The autos are nice, aisin Warner aw4 they don't seem to have very many issues unless you really beat on them. You can bolt the amc904/727 if you want to, but you'd be loosing overdrive. There was a race truck posted with that install, but that was a race truck. As far as manuals goes, half way thru 1989 they switched from the weak Peugeot trans to the ax15. Both trans will work but the ax is the better option. Most people will swap in a ax when the Peugeot goes out so don't always assume what the truck has under it.

What pump did you put in there?

Bulb check, and a update. Pulled the cluster to inspect and diagnose the no temp gauge issue, it is the temp gauge, and all the spares I have are bad as well. Oh well, I'll gather the good gauges and send em off for repair soon. As for now it'll get a mechanical gauge. Also fixed a no charge issue, rear brakes, axle seals, and atm waiting for ups to bring me a fuel sender so I can reinstall the tank. They are finally starting the races slowly and Sunday is the Mopar event. If all goes well it should be there on Sunday. Gotta see if I can match pops et time of 26secs lol he ran it out of fuel. It's going to be a bit strange first year in ten years that I'm going without him.

@Pete M please move to tech You can either set up a aftermarket like painless wiring fuse block, or get one from a auto. from a salvage yard, either you are going to have to move terminals or splice the wires. If you are going to do the 97+ swap, I would swap everything

Do you still have the ballast?
