  1. Wow I didn't realize any CC members would have seen this in person. I live close to this truck and have considered going to look at it but the price is high and it hasn't changed in a long time leading me to believe it's a stubborn old guy who owns it. I'm guessing it will rot away where it sits.
  2. Nice looking truck. I really like the Wagoneer front ends. Would love to see it with wood panels all the way back. Any current pictures?
  3. Maybe in your store. A friend of mine had a fairly new (Windows 8) Toshiba notebook that he had problems with. It came from Best Buy. When he took it back to the Geek Squad, they told him the hard drive was fried and that it would be cheaper to buy a new computer than to fix the old one. So he bought a new Toshiba (Windows 8.1) -- and promptly had trouble with that one, also. I took them both, used the system recovery utility to wipe the hard drives and reset everything to the out-of-box state, then re-installed his software. I also updated the older one from Windows 8 to 8.1. I kept both of them around for a month, playing with them. Never a hiccup. The Geek Squad flat out lied to him so they could sell him another computer. His problem was just that he's not computer savvy and he had it loaded down with toolbars on top of toolbars -- many of which carried viruses or Trojans, Once the junk was cleared out, they both functioned perfectly. Wow that's crazy, I'm sorry to hear that. That's a prime example of the "blue shirt" mentality Best Buy is shoving down everyone's throats.
  4. Geek Squad is part of Best Buy yes but we are trained to do what is best for the customer. We actually never receive any sort of sales training beyond the protection plans. I do understand where you are coming from with that statement and unfortunately these days it is mostly about getting the highest dollar amount possible. Geek Squad is an exception in that as we still have morals. There is a huge culture that goes along with being an agent and part of that is what is best for the customer. Just as an example recently I had a teenager and his parents come in wanting a gaming computer. He had no idea what he wanted or really anything about them. I took him over to what we had and told him everything about the pre-built gaming desktops and also talked about building his own. He was very indecisive and his parents were extremely pushy and just kept telling him to drop $1200 on a pre-built. I instead wrote down some resources for him to go home and do some research and determine exactly what he wanted and to learn more about what he was looking for. Bottom line, I turned away a huge sale because I knew he could be much more happy with the outcome. Moral of the story, if you want real customer service and not a sales person, go to a Geek Squad agent, if you want to be sold on the most expensive item, go see a "blue shirt" as we call them. We are hugely segregated within Best Buy between the sales people and the Geek Squad agents and we, at least in my precinct, are very against the direction Best Buy is taking in many ways trying to push sales down everyone's throats. Customers will be more satisfied getting the help they truly need rather than being sold on a very expensive item when they would have been just as or more happy spending half as much. Sorry for rambling you just struck the nerve that we have developed for the way sales works these days. Anyway back on topic yes pirate Bay is an option however be careful as they do contain malware sometimes.
  5. You are gonna have a very hard time finding a key for it and an even harder time getting windows XP to work very well as it has no support at all anymore. You're best bet is to use software called Open Office. It is available online for free and works with files created by any office program (word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) I use it myself because it works flawlessly. I'm not sure how compatible with Windows XP it is anymore but it's prolly your best bet. Well.... Other than starting with a newer computer. We won't even touch XP machines at work cause they just don't work anymore really and even Vista is getting that way now. I am an Advanced Repair Agent for Geek Squad BTW. Just so everyone who sees this knows, I'd be happy to answer any computer related questions.
  6. I used computer side panels to fix the rusted out floor board in one of my XJs. Kind of opposite what you were asking.
  7. Rough Country. You couldn't pay me to run their shocks. As it is I've been waffling on even installing the track bar I have (came with the truck, new in box). Maybe their quality has improved dramatically in the last 10 years, it's not like they're actually building their own shocks, but I just avoid the entire brand. Yeah I don't know what their quality was years and years ago. I've seen nothing but criticism about RC and I couldn't believe they could be that bad. I decided to try their 3" kit on my DD cherokee that included the LCAs and full leaves and bought a steering stabilizer and adjustable Trac bar to go with it. It went on with ease and in about a year and a half it still rides very smooth and hasn't sagged at all. It comes with a lifetime warranty too so if it does sag or break. This XJ doesn't see trails but it is my workhorse on the farm so it does get flexed out, haul heavy loads and sees some rough terrain and held up well. Now I can't speak of what it would do on real trails and things since we don't have those in Iowa, but I'd be willing to guess it would hold up fairly well.
