So you want to hear some real bullzhit? (vent about work...)
whowey replied to rockhardzj's topic in The Pub
Its gotten worse the last few years. We deal with alot of air freight, and I thought OSHA and DOT were bad. TSA is so unbelievably stupid its amazing..... I try to hire vets that got their honorable discharge. Why, it proves without a doubt they can handle the day to day type of work responsibilities. Its actually harder to get them cleared to the TSA's satisfaction than it is for me to get someone that just walks in. TSA= Terminally Stuipid a$$holes........ -

At will non-union employment can do that, but most likely will not. Most people do not think about it, but it cost a lot to hire someone, give them some training so the last thing we want to do is kick them out the door. Back 7 yrs ago when I was doing hires, it spent about $700 just to bring them in the door and put uniforms on them. It costs me roughly $1500 to hire a warehouse laborer. Physical, drug test, background check(thank you TSA), uniforms. And you still haven't worked a day. OSHA 'right to know', HMIS, HM-126-F, Forklift Cert, UPS/Fed-Ex Cert, WMS training, Sexual Harrasment Training, Sarbanes-Oxley and I still haven't taught you anything about the products. -

Look in the hog packing plants(that's where they are in IL)... Or in front of Home Depot(I always see them there in CA) -
Using the Harbor Freight kit, takes about 10 minutes if you stop and clean up the yokes really well.........

Mix some black into his back and make his coat wirey and you have a look-a-like of our dog.

I 'borrowed' my neighbors wi-fi for almost a year.

I've never come close to damaging a wheel bearing with the chisel method. Lay the chisel along the knuckle where the ears for the bolts are, and give it hell. I just removed one friday, and put it back on today. (my son disappeared with the U-joint on me) IIRC the ones with the seviceable bearings were they VERY early ones with the CV shafts.

just because of that name, I will never source from them. I don't like that name. lol. but I would like to see a thread on building this...I'm wanting a snorkel but have a serious lack of $$$ to do the project. They have a really cool catalog. but their prices are OUTRAGEOUSLY high. More expensive than even Grainger in alot of cases.....
-
Are they all the same... No. Ealry models 85-89 use a different hub than the later models. There may be another break, but I know this one from switching from my 88 to 90 wheeling Jeep. Tools needed to remove a unit hub: 13mm 12 point wrench or socket. 36 mm hub nut socket. Brake caliper removal tools. (on my 88's, its a 7mm allen wrench, on my 90 its a 8mm 12 point wrench or socket.) BFH and a chisel(you will need to drive the chisel down between the hub base and face of the knuckle to pop the hub loose. Have a couple of Mountain Dew's and a bowl of Wheaties cause its not a fun job if its never been off.

Chrysler V8 to AX15 Comanche?

If a 302(5.0l) would work, than a 289 would work. Same block. -

I would disagree with you about a 5.2 being 'not that much above' a stock 4.0. Both my ZJ, and my Dad's 3 or 4 Dakotas with the 5.2l had ALOT more stock power than a 4.0l. But I will agree that there hasn't traditionally been aftermarket support to the level of 302, or the SBC motors. Thank ChryCo for that though.. -

Proof of the 5.2l. please..... My father tried, and tried, and tried, and tried to order one with a 5.2 and a manual, and it was never available according to Chryco(In Detroit, his local dealer is run by idiots). He tried every year from 94 until they got rid of 5.2, because that was what he REALLY wanted. -
Congrats....... I think (13years with my ONLY wife)

Depends on how you have it set-up. Mine comes up in closest to my home zipcode first....... Fuel for the hauling makes alot of 'deals' on Greed-Bay not a deal anymore.

Here is my arguement to the 'Chevy is god' people in my local club relating to a member wanting to swap a tree-fiddy into his wrangler. You are going to be facing the same types of obsticles. One thing I was missing was the discussion of emissions requirements in different states. In Illinois testing is only done in the King Blagovich's castle. It is coming to Winnebago county and two counties in the St. Looney area. One way people escape it is to register their vehicles outside of the testing area. But techncially that is also against the law. Some areas would forbid the tree-fiddy swap on the base that you will NEVER get the emission levels below those of a good running 4-cyl or 6 cyl. Some areas rules also would forbid the swap, as you would fail the 'visual' portion of the inspection as the Chevy tree-fiddy never appeared in a Jeep vehicle out of the factory. (sorry, nitpickers. The Wagoneer used a BOP 350, not the same motor.)

Really? Mine are siped like mad, and I can walk through icy conditions with them that leave every other tire going sideways (at least off-road tire). Maybe siping is the difference, but here without them siped..... Bad news in the winter here. I have to agree with Pete about the BFG though. The set I had seemed like a VERY hard compound. Great for tread life, but they really didn't seem to get much grip when cold. Reminded me of BadYear workhorse commerical tires. Damn they last like steel that compound flexes and grips like steel.

Unfortunately, Toyota is worse than Jeep these days for cranking out garbage and calling it 'off-road' That FJ thing is about the closest thing I've seen to reaching the lofty bars of uselessness set by Hummer with GMummer(H2,3,4,etc.)
-
BFG yes. MTR HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!! Absolute crap in the snow/sleet/slush mix. The only thing an MTR is great on is rocks, everything else you can find much better tires for. Bridgestone Dueler Revo Best winter weather tire I have ever had. Very good on all off-road surfaces except sloppy gumbo mud. Been to the Cliff's? That kind of mud.

I wish it was a whole bunch closer. I would love to get a look at in person. Looks perfect for my son and I to use for wheeling. (The wife and army of girls are starting to think camping out means, no in room HBO) Not to mention, from the pics, VERY nicely done.

Isn't that TJ shifter quite a bit longer than an MJ shifter? I know on the Puke-out it is. I helped a friend stuff a YJ Puke-out in his son's XJ and the shifter top now is right below the top of the dash. Kinda looks like an old school chopper shifter in it.

You are DAMN lucky....... That is exactly what I wanted.

where can I get woody trim from?
whowey replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Go pick it up. Down I-43 to 90 to 39 down to 80. JC Whitney is right off 39/80 in LaSalle. you live by JC Whitney, that's hot I live about an hour and 20 minutes from them. When they redid their Jeep section of their catalogs, they held a series of 'town hall' meetings with local Jeep owners. And then they promptly did nothing with the advice they got, and went back to selling cheap chinese knock off MB-CJ parts and chrome stick on stuff for the rest of the Jeep world. -
I have a block heater.... I like it alot when its -20 wind chill in the morning...
