    Off roading

Dude, you need swaybar disconnects like a fat kid needs cake. Home brew or purchased.
  2. Sure sounds a lot better than the $700 truck in Independence. Had that guy send me pictures. Rough and beat, rusted and crusted, with no back window. Thought about going over with $400 to try and buy it, but decided against it due to time and space constraints. I can't even keep up with my two Jeeps.
  3. I have noticed a drop in fuel economy in my wife's Camry and my TJ when running gas vs. E10. Her Camry usually gets 30.5mpg highway on gas; throw E10 in the tank and it will only get 27mpg. My TJ is every worse. I mange 14mpg highway on gas and 10-11mpg on E10. I don't know much about the specifications on either fuel, just my personal results.
  4. One more trick up your sleeve, what could it be...... :???: I think your truck is going to look amazing painted in that green
  5. Used an Ipad 1 and 2 for the first time this weekend (family friends had them). Sure, surfing the net was cool, but I could not see them being used for much more. Now if those types of things were more like a tablet PC and could run real software I would buy one to replace my 7 year old lap top. Till then, I'll keep old trusty around. The Willys will gain value. The electronic gizmo will be worthless in a year.
  6. Its so, green! Looks like it is coming together very nicely, even though I don't like bright green paint. This truck will certainly be a one of a kind and stand out in the crowd. When all is said and done, could you guys do an approximate cost of the truck? As if a customer walked into your store with their truck and asked you guys to do all of the same work? I feel as if that number would be astronomical.
  7. That is too bad. What style of Comp Cam was in there? I am just curious. You might want to check out jeepstrokers. That looks like excessive carbon build up for sure.
  8. too bad we're driving MJs :D :thwak: Its what I MEAN not what I say :rotf:
  9. The 8 slot is always the best looking grill on an XJ, no matter how it is painted or plated.
  10. I have zero tolerance for drunk drivers. There is absolutely no excuse for it. Here in KS they are cracking down on drunk drivers. Now after your first offense a breathalizer interlock device will be installed in your car after being released from jail. If anybody buys that XJ, I will donate the A/B pillar, rear quarter, rear door and roof line if needed. I don't have a use for these parts.
  11. Wow, that is a nasty break. Hopefully Ten Factory will take care of you. I don't think I have commented before on your build, but your truck is very nice  Did you get a 1310-1330 U-joint for the stock front drive shaft or get a custom built shaft to connect to the Rubi44?
  12. Those motor mounts look fantastic, like they were meant to be there. Nice work
  13. Looking good. I like the idea of a CC sticker on this truck, even if after the UA I have one question about the current set up. It doesn't look the like rear drive shaft slip joint has much room to compress, maybe a 1/2"? Although it was hard to tell how the suspension was sitting when that shot was taken.
  14. The dash pad around the cluster is part of the main dash frame.
  15. This motor does not have the 0331 head. I realized asking exhaust questions would result in a lot of opinions. That is why I was more curious about exhaust designs, particularly the header. Thanks to all for the input.
  16. To pull my dash out nearly complete, I did the following: - Disconnect battery - Remove plastic Bezels and covers from dash - Disconnect steering column harness, drop and pull out steering column - Disconnect Dash harness at the firewall, the plug is held together with a 10mm bolt, and any door/kick panel feeds - Disconnect/Remove TCU - Trace and unplug HVAC vacuum lines - Loosen but do not remove the 15mm support bolts at each A-pillar - Remove the 10mm bolts along windshield and start to rotate the dash away from the firewall - Disconnect vent plumbing and any other plugs you may have missed - Remove the two 15mm bolts you loosened up, beware the dash is heavy and will fall to the ground - Pull dash out and stick the bezels back on
  17. Right. But then we would be stuck with a WK. Which, in my opinion, is the most hideous Grand out there.
  18. If they offered that State side at that price, my wife and I would be signing the papers yesterday. Yup, it would be a great replacement for her Camry.
  19. Thank you for the insightful information. I am certainly not trying to build a high performance power house, I just want to realize all possible gains from the engine work I am going to get done. Plus I need to replace the system anyways, might as well upgrade! Can you explain why a 6-2-1 header would not breathe as well as a 6-1? I am not doubting it, but I'd like to know why. Possibly the extra turns in the pipe routing? When pulling the MJ and XJ stock exhaust systems, I noticed the down pipe was crushed right behind where it mounts to the stock manifold. Initially I thougt this crushed piece was damaged by somebody bottoming out the front end, but it was the same on both Jeeps. What might the purpose of this be?
  20. Question is in regards to my LWB truck that will have a tuned up 4.0 (bored, decked, cammed) on OBDii (99XJ conversion). When I assemble the truck I will be replacing the exhaust system because mine is rotted and the exhaust manifold is cracked. What type of header works best with a mildly built 4.0? My only experience with a 4.0 header is with a Banks unit installed on my buddies TJ. I think he has the whole Banks system on his rig; I think its too loud for a DD even though it doesn't drone like so many others. When replacing the header, should I maintain the stock one piece design, or should I switch over to the two piece design? I am not too concerned with the header cracking as any good one will have a lifetime warranty. Will the two piece header design work with a 99 intake/head? I know this would require the newer style down pipe (with pre cats) and would probably require relocating the O2 sensor on the down pipe where the two header outlets converge to one. Or is there any body who sells a 2 to 1 down pipe for the XJ/TJ without the pre cats? Then onto the rest of the system. I will be retaining the cat. My intention is to reuse the 99's cat. The next piece of the puzzle is the muffler. I am NOT wanting to know what you are running truck and how much you like it on an otherwise stock exhaust. I did read through JeepComj's thread about his muffler selection. From that thread it seems like a 2.5 in/out OEM style would be the best bet. In Jeepco's thread Don mentioned something about inherent drone due to header designs for a 4.0 and that dual exhaust greatly reduced it. I want to run a single pipe out the back with the same routing as the stock system. My goal? A complete exhaust system that will complement my motor, maintain the emissions equipment and not be very loud. It will be my daily driver.
  21. Before you spend any money on that thing, make sure the title comes back clear. Would hate to find out it was stolen and loose it after fixing it up. I believe the cafe name comes from groups of city slickers dangerously racing on public streets from coffee shop to coffee shop.
  22. Did you take the XJ up Poughkeepsie?
  23. For a cheap upgrade, you can use the Sylvania Silver Star headlights. They are a direct fit sealed beam with really good light output. You can get them at any auto parts store for about $25 a piece. A better upgrade is to an H4 housing. This allows you to simply replace the bulbs, not the whole unit. The Hella E Code and IPF housings are popular. Upgrading the headlight wiring harness will also boost light output. Searching online should yeild several results. Remember, the XJ is identical to the MJ as far as headlights go so anything for an XJ will work on the MJ.
  24. Geeze, your cost of living is outrageous. I rented a 1bedroom condo in Vail for less than that. No worries about getting shot, just getting hit by a road raged tourist in their 'benze. I can't speak about the job market out there now as it was just beginning to crash when I left. Maybe Jim will hire you to wash and wax all of his MJs :hmm:
  25. It almost feels like a surreal experience when dealing with somebody who know what they are doing.
