  1. The 99 hood should fit right in place.
  2. 91/92 HO? Truck seems straight, not a gem but better than a lot. Would make a great DD I think.
  3. I can't believe that list hasn't changed in the last 10years. I remember reading that when I first started (legally) driving, which was a YJ. Geeze, showing how young I am here. When my father and I see other Jeeps, we still jokingly 'rate' them, loosely based on that point system.
  4. Dang, I would be upset too. However, I have only heard positive tings about Hesco. I have been thinking about purchasing some of their parts for my 4.0 rebuild. Subscribed so I can follow this thread.
  5. Once the shop is done.... its going inside, right? You know, to finish it
  6. Warn is currently offering an $80 rebate on most of their winches, ending sometime in June I think. You can find the list for qualifying winches and forms on their website.
  7. I thought a bad day fishing was better than a good day at work
  8. It was probably years of dirt and grease being broke free :rotf:
  9. They were introduced 3 weeks ago :brows: I was all set to buy the M8000, then this new thing came out
  10. I can try to get that info for you. Like I said, this info was given to me via a non-MJ guy on a non-Jeep forum. Based on the shadows inside the cab, I imagine the roof is solid.
  11. It is a value winch. I think it has a slightly different motor and solenoid pack. Typically value winches are slower and create more amp pull from the battery than their higher end brothers. I opted for the warn value winch because I know I will not be using it everyday, more like a few times through out the year. It carries the same warranty as other warn winches too.
  12. Hope you get a jack for the big day! I love getting tools as gifts.
  13. I purchased the VR8000 for my MJ. I choose the 8000# winch because I need it to fit behind the cross member in front of the harmonic balancer for a hidden winch. The MJ is also light weight and will primarily be my DD. Not to mention Warn quality at a value price. I have a SuperWinch EPi 9.5 on my TJ and have only used it on the trail a handful of times. If you ever think the load will be too much for your winch, pull out the snatch block and double up the pulling capability. Why somebody wouldn't have this in their trail bag is beyond me.
  14. If you do rebuild, pay special attention to the piston selection. In my searching I have not found a replacement piston for the 4.0 that has the same 13.1cc dish volume as stock. Most are around 18.5cc. Sealed Power is the closest I have found at 16cc dish volume. You can get stock oversize pistons from the dealer, but they wanted $150 A PIECE! If you get too much dish volume on a stock motor, you will reduce compression and ultimately power. If you want a 4.0, don't rebuild your transmission.
  15. I suspect you will take the MJ down a no maintenance road to a desolate location along your favorite lake/river/pond. Enjoy! Oh yeah, happy birthday. :D
  16. On another (non-Jeep) forum I frequent, a user posted an MJ he found in the yard this past weekend at Harrys U Pull it in Hazleton, PA. All he could tell me was it is a 4.0, Automatic. Just passing the word along to those of you who might be in the area. Looks like it has a rear slider and tail lights.
  17. I've got to disagree. Not that the flames are 'retarded', but that flames are way over used these days. I hardly ever see a vehicle with flames painted on it anymore. The growing trend these days seems to be obnoxiously bright color(s) on the car with no sense of graphic design aesthetic.
  18. :rotfl2: I received new bushings for my old RE arms 3 times. After each replacement they were shot witin a couple of months. Yeah, RE had decent customer service that did not hesitate to send me replacement bushings. The only RE parts left on my TJ from a VERY complete kit is the coils, bump stops and front trackbar. Everything else broke or wore out too quickly. From that experience, I hope 4 wheel parts does good to the RE name. I don't see how they could hurt them anymore, unless it is with worthless customer service. I did not know 4 wheel parts owned JU. I used to browse the classifieds over there long ago. Recently went browsing and noticed very little activity.
  19. I would bet it is the bushings. If the linkage is getting bound up at all the motor will strain. I changed the bushings on my folks 93 XJ and it made a world of difference in how the wipers function. Its been awhile since I have done them so I can't recall the part number or type of grease/lube I used on them.
  20. I can't comment much on 4 Wheel Parts, just all of the reviews about them. I did order my VR8000 through them as they offered free shipping and the same price as other Warn dealers. I placed the order and had the winch in 10days. Can't complain since shipping was free. It will be interesting to see what happens to RE.
  21. Put in a new cam. Use the two used cams as paper weights to keep the shop manuals open. Keep the dynamic compression ratio under 8:1 to stay on pump gas. The DCR takes in account the timing of the valves as well as stroke and bore. Jeep Strokers has a great calculator for this. Keep the DCR in check and don't go with too much lift. I have selected the CompCam 321 for my 4.0 build, not a stroker. It should give me more punch and a stronger power band across the board, with a bulk of the power in the mid range, where a DD needs it. This cam may be too aggressive in a pure stock motor, but should work well with my set up which will be bored and decked.
  22. What was your final verdict on paint color? Your truck will look like a million bucks wrapped with a shiny coat of paint, no matter the color.
  23. I can't say I ever saw an MJ during my short visit to Alaska. Someday though, as I plan to drive mine to Denali...someday.
  24. Thank you! The detail isn't just for your viewing pleasure.... it's so I can remember what I did  Thanks. Most of the build has taken place in an old decrepit dirt floor barn :ack:

    jeep jokes

I dunno, its 5/8" or 14mm depending on the 4.0 :smart: I have actually never had such a long experience changing the Jeep's oil. Now the wifes Camry....that car ruins me.
