If you come to AZ there is plenty to do. I’d take on hiking if you are here. I see the Grand Canyon has been mentioned. I just recently went.....it’s a giant hole in the ground. It’s neat to go look at and see if you want to just see it, but the pictures from magazines and the internet do justice. But I’d love to go hike it and do a trek down into the canyon. Sedona is a must. Petrified forest should be neat. It’s hot there, but have never been there. Or go to tombstone. Supposedly pretty neat and haunted. Also there is Route 66. There’s an old decommissioned rail tunnel somewhere off the 66 around flagstaff that my troop and I hiked to and stayed in. It was really neat. Also supposedly haunted.

The head gasket could do that as it is steam escaping through what could be failing valve seals. Which means you will need a head rebuild. The valve seals can be had for cheap and you could replace them on you own and completely skip the professional rebuild step. But I wouldn't recommend just replacing the seals if the head has never been serviced

You could do a tear down and check the head, head gasket and piston head. Chances are the head gasket could be blown if it still is the original AMC gasket. Valves could be stuck partially open causing a loss in compression there, aw Minuit beat me to it.

I believe that front valve needs to go to the air box. It looks like there is a opening at the bottom of the box that is plugged. Like I said ‘86 is a whole other animal for the Renix years.

Goal is to have it all done and assembled by the end of August. Figure it should take me a weekend to tear out the dash and install everything under the hood. Once I get paid again I’ll get the AC kit and appropriate hoses and such. Winter? Best way I can describe our winter is the equivalence to Alaska’s summer.(been to Alaska during the summer. I can vouch for that MoPar filter. Still a crap load left and I think Chrysler wants to get rid of them. They can be had pretty cheap. But the dealer will get a pack of twelve if they order it for you so they could have them on the shelf until your next oil change. I still have four left at my work.

Chrysler doesn't have a code for the AMC years for some colors, but that's either bad data on their part or lost data. But oddly enough some 86-88 models that I have decoded showed Colorado Red for some and others like mine shows that dumb punk'n one.
