How Much is an excellent condition 1972 Chevy C30 worth?
whowey replied to 89MJComanche's topic in The Pub
I've seen some 'funky' things with local FD auctions....... We had an M52(I think, 5 ton 6 x6), 1500 gallon wildfire tank, completely set-up for field fires with only 16000 miles, go for $600 bucks. But a 85 K5 blazer with 75k, and a ton of rust and worn out junk 350 go for $2500. Most interesting was a local department selling their 3-year old H1 grass truck, for $55k after paying $90k for it. It was WAY TOO heavy, and they were constantly stuck -
I collected them off of GreedBay. But there is a place you can order them, they were about 90 bucks or so for the main manual, that didn't include the body, component, or electrical manual.

I have the full set of FSM's and the others.... Chiltons and Haynes blow monkey butt compared to the FSM..... I do like Haynes manuals, they make wonderful coasters....

The housing for the lights probably contains the 4wd full time light also. Just no bulb, or hook-up to it. It seems like the last time I tore a dash apart all of the spots were, just no sockets.

x2.... They 'lost' a car for my boss when he used them...

I have all three pieces for my ZJ... The fit nice and work excellent. The rear will hold an almost full bottle of soda when its spilled..... The cutouts for the seat brackets and floor pans are exactly the right shape, and they don't at all. They are pretty stiff though. I had to leave mine in the house for two days near a heater vent to warm them up enough to lay flat. They were rolled up in the box, and it was the middle of winter when I got them..

idk when they stopped, but it's team members now... I'm at the burlington store, it's kinda crappy how I'm always at work or school, but the pay is OK. For a college kid, it was a GREAT job. Worked around my schedule, and pay was pretty good for being retail. During the summer being allowed to work as much as I wanted, and the instant profit sharing was definately a HUGE positive...... Extra buck an hour on Sundays, and 10% off on everything.(My dad actually yelled at me when I quit because of this)

When did Menard's stop calling you 'associates'?? Which store you stuck at???? I worked for them 15 years ago, first as a yard 'associate', then as store set-up. Lots of fun, but never home...... I met John, one time while I was yelling at my boss for not having all the pieces we needed to complete some shelving at Indy North... I was in there yesterday, did some returns out of my project leftovers, and bought a bunch of stuff for my 3 year long bathroom remodel.

First, thing. Howdy Neighbor!!!!!!!!! I'm out in lovely Ogle County. BOB(a part timer here) is right down the street from you. When you cut off the exhaust, did you remove the converter? One idea would be a plugged cat.
-
I though the emissions light was set by a timer. Like after so many hours running it would trip the emissions light. Then you have to change out the timer under the dash.. Thanks for tripping my memory...... You are correct, it is set by the maintence timer at 80k miles.... So E85 will never turn the light on. Remove the timer and no light....

Check your state laws..... In IL, you only need a single mirror capable of viewing 500 ft. behind your rig. The windshield rearview meets this requirement.

I hear ya. I just can't help but wonder and try it out. I know that my Comanche runs rich currently so if I do get around to this, I will keep an eye on the plugs and be ready for the headache. I don't know why, I am just curious about this. Joe  Your curious because its cheap and your in wisCOWsin, where corn is cheap and so are the women........ With having a renix system, I don't know if the check engine light would even come on. The system is pretty dumb by comparision, and if I remember what I was reading correctly it doesn't even set a light for emissions problems. I would probably mix to 15% first, then go to 20%, then 30% if no problems have occurred. You may find a slightly lower ratio that your junk likes, and is cheaper to run for you. Not to mention being able to give OPEC the middle finger..... Keep an extra set of plugs, and fuel filter around just in case. I doubt you will get much crud out of the fuel system though. I dropped my tank this summer to deal with a fuel pump, and the tank was just about perfectly clean inside. I have been running E10 in the truck for the 4 years I have owned it.

um...point is to save myself on shipping. I said sell plus ship the tires for $550 total. if I had to drive to milwaukee to ship them at $21 a tire, that means that I get $412 just for the tires. if I ship UPS, then at $60 per tire, I only get $250 for the tires. so you see the dilemma. anyways, doesn't matter now, he was a flake. AAAAHHHHHHHHH.......... Another wonderful experience on Craigslist.

Doing it a single time won't cause any permanent problems. But doing it repeatedly will cause issues. Your engine won't go KA-BOOM, but you will most likely have idle issues and some misfiring, you can experience this with a single tank. Your check engine light might come on, but with a Renix system you probably won't even get that much. I've used a couple of gallons of E-85 to dewater a fuel system before. But I burn E10 in all my vehicles year round. I've thought about trying a higher blend, but I haven't had the extra time or had the extra money to address any issues that crop up. If I pick up an extra Jeep I looked at, I might have to try it out.

I was born in Erie, and lived in Harborcreek for a little while.

You could always drop them off at a Fed-ex Kinko's for Fed-ex Ground shipping. If you really want to ship Greyhound, you'll end up driving into Milwaukee to the bus depot. Or UPS from a Mailboxes etc(UPS store).

