Looks like I had the same exact issue. Head came off and the block is full of rust. I let it sit full of evaporust for a few days and now it looks clean, just have to get the head rebuilt now, might be too far gone to save

Not sure where to use the infrared thermometer, the surface temp of the metal is going to be more than the coolant inside...

I'm not surprised they are different either, I'm just concerned about how high the temp reads on the REM.

Yes, I relocated my dash gauge sender to the thermostat housing because I was bored, but it reads about the same as it did in the stock location, around 210 under load. Meanwhile my REM is climbing up to 240. I'm pulling the head today to figure out whats going on

Interesting, yeah i guess next step is to pull the head off. I couldn't find any debris and did flush the crap out of it but there is nothing left to try haha. I was convinced the REM was just wrong because the dash gauge doesn't go much above 210.

@jamespwsullivan Hey James this feels dumb but I have the exact same overheating issue on the REM as you did in an earlier post from 2023. What ended up being your resolution? My Jeep has had every part 100% replaced and the REM still shows higher than normal temps (230 range) always. Sorry to dig up the past lol! Just trying to get my Comanche happy

Odometer is at 162,488 miles, and stuck there since the cable is broken. I do believe the miles were counting up until it was parked in the desert for 10 years