  8. I know people will disagree and have something to say but I have a set of RC N2.0 on one of my XJs and they are pretty smooth and cheap.
  9. I didn't see anyone mention this so I figured I'd let everyone know that there is an easier way than disassembling the front end if your release handle breaks off close to the lever. You can cut the rubber sleeving back on the cable and expose the cable. Hold the still sleeved part of the cable with one hand and pull the cable with pliers with the other and it will pop the hood. This will only work if it breaks within a few inches of the release lever. Did this on my friends XJ and he left it like that cause he was too cheap to buy the cable.
  10. I live near Des Moines, IA. Have a 98 2dr xj, a 90 Comanche Eliminator project, and a 2006 Commander. Need some trails around here!!! The same quarter mile trail on the property lost its fun after about the hundreth time.
  11. Pics? I need to clean mine up and want to see some results.
  12. It is up for sale.. Wish I could afford it but mine will hopefully be as nice when I'm finished with it. Anyone else wondering how the windows roll down? Noticed in the eBay pictures there is no switches or crank. Edit: Now that I look closer it appears the window switches are in the ash tray. Would look better in the normal location in my opinion.
  13. That's good you got let off light. Better play it safe for a while, it would be a shame to have to let the manche sit.
  14. Looking good. Did you get anywhere fighting that ticket?
  15. This is gonna be one nice truck. I was curious though as you mentioned locating the xj tank behind the cab and leaving it there when the bed goes back on. I tried everything I could think of to mount an xj tank under mine and with the exception of the spare tire location it seemed impossible so I opted for a Dakota tank. How do you plan on making this work?
  16. Any updates on this amazing truck in the last 2 years?

  18. In case anyone was wondering there is a diesel MJ for sale on the des moines Iowa Craigslist. It's rusty and is asking too much but it's been on there a year and he responded to me about it about 2 months ago so it's still there and he may come down in price if you try. I had a better MJ fall in my lap so I passed it up, never got to go see it so don't know much about it.
  19. Oh wow, at least you figured out the problem. Glad to see this isn't a completely dead project. Can't wait to see more. Currently doing the rear wiring in my 90-98 Eliminator. Wish I had the equipment, time, and money to do a full tear down like yours.
  20. Any progress on this build since March?
  21. Yeah I'm not too concerned about the venting and I'd like to keep my back panel as I have a very clean gray panel for it. I won't be running any speakers in that area in the rear and it looks as though there is quite a bit of room in there, I'm trying to come up with some way to create a chamber that can hold stuff and not get lost down in the body. Obviously the best course of action is to weld or tack sheet metal in there but I don't have a welder and my house's electrical probably wouldn't take one.
  22. OK yeah I was afraid they were one piece and I didn't even realize they were for speakers (truck was gutted when I got it). Has anyone seen these turned into compartments instead? Obviously space is limited in the MJ and I'm more concerned about having room for tools than I am about speakers. Also any ideas where I could find a square grille that size? I haven't ever seen any square speaker grilles anywhere close to that size before.
  23. I'm doing a 97+ swap on my 90 Eliminator. When I bought the truck the interior B-pillar trim was missing the vents at the bottom. I have been searching everywhere and can only find the whole B-pillar trim for sale anywhere or even really find them because the search terms conflict with other things. My question is does anyone know where I can find just the vents or options that would work as a replacement. I wouldn't mind making this a small "cubbie hole" either so any ideas are welcomed!
  24. I do have one fairly close I think that's what I'll do. Thanks. How's the fuel cell working out? I'm going to try the Dakota tank out but worst case scenario I'm going to end up with a fuel cell. By the way I really don't like Chrome but wow does that look awesome on your truck.
  25. A little of both. I ran mostly new wires to the back and reused connectors as needed. Running new wires is what I figured would be easiest. I've been pondering what to do about it for a few days.
