OP has a 2.5L, but I’m curious if you’re experience will translate

It’s hard to say what is what but typically the interior isn’t associated with the engine, just the Jeep. What I’m seeing looks like the 4 terminal connector for the vanity mirror Relay for the power antenna Tweeter connector Can’t really tell what the rest is but definitely a higher trim XJ swap.

Yours made a racket? Dang. Mine didn’t make a sound. But sure as hell caused uneven wear on the pads.

Sensor goes in the same spot as the senders for oil and temp. I don’t have a part number at the moment.

All the chrome handles are metal. Black metal handles stopped being made in 87 for the cheaper plastic. Kinda odd. I remember when I put metal door handles on my MJ to just make new ones, I honestly never did and just put the door handles on because I live in the desert where there’s hardly any rain.

You need the sensors for the gauge not sender. Sender is for the lights. tach gets its signal straight from the coil and the Speedo is cable driven. Speedo itself could be busted or the cable is messed up. Or the gear in the transmission and or transfer case could no longer be making contact.

For the gauge, did you get the ‘sensor’ or did you get the one labeled as ‘sender’?

Oil nor coolant changes would cause the engine to do this. Something electrical would do this related to the fuel and sensors. now you changed the coolant sensor. Which one? Now the only way coolant could do this is if the head gasket has failed and is getting into the combustion chambers.

Huh? I think someone really connecting the name of a car to The painted exterior is deliberately looking for problems where they don’t exist. I wouldn’t stress on this.

I think doing the XJ is a lot less fun and forgiving than the MJ. With the MJ at least you can get the sending unit out without some fancy finagling and you can actually sit up while doing all the work. Vs the XJ having a whole axle in your way.

Yup! 84-86ish only. Went away in an effort for AMC to keep costs down.

On the OEM ones you can just remove the arm and pull the back off. I noticed on aftermarkets that they are sealed units.

Let do some updating. I have yet to do anything. Funds and the Jeeps have been taking my money and time. But wheres the fun if youre not gonna expect that of a pair of 40 year old Jeeps haha. So I did a bit of digging and want to get more power out of this 403. I learned of a popular 350 olds head swap for the 403. I knew where a 350 was in the backyard. So I yanked them and will be doing some cleaning and derusting. I have since learned the heads are 330 heads which makes sense cause the car, or whats left, is a 67 olds. Last year for the 330. But these heads will still bump up my power output like I want, paired with some roller rockers, it should be a real hoot to have and drive.

I’ll take a look at my XJ for ya this evening and see.

You have bigger balls than I. I would be very nervous to drive that hackery at 30mph.

If you want a grocery getter truck, back to factory is the best way to do this. You’ll need an MJ axle as that XJ axle, the leaf mounts are closer to the pumpkin than the MJ ones are. MJ axles are spring under axle or SUA vs the XJ being spring over.

Well ran into fuel pump problems again. Threw a NOS one at the unit and its been fine. Then the gauge rheostat gave up. Addressed it on sunday. Turned out it was a dirty terminal and the were crud built up on the float arm contact. That was weird to see. Got that fixed and now the gauge is right. Also had to move my roommates journey, used the XJ to tow it into the yard for a moment and man that 2wd low, best mod haha. Now I wouldnt do it over a long distance nor want to do it again.

Oh my god, the previous owner used an XJ axle and used the shock mounts from it too. Actually I take it back, it kinda looks like they flipped the XJ axle the other way. Either way your rear end looks like it’s been bastardized.

I mean the Chrysler covers go with that model year so, no complaints from me. It fits them well.
