I wish I had taken a picture of my cheap OEM immitation muffler that literally was falling apart after only 4 years. I went with a Walker, but I am certain any name brand FlowMaster, Cherry Bomb would outlast the cheapy immitations. :rotf: :rotf: 4 years out of a muffler is GREAT where you aren't in sun and smog for 300+ days a year. Wet weather and road salt do a real number on them. I generally get about 2 and a half to 3 years out of one. I got a Holley Red Hots from Farm and Fleet(the other half of that partnership) for 20 bucks for my ZJ. Sounds pretty good on the 5.2. But I didnt really like the sound on the 4.0L. The tone was too flat.

Arrgh! I am going to shoot this thing.

Did you just take out the front shaft or what? Rob L. They kept the shaft intact, we drove it in 2WD for almost 3 years and no issues. I asked the Dealership why do you advertise "full time 4WD" and then tell us not to use it? Of course I got no response. In 1998 around here it rained almost every day in Spring until June 30 so we used the "full time option" a lot. Do you think maybe there could be an issue with your 4WD disconnect keeping you in 4WD without the light going on? Rob(and I) have NP 249 T-cases.... No 4wd disconnect or 2wd mode and no lights come on when the VC locks in. I think you must have had a NP242 T-case. The 249 uses a viscous coupler to lock itself in 4wd. Pretty much a crappy system as the stupid VC wears out and permantly locks itself in 4wd and you are stuck with it. -
Hahahaha... Someone grave dug a three year old post from me.... I actually found a copy of the Featherstone book at a bankruptcy sale. Its really not that great of a book. But its pics of different Jeeps. Only a couple of MJ pictures. Two of the particular fire Comanche at the beginning and a few of the Ouray Tours Comanches. But thanks.. now I have another weird idea for my Comanche. Hmmm... one of my buddies has a house account at W.S. Darley...

Rocky Road - Comanche Lift Kit
whowey replied to ScottyDog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Pat.. you are exactly right. Having helped doing two of them... They are an ENORMOUS pain in the rear to install. And even worse to remove if you need to repair anything. The first one the owner toasted a tranny and we had to basically remove the front axle to get everything out of the way to get the tranny removed. The way it worked out. It was eaiser to remove the axle on the floor then lift the rest to remove the tranny on the 2-post. I can't imagine how big of a pain it would have been without the lift. -
We have an apparatus at work that spot welds in an insert. The inserts themselves are a galvanized tin or other pretty soft alloy. They work fine where you aren't going to be needed a good amount of force on the fastners.

Rocky Road - Comanche Lift Kit

Thanks for posting a picture of that drop bracket. I wondered if it was an actual Comanche-specific brop bracket or another XJ one, where you have to hack-up the factory reinforcement. -
Rocky Road - Comanche Lift Kit

Several years ago I ordered from RRO twice. Two bad experiences were enough to convince me to NEVER do business with them again... Their quick disconnects.. certainly aren't. The square design makes them hard to line up and reattach unless you are on perfectly level ground.. Second... their customer service and order packers can't tell the difference between leaf spring bushings and control arm bushings.... Mnky.. I realize you are a RRO fanboi... but for the same money... I'd rather have the lift without the half-assed crap like brake line relocators and prop-valve risers. That mickey mouse crap belongs on cheap @$$ lifts like Rusty's or Rough Crap. -
I've only got a 10 minute drive now... But I did a hour and 20 minutes for 2 years...I payed my own fuel, tolls and car expenses. Had to own a Jap crap box to make it work... VERY glad I don't have that job anymore.....
-
I had one in a 81 Concord wagon I had in High school.... Didn't work particularly well.. but with no extra antenna on the car it was stealthy....

That's an image we needed..... :ack: A little baby powder and you would be good to go...

I wonder if the guys who keep saying you don't have room in the ZJ for three kids have actually tried it???? What are the ages of your kids??? I have 20 month old twins(in second stage car seats) an 8 year old son and a 13 year old daughter. Three will fit in the back seat of the ZJ. If two car seats are in the back of the XJ.. noone fits in the middle. Not even the 8 year old who is a skinny kid. The kids aren't thrilled about the tightness in the middle of the ZJ, but they can fit in there. And if someone considers the amount of performance parts for the 4.0l compared to the 5.2l(318).. there are even more for the 5.2L than there is for a 4.0l.

