The infamous steering box crack
RustyRodder replied to RustyRodder's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is the CRok better than the Rustys one I was going to pick up? I only bring up cutting because they use that as an option in the instructions. -
Well, I found my truck has the steering box crack while replacing the radiator- the top mounting bolt, about 2" long so far. I am looking at the frame plates, and have a couple questions for anyone thats done them- First, do I have to cut the front off them to use with the stock bumper? it says experience may vary, but I figure somebody out there has done it already with factory bumper/mounting brackets. Second, Do I need to worry unbolting the radiator support brackets with everything still attached?

86 MJ that's shockingly still for sale

I remember he started at 2500 a while ago. -
Blinker could just be a bad ground/bad socket, and easy fix. Mine was an incorrect bulb in the rear that caused the right signal not to work with the lights on.

What are these wires?
RustyRodder replied to RustyRodder's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I will check the wires- I keep the truck at my parents, so its not right outside sadly. But since it starts, I would guess yes to the CPS bypass. -
What are these wires?

as far as I know, no. Should note, truck starts and runs fine (or as fine as a renix does) -
Working on replacing rotted loom and tidying up, i found these 2 wires off the C101. Are they supposed to connect somewhere? I couldnt find another end. But apparently this section also holds my electrical short, so theres that.

I stand by a Honda- My go-to is an Accord. They don't give up much mpg over a civic, but way more room, comfort, and features. Mine with snow tires never had a problem with upstate NY winters. Currently have a 2014, before that was a 2003, and before that a 94. love the 2014- 280hp and I get 36 on the highway. Otherwise, a CR-V wouldnt be a bad choice. Passport is also good, but its the same as a Isuzu Rodeo- and the 98-02 models had a massive recall due to rust issues underneath.

Maybe, but no other ones are my first car!

Been working on my first car. I forgot how much i like it. My ex was surprised when I told her the jeep would go before it.

I have my open cooling 85% done, but I can't drive the Jeep indefinitely due to the bigass crack in the frame by the steering box How did that happenw ith stock tires??
-
Started my open cooling setup- truck wasnt going over 160 unless sitting, then it goes up to 175 and stabilizes/declines. Expected a stuck open thermostat, but nope (maybe its a 160).

Looking for a XJ/MJ Bull bar (push bar). Not the full width bar, the one that does the grill area only.

Use the one off your MJ, and grind down the rod to have a flat portion. -
I used that same kit- I'm curious if it makes a difference now!

88 "Parts" truck - Concord, NH $700
RustyRodder replied to NHMJXJ's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I was trying to figure out if it was that or a plow -
This is our cheap Jeep! it cost 6500. The transmission (which could have been replaced with a perfectly fine AX15 for under 500) cost us 2500! Lucky, we are getting a free suspension and tire upgrade! Total cost:9k. What a cheap Jeep!

Finally did the wiper bushings, and ran the REM wire into the cab. Then found that I have a coolant leak that goes onto the evap canister, and for some reason it really doesnt go over 165 when driving. Wonder if the CTS is bad.
