  1. What keeps that "plug" from spinning as you tighten the nut? If there is a square neck under the head of that fastener, then it's just a carriage bolt. You can find them at any hardware store. Search for chrome plated carriage bolt. They're usually longer, but you could cut to length with a dremel.
  2. Can't tell if the winch has survived: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1649677318540339/
  3. I paid $350 labor for gears/locker installation on a stripped rear axle. Then the front D30 gears were swapped with the axle still under the truck for $500 labor. $700 seems high but it's unclear if you are looking for more than just gears. You mentioned paint...? Are they cleaning up the axle shafts and replacing those bearings too?
  4. Nah, didn't think to grab it. On this trip I walked away with shackles, spring plates, bumper brackets and tailgate handle. I believe I sold the bumper brackets from this particular truck to you actually.
  5. 1986 Jeep Comanche Build date: ??? Last Seen: Pull and Save, Tucson, AZ Status: CRUSHED Notes: This ol' girl went to the crusher way back in 2017. Just recently stumbled across these pics on my phone. D35 underneath. Tail lights were busted. Tailgate had a wide concave dent across the face.
  6. Have you considered mounting a tool chest between the uprights? This style of box would still allow you to run a topper someday since it doesn't sit on the bed rails.
  7. Warrior Products make a version that fits without cutting. They make a winch and non-winch versions. https://warriorproducts.com/56054-jeep-xj-rock-crawler-front-bumper.html
  8. Truck-Lite LED with Putco harness. Stock low beam: Truck-Lite low beam:
  9. "as much as 3.x..." or "up to 3.x..." I see this language often and then my understanding starts getting muddled. In a Torsen style differential, is the torque biasing capability progressive? Or does it try to transfer the full 3.x all the time?
  10. I run a TrueTrac in front and an e-locker in the rear. I'd estimate my truck sees 70% street use and the rest has been a mix of silt, sand, gravel, mud, water crossings and slick rock. So far this setup has gotten me everywhere I've wanted to go. Maintaining good street manners was a top priority for me so ratcheting, quirky lunchbox lockers were a no-go. In 2wd (no torque to TT) with the rear locker off, the truck rides smoothly with open/open diffs. In 4wd, with the rear open and both front wheels pulling together the TT helps me feel much more in control when travelling through deep sandy washes at speed. It also helps a lot on steep, loose inclines. With the rear locker on and front TT doing work she crawls like a tank. I also like having access to 2wd locked mode which is usually the fastest and easiest way out of most slippery situations. But, but... "What about lifting wheels off the ground?" I agree with Eagle. Whenever I hear this I can't help but chuckle. Makes me wonder: 1) Who are you? 2) And, how often do you actually lift a wheel off the ground? If your answers are: 1) King of Hammers Champion 2) Or, "Frequently" Then you shouldn't even be considering an LSD, just get a locker. You'll be way happier. For everyone else, a TT will get you places. When a wheel lifts off the ground the weight transfers to the other 3 wheels. Pairing the TT with a locker is a good solution that will allow you to push/pull your way out of those scenarios.
  11. If you want to swap gears you will need the D44 Ring & Pinion gear set and a D44 Master Overhaul Kit which includes the necessary bearings and seals. Keep in mind that the D44 carrier break is at 3.73/3.92. This means that if you want to move to a gear ratio of 3.92 or higher then you will need to buy a new carrier as well. For a complete refurb, consider replacing your axle shaft bearings and seals as well. What to look for in gears? Variation in R&P pricing is mostly a marketing scam. The vast majority of R&P gears are sourced from the same, small community of global foundries. Look for US or Korean made gear sets. Avoid China. Look for a good warranty from the seller. For bearings, both SKF or KOYO are solid choices.
  12. Nice score! The *416 number on the tag is tied to 87-90 model years. There may be a build date for the axle stamped on the passenger side axle tube. When you pop off the cover you should be able to spot the six digit birth date for the R&P printed on the ring gear [XX YY ZZ].
  13. LA-->Vegas-->Zion National Park--> Grand Canyon National Park-->Monument Valley--> Albuquerque That would be a 'bucket list" route for some folks. Camp under the stars if you can. Night sky is quite a sight thanks to some of the lowest light pollution levels in the country. The vistas will stick with you for a lifetime.
  14. Thats neat! Is the box magnetic?
  15. Whst happened to those one tons?
  16. My truck gets emission tested annually. I installed this Walker CAT back in 2016. The truck passes testing just fine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000C945YQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_2mwnFb77AF99X
  17. I can't explain it to you, but Legal Zoom can: https://www.legalzoom.com/knowledge/copyright Register for $114 bucks: https://www.legalzoom.com/business/intellectual-property/copyright-registration-overview.html It is fairly straightforward to check if your desired domain name is even available: https://www.godaddy.com/domains/domain-name-search Good luck!
  18. Installing OEM cruise control was the best road trip upgrade that I've performed. It makes a long haul in these cable throttle trucks much more comfortable. Other than that, a well maintained vehicle is important. A kit bag full of spare parts is only helpful if you have the know-how (and personal interest?) to swap them out yourself. If not, then sign up for a AAA membership before you head out. Good luck! Take pics!
  19. Early style grill and Comanche badge say pre-91. And, weren't Laredo models only available 87-89?
  20. Looks good! I think a fresh set of hockey stick graphics would complement the truck well.
  21. Best part of that ad is the cardboard box. "AMERICA'S FINEST STEP BUMPER" "Made in Taiwan"
  22. I would have slipped the shaft back in and limped it home. But if you are nervous about it, you could remove the rear shaft entirely, plug the xfr case output and drive it home in 4-Hi. They sell plug kits for this purpose: https://www.jbtools.com/lisle-23400-transmission-plugs-1-to-2-180/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwl4v4BRDaARIsAFjATPk18WHhEghRfbIxcicI7xp2qzqCOTlHl-VjHg-GfjVDbQ9-uLKNfq0aAv7nEALw_wcB