Automatic Transmission Question
whowey replied to robertlb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
x2 on everything they have said. The AW-4 has a drain plug in it. 4.2 quarts Dexron II/III DO NOT USE ATF+4, Chryco recommeds it, but its the wrong fluid. Wix part number 58936 is the filter part number. -
Welcome to 15 years ago for me. Did my first 'hour of power' with Old Milwaukee, cause it was only $4.99 for a 24'er. Bad, real bad idea. The guy I did it with, 'de-flowered' my trash can immediately afterward. I waited until we were standing in Burrito Loco, about 3 hours later and a 2-ltr bottle of Purple Passion, and bunch of fru-fru drinks our dates had been drinking at the party. When I did my ONLY centurion, my girlfriend left me laying on the floor of her apartment for the rest of the evening and most of the next day. I passed out in the middle of her party, and I was WAY too large for her to move.

Ouch. Here near Minneapolis today it's $2.89 for unleaded and $2.46 for e85. Which is about the price spread we normally see .40 - .50 a gallon Usually, we see about 60 to 70 cents a gallon difference. But the station I stopped at today, is now owned by the farmer's co-op. New owners, and direct link to farmers. May be a short term price strategy, but at other stations they own the price difference is usually higher than competing stations.

It's based on the principle that the acetone will lower the vapour point or decrease surface tension of the gasoline. With a carb it might work. With a EFI engine you're going to see nothing, other than the inreased cost of the acetone. However, it will pull water and contaminantes out of your fuel system, whic might help (basically acts as injector cleaner). Would I do it? Hell no. And E85 is a joke. It takes more energy to make it than there is in it. It survives on government subsidies. Give it time, it'll go. 2 oz of acetone in a 25 gallon tank..... You aren't going to have enough volume to have any realistic effect. A good injector cleaner or de-watering agent is a much better choice at that point. If E85 remained at the technology of 10 years ago, you would be correct. But with the changes that are occuring, that's simply not true. BTW, I paid $2.12 a gallon today... Compared to the $3.37 for 87 octane. Or 37% difference......

The renix system is pretty dumb compared to the systems available today. It wouldn't be able adjust the fuel curve enough to make it efficent. But in a off-road only Jeep I can't see it making that much of a difference. For a combined use or DD Jeep, I don't see this system being able to address the issues. Chrysler says you can add E85 at any point and run the van on any combination. But from doing some googling... I have found that the most effective way to make the change is to run a tank of half petro/half E85, then switch to full E85. Supposedly it gives the computer a chance to learn the fuel burn curve of the ethanol. This is what I did, and so far it seems to be effective. BTW, another tank of E85 through the van. 18.8 MPG but I drove the van more than my wife. Our driving styles are decidedly different. I routinely see better MPG than her on every vehicle we have owned.

The only way I can see from their descriptions, and instructions would be to lengthen injector pulse. But, 15% is probably a much closer estimation of how much additional fuel is needed. A 15% longer pulse width wouldn't affect the life of the injectors significantly. Ethanol does contain o2, its the reason that it is used for an oxygenate rather than the toxic MTBE. The reason behind emissions codes is the increased oxygen level. The vehicle sees the extra o2, tries to adjust the fuel ratio. When it can't get the o2 to what it sees as an acceptable level it will set the code.

So you're going to continue to ignore that COnsumer Reports had similiar results? OK. Ignore CONsumer reports..... The bastion of good independant journalism that it is.....(where is the sarcasm button?) Any rag that publishes one report of 'safety tests' hammering an entire class of vehicles, then back away from it when they are sued by the manufacturers of the vehicles has ZERO credability. Or how about years of documented Japanese manufacturer bias???? If you remember they also hammered the Cherokee, when all of the off-road publications were picking it as the '4wd of the year'

Yup, everything in MN is at least E10. Local news station did some E85 tests this week and they were getting 39% less milage in a Durango http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article ... yid=267612 Quote from arcticle "In other words, with E85 in the car, our mileage was 39 percent worse. The result actually was worse than we expected. Consumer Reports magazine conducted a similar road test and found mileage was 27 percent worse with E85." As would be expected by a for-profit enterprise like the 'news' station performs a 'test' and has findings that makes a better story. They don't detail driving conditions, how many miles they drove using the non-85, driving styles, or any other conditions that would effect MPG. Agreed, Maybe you do have worse millage with E85, The main focus of it esp. in the US is that we're keeping it "in the family" so to say. Not only does the production give US farmers work, it lessens our dependence on foreign supplies. The price is higher because of the process used to make it today, tomorrow it will get cheaper when processes get streamlined and newer technology are developed. Take Brazil for example they're one of the worlds biggest producers of Ethanol. They make it using sugarcane. They can flip a switch and produce sugar or fuel... It all depends on what the economy calls for at the moment. The more ethanol is used the better the prices will become. I would love to see the US run independent from Arabic sources. I myself would like to see everything turn to diesel and see the cleaner burning biodiesels rule the roads. Ummm..... I think your quoting the wrong guy. Where I live Ethanol is cheaper SIGNIFICANTLY. To quote myself: Pump price today..... E10 $3.25 per gallon E85 $2.59 per gallon. Illinois does offer a per gallon tax break for ethanol purchases. But the state no longer offers tax breaks for purchasing E85 compatible vehicles. E85 will always be cheaper here. I live surrounded by several million acres of corn. Heck, I can go down to farm supply and get biodiesel delivered. If I could find a decent price on a used diesel p/u I'd be driving that. But a privately owned for-profit TV station in an area that wouldn't be pro-ethanol(due to local economics) putting out a story against it, with multiple references to the pro-ethanol governor. The TV station wants to sell ads and make a name for itself. What makes more money??? A positive story, or one that repeatedly calls the governor's decisions into question.....
