Wow, that's kinda cool, a sure improvement on an old Volvo. If its an AX15 go back and get it!

I'm glad it worked out for you... As to my Christmas tree analogy, I misspoke, a real wood Christmas tree will go up in about 5 seconds or less depending on the water saturation, and soon after a flashpoint (where nearby furniture and walls will get hot enough to immediately ignite) will occur in less than a minute or so. A vehicle will be a bit slower, but once flames fully engulf the engine compartment or interior, then it will only be seconds till a flashpoint occurs and everything burns immediately. Your chance to put out a vehicle fire is in the first few precious seconds. If you can't extinguish it out right away, then its best to just get away from the vehicle.

I don't pretend to be a fire suppression expert. I did a brief stint as a volunteer fireman. It was enlightening, but that wasn't my wake up call to fire readiness. My experience with fire and vehicles comes from three years in Iraq and I saw several combat vehicles, HMMWVs and Bradleys burn to the ground. Yes, armor and steel melts and it will burn like tinder when hot enough. I've seen armored vehicles burnt to remnants of the chassis.....every element and material created by God and put on this planet will burn. Once a fire starts, it doesn't take long to engulf a vehicle. Most street driven vehicles on the road today will go up almost as quickly as a Christmas tree, about 60 seconds or less! I'm telling you guys the best way to fight a fire is to install a race (nascar) style fire suppression system to allow you to escape the cabin. Your priority should be survival, not to save the vehicle from fire. At the first hint of a fire. Get away from the vehicle! This was one of my HMMWVs in 2005. This one struck a double stacked anti-tank mine and went up fast (Russian TM-57s),,,,and a street driven vehicle on the road today would go up in flames even faster.

Lost track of this thread somehow. I would have driven up there and done it for the price of parts. We also have a guy in our local club that's a 12 year ASE mechanic, does gear installs, just about anything.

Here's what I did to my 5.9 plenum, basically the same thing as Terra but its tig welded to the intake. But even a severe plenum leak usually won't cause all that at one time. The excess oil being sucked into the intake could foul plugs but its unlikely they'd all crap out at once. If there's oil visable through your TB, then you need to replace the plenum gasket, but while you've got the intake off you might as well replace the steel plate with aluminum that's either bolted or welded on. It will last much longer than a new gasket with a steel plate on the aluminum intake. The problem is the two metals expand and contract at different temperatures that's why people go with aluminum plates. But check all the normal stuff, plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor first.

I go back and forward with it. It looks like a cheap knock off a sorry excuse for a 4x4 lrover evoke on one day, and the next I'm giving it the benefit of doubt that it will live up to its namesake in time. It probably won't though. XJs are by far the best bang for your buck 4x4 today, and probably will be for the next 10 years. This may honor its namesake if it's got the Quadra-Drive II system and the pentastar or a nice VM diesel and Rubicon locking diffs,,,,Otherwise, it'll be a 4x4 laughing stock in the Jeep community like an oversized Patriot. I'm sure the engineers weren't oblivious to that fact. Yes it's ugly but our judgements should be reigned in until we get a road test.

If you want to go electric, read through M38Mike's build. He converted a flat fender to E power. http://www.rockymountains.net/~m38mike/electrowillys.html

Officially Unofficial "cool Facts & Info" Thread

When I worked with the Brits, I never could stomach beans for breakfast or mayo on chips (french fries) and everything else that wasn't a bean, but they were equally disgusted by my mass consumption of salsa and jalapenos. Their idea of hot sauce is humorous, but my idea of hot sauce would be deadly to the average Brit. BTW, don't call a Welshman, or an Englishman, or a Scot a Brit. Damn sure don't call call an Irishman a Brit. -
It would be better if the grille wasn't integrated with the hood.

More like why you need a rear winch.

I think overall it will come out nice. These pics aren't the most flattering. People hated the XJ when it came out, time will tell with this one. Thank the CAFE standards for headlights but clearly they just don't look "Jeep" enough.

Never mind the horrible exterior styling. They missed the mark with the interior also. They got it right with the new Grand Cherokees, IMO there's not a luxury car that even comes close to the simple elegance of Grand's interior styling, Lexus, Rolls, no one. Now they're going for the angular look, I don't like it as much. and the headlights....

Its too darn cold in KY to be considered part of the South.

Wife's MJ

I've had a few of the the plastic caps start leaking. Usually starts small. I always crimp the metal tabs a bit tighter every time I have one out of the vehicle just for piece of mind.- 897 replies

Looks like a Belleview winch that was made from 1959-1973. http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/oldwarn.php This is one of the first electric winches that phased out the older PTO driven styles. Essentially, they put a starter motor on a set of gears to drive it. edit, I bet you can take the motor off and a good starter or alternator shop should be able to rebuild it. The rest of the winch shouldn't be too complicated to take apart and clean or repair.

Got the girl one of these. Maybe not the same brand but looks just like it. Its a light and taser. I think any taser is impractical, the best thing about it is the clicking noise and sparks it creates would be a good deterrent. I think if you're justified tasing an assailant, you're justified in shooting them before they get close enough where you have to touch them with a taser. Just haven't had time to train her with a gun yet.

Renix alternators are kind of a pain, best to remove the airbox to access the bottom adjuster bolts and the rear bolts. A stubby 13mm ratchet wrench pays off here.

A couple of guys have painted their jeeps in our local club with this stuff. It actually looks pretty good. Just wondering what your thoughts are on it. https://www.dipyourcar.com/home.php

I've had a several low offers, and a couple high offers and one "name your price" offer and the guy meant it. I always tell myself I'd take a decent offer, but then thoughts start running through my head about one day stumbling onto it smashed up in JY. This is the only Jeep I've gotten attached to, normally I can break up pretty easily with them.

Yes sir dat's it. A hub puller is required equipment for old cars.

I've driven my 5.9 ZJ to both local dealerships asking if they'd go pinks for a 2013 Overland Hemi GC....haven't had any takers yet. Wimps! Edit:,,,btw, I think Jeep Speed is way cooler than crawling.

Okay, here's my entry and its an easy one. Name this tool....BTW, it is of no use on an MJ and I wouldn't sell it for less than $1,000 because its worth far more than the $50 I paid for it.
