  1. A little voice in my head tells me those yellow rally-style stone guards on the black jeep above don't do much good... they're a little short for the rig but would look right on a Subaru.
  2. One note about the a glass jar: be sure to secure it to something with at least zip ties- you don't want it clunking around the engine. Glass shrapnel and collected oil everywhere is not fun to clean up. After my first one broke from it not being well secured and exposure to heat [it was a slender olive-type jar], I went with a canning/mason jar... they're more durable, and the lid is easier in which to put holes. Now, before anyone goes off about me putting a glass jar in the engine compartment, it was originally intended to be a temporary solution until something better was done... its just that the 'something better' never got around to happening.
  3. I used this on my old 93 Accord when I put a short cold air intake on it; I'd get a bit of oil being drawn in. It only caught 1/4" of oil in the can every oil change (it was a modified small canning jar... real high tech, I know). Without the can, oil would be drawn into the engine or drain down into the cone filter and drip on the inner fender, so it served its purpose.
  4. I too picked up a HF kit to do mine. As stated above, oil the screw of the press, use a spacer to keep the reinstallation joints square, and watch the youtube videos. Use something solid for a spacer- you'll be putting a LOT of pressure on them to get them in or press them out. A tap or two from an engineer's hammer after you have the press cranked down helps to pop them out.
  5. I had a 235/70/16 under the bed and the extra tension it took to keep it up due to the additional weight destroyed the bushing on the hook at the end of the cable that goes through the hole in the wheel to keep it up. I now have the compact spare back underneath.
  6. Our Escape came with wranglers as OEM equipment and lasted 65k miles. We currently have the goodyear wrangler silent armors on it and just love them.
  7. $4.09/g for 87 on last fill up of the Ford.

    Stupid prius

    Monterey CA? Where's the Bentley?
  11. A winged Chinook...
  12. Those 240s were upscale yuppiemobiles in the 80s. I've owned 3 of them [86, 89, 90- 2 wagons and 1 sedan] and they're tough as nails and easy to work on. Make great sleepers too with a v8 conversion.

    Oil change

Seen the oil prices at auto parts stores lately [$6/qt]? Its cheaper [and faster] to go to an oil change place to get it done, even if you bring your own filter.
  14. After lifting the rear of my rig 2.5" I got OEM driveshaft vibration whilst everything else is as it should be, including u-joints.
  15. ^^ good info. I'll be checking it out this weekend.
  16. While the dead horse of Motion has been brought up, does anyone know by whom their house-branded shocks were manufactured?
  17. Aha! that's the exact thread I was looking for. Thanks!
  18. I read on here many many moons ago about tightening the steering box, but cannot find the thread. My steering is about as crisp as a marshmallow edge despite recent ball joints and tie rod ends replacement this year. Can anyone point me in the right direction or throw out some easy-to-follow instructions for doing it without removing the box from the truck?
  19. Must be a regional name preference- like the soda/pop/coke thing. I've frequently heard them called 'canopy' around here; 'topper' and 'camper shell' is a tie for distant 2nd.
  20. Do some research on the FF... AWD V12. Ferrari has courses in snow/ice in Italy during the winter with a fleet of the cars. And yes, they're $300k+. Regarding Ferraris, you have to pay to play- a 15k mile service will run you $5k-$15k which includes a timing belt and other necessary items. Depending upon model the engine will have to be removed, usually the pre-F355 models. $1k oil changes are not out of the norm for any model, whether its 40 years or 4 months old. Now regarding the original statement of a Comanche being more popular than a Ferrari [any model], even a Mondial or 412 would garner more attention pretty much anywhere in the world should the two be presented side by side. Ferrari isn't the most desired auto brand in the world for no reason. Remember, they're both [Ferrari, Chrysler (and Jeep)] are now owned by the same parent company, Fiat.

    oh crap !!!!

No point in crying wolf- none of us have a crystal ball to see the future if this will or will not be an item of potential recall. It may be a non-issue, your concern.
  22. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little when I saw the above image... kind of defeats the purpose of being a truck to lower it like that. To each their own personal hell, I suppose.
  23. Grab the 2.5 coolant overflow bottle caps- nobody make a replacement. In fact, I need one since mine cracked and I can't find another.