Watch out for the 42RE tranny in the early 4.0l ZJ's.. know problem tranny... And in the V-8's watch out for the NP249 full-time transfer case. VC goes bad and its a VERY expensive repair. I really like the 5.2 in my 94. When I am hauling, I can't imagine trying to do that with a 4.0l in that heavy of a vehicle.

A couple of buddies and I went to the movies last evening.. Both of them are handicapped. One has only one leg and the other has a couple of circulation disorders that make it very hard for him to walk very far. There is a wrangler on about 6 or 7 inches of lift with 40 inch tires parked in the van accessible handicapped spot sporting a windshield hanger handicap tag. There is no possible way an honestly handicapped person could have managed climbing into this cheerleader-mobile. We ended up parking about halfway down the row and unloading the guy in the wheelchair out in the middle of the drive and I parked the van. When we came out, I just pulled the van cross-ways in the parking lot and helped my buddy get his chair onto the lift. Blocked the traffic out of the theatre parking lot for 4 or 5 minutes while we got everything together.

I agree with Sam.... Even though I was a kid and had a few Transformers, the original movie was quite the let-down. The movie just never seemed to get into a flow.. and the teen girl eye candy was exceptionally weak in the acting department. To me it also seemed like it was in a big rush to get to the ending battle scenes.. that frankly weren't terribly good. The trailers I've seen for the second one make it seem more the same.. Lousy acting, bad script, a pile of special effects to get to a final battle scene.

Fixed it for you..... FBW... For BIG Wallets.....

Nice shooting Tex... You just doomed yourself to a summer full of dumpster fires, CO detectors and overheated central air units. Have fun!!!!
-
Don't believe it.... I've had mild CO posioning before... There is no mistaking that headache for anything.... 5 people couldnt figure out to open a window????? I could almost see a rusted out exhaust venting into a cab though...

Very quickly they out grow a stationary walker(kinda an oxymoron). Kids want to be able to move around... And if you get the kind with wheels...you will never walk barefoot in the house again. One smack into the back of your leg and you'll know....

How well does that FRL unit work??? I have seen them and I wondered if they can keep steady pressure or keep the water to a minimum. The price is killer compared to other ones.

Like I said in the other thread.... This really is much to do about nothing from our perspective... You are not going to find many owners of our vehicles willing to trade for a $3500-$4500 voucher on some piece of crap from Toyota,Kia or Government Motors. If you are in the market for new vehicle already, or you are in a VERY slim portion of the population that wanted to rid yourself of your old Suburban you bought when your kids were young and now want to get a Smart Car. Then you would interested. You have to remember that Congress is controlled by Socialists from the People's Demokratic Republic of Kalifornia. Now these idiots can say 'look we promoted better fuel economy. You didn't take the bait, so its not our fault gas prices are $5 a gallon'.
-
It won't affect 90% of the vehicles out there... No cash is involved... only vouchers for the purchase of a NEW vehicle. If you have an old Jeep sitting out back are you going to be that interested in turning it in on a $4500 voucher on a new Kia???? This is much to do about almost nothing... Yes there will be a few turned in.. but it will be statistically insignificant. Guys on here will have far more damage to the parts pool than this bit of nonsense does. Now if they ever pass one handing cash out then we will have far more to worry about.
-
Hot Rollers and bubbles in your Jeep collection???? You east coasters do some FUNKY things with your junk........ and no... I don't want to see the pictures.
-
I saw VERY similar stripes on a MJ the local Sears store used to own. That one had the only liftgate I have ever seen on an MJ. Sorry no pics.. didn't have a Digi back then.

Went through this last year when the first round of layoffs came at work. Everything Dave has said is EXACTLY the same as I experienced. Talk about completely turning someone off.... and BTW the 'out-the-door' price with Snap-On was a bit under $250k with a new truck.

<<<<< This guy has a few more jeeps for ya if you feel a little empty in the jeep dept... :clapping: Rob L. I tried convincing the wife I needed your Scrambler everytime I saw it on CL. But I haven't gotten a ordinance ticket at all this year... I'm trying to keep it that way. But I'm on my way to look at a ZJ tomorrow. Bad engine... but supposedly good enough to get it on the trailer.
