the pedals just fine when I was teaching her how to drive stick, now that I think back on that moment.

Honestly, I think I’ve seen more posts about owners being taller and squeezing in the MJ vs being short and not able to reach the pedals. But the bench seat has got to move forward enough for you to do so. Since yours is an 86, the grease, if any left, that the rails is rising on is about 40 years old. Might have to lubricate all the moving parts of the seat and it should be able to move pretty damn close if not all the way to the center console.

Well this is unfortunate. I was hoping it was gonna be a bit more like a drive shaft and be rebuilt.

Sounds like the smart way to do it. If it helps any, the MJ bed mat has the AMC logo on, with 'Jeep' next to it in the center of the mat.

Has anyone rebuilt one before? Just looking for the right u-joints if this has been done.

Ooooo that is a big question. If ya do, it should be the red white and blue scheme.

Or converting from manual to flag manual mirrors or manual to tow mirrors. There like 5 different avenues here haha.

Not much bad about it honestly. Just was replaced by the 231. Though I did find that GM used a version of the 207. 207C. C meaning Chevy probably.

As far as I know, the 207 is just an older version of the 231. Guess a quick Google could say if there’s any other issues with the 207. But with me, I haven’t seen or felt any issues.

Hey. We went in expecting results and by damn we still got some results! And I had a feeling that speedo cable end was the same. Be rather odd to have a unique end for the 207 but everything else is standard. Really out of AMCs wheelhouse to do that on the waning years.

You have to take the cluster apart to get to the pot on the back of the gauge itself.

I’m interested. Gives me some avenues for my 207 in the XJ.

@boxyjeep That off-road decal in this manual looks pretty cool if you haven’t made this yet. Also this has good info. I thought Chrysler was blowing it out their butt to call the AMC engines “power tech” to remove the history of AMC but looks like AMC was already calling their 4.0L “power tech”

Yeah the Bendix belts are very rebuildable. The AMC ones are not and are very fragile.

Wait, will such bolt to a 207? Might be a worthwhile upgrade since the 207 speedo gear is also unique to the 207.

Nope. Completely different animal. On the 228/9 you can as that carried over to everything else but the 207 is unique for some odd reason.
