as part of the LPG conversion to my MJ, i came across this situation: for some reason it won't`start directly on LPG (i`m pretty sure it`s the reducer`s fault) but if i start it on gasoline for a few seconds then switch to LPG, it starts... runs rough since i haven`t advanced the ignition but that`s normal... but if i don`t switch to LPG and just let the engine on with the fuel pump OFF... it keeps running, for like a minute or so as long as it idles it keeps running, it stalls if i try to rev it up... is it possible that the fuel system is "sucking" gasoline with the fuel pump off? i mean there`s the pressure regulator conected to the fuel line direclty (the small plastic thing that disconects them when it`s off was broken so i therw it away and joined the 2 lines)? too bad the renix 4.0 doesn`t lend itself to run on LPG, at least not easy as other less awesome engines...

did you get the rear axle too? just in case the rear and front gear ratios don`t match... althought both come from 4.0+manual vehicles so they must be 3.07... -
Too bad J10s or J20s are rare where i live... ther only way would be to butcher a wagoneer...

we all agree that the 4.0 is one beast of an engine, too bad is no longer made, ever since i got my comanche i have been studying it and still can`t find the secret of its power, it delivers more HPs than similar engines like the Ford 300 which ironicly has more cc or the slant 6 that never was considered powerful, reliable and tough yes, but not powerful... anyway, my 88 renix 4.0 is working fine and still has some life ahead but now my goal is to build a frankestein of a 4.0, with the best parts available and in order to do that i need your advise, because many heads think better than one, based on your experience, what are the parts i mus look for? - engine block = i have read that 95+ are stronger - engine head = do any HO will do or is there a special one? etc... note: i come across a lot of junked/wrecked XJs i just need to know which ones to crack open also if it was up to you to bring back the 4.0, what would you change/add to improve it?

internal problem with the AW4, either a clutch pack or band...

Interesting, will this prevent oil from coming out?

forget about that system, my friend liked it so i let him have it, now i got another LPG system, this one is complete, except for a few hoses that are a little old, everything seems to be working, so i get back to my original question: does the renix will work "out fo the box"? i mean with LPG it`s only job of the ECU will be the ignition, if the ECU thinks it`s running on gasoline, it will send the right signal to the ignition coil right?

emissions and all, everything is vacuum operated, many places where a leak can make you go crazy diagnosing a problem...
-
i trashed mine, currently runs with no filter... stupid oily box
-
vacuum leaks are a common problem in these engines, why so many hoses? what were they thinking...

backfiring almost always means valve timing is off, recheck distribuitor and timing chain as the previous poster says... -
