Somewhere but not entirely conclusive results is reports saying Renix runs better with the higher ethanol gas. I can believe that as it would probably pulse less gas into the chambers but who knows for sure. Otherwise Renix will run fine with the higher stuff. Hell you could probably feed it Russian vodka and it wouldn’t know(please don’t do that).

86 was the only year the MJ got it. Finding one that has it or had it is a challenge on its own. Let’s just say you’ll have a better chance of finding a early XJ than the Diesel engine.

Post some pics and I mean good pics and we can all give you an opinion as to what can happen to it. From the sounds of it, you’d be better off finding an XJ for scrap metal parts and save the 86 and make it look nice for the next person.

I highly recommend having your hose made new by the local guys. The old AC stuff isn’t supported much for us.

Under the drivers side of the dash. Poke your head under the column and look to your left and you’ll see a silver ECU box that should say Renix on it.

It’s all cruise control related. That’s the clutch switch so if you had a manual MJ there would be a plunger switch above the clutch pedal to momentarily cut power to the cruise control system. It’s a pretty neat system but tough to get working at times.

They go to the brake switch. So if something happens to the brake switch and causes too much draw, it will blow the fuse to protect the regulator.

Thanks JMO! Not my best but the rust does not make it easy. Anyways I finished welding the other side last night. That’s more cheese than the first side I did. And I ran out of cut off wheels. So I made a quick run to harbor freight, got a pack of 25. Got some Pizza Hut cause it was right there. Hopped back into little red. Went to start her. Cranked her while in gear, she lurched forward. Took her out and tried to restart and I got nothin. Everything went dead. Not sure why. Called my dad to come help. A by stander helped jump us but got nothing. The terminals were a bit dirty but I cleaned them the other day. Dad showed up and we got her going again after a little bit. The cables are now definitely showing their age and resistance. I replaced the power cable forever ago cause the original was basically wire clamped and corroded. Luckily I got the last of mean lemons kit so I’m gonna swap some wires out this afternoon.

I can’t believe another set popped up at a dealer ship. JMO and I snagged the last two in existence a few years back and we got very lucky with the AMC logo ones.

The coil is wayyyy more than anyone wants to pay. $190

I believe it and it’s about time humanity starts looking at the value of old cars. Plus no car manufacture can get some sort of chip for some module on the vehicle to make them work. Goes to show that there’s too much technology to make some wheels spin.
