If those came out of the same XJ, then I would go back and get all the brackets, crossmember, linkages and driveshaft from the same XJ. Might get the clutch master cylinder as well. Early CJ 304cid pilot bushing. -

Throttle body vacuum ports

Actually, it is a test port. It's designed to "test" Jeep owners to see if the'yre paying attention to what is going on with their vehicle. Not really, It's "blind", meaning the hole doesn't go all the way through. I put a small screw in mine because...... :dunno: -
If I ever found a RHD in a JY and the price was fair, I'd consider it. I think I've threw just about every other major common mod at my 87, why not RHD.

Header by itself, no. Add a bunch of money for the rest of the upgrade parts, more power some. Swap in a stock 4.0

Maybe try this, although I posted this for the gas gauge, the same principle applies. Quote, previous post, from me: " I had these same kind of problems with my cluster swap. I pulled the cluster back out. Then clearanced the plug openings (female side) with an x-Acto knife so that the male plug would "click" into place easier. Before I reconnected the plugs, I took a sharp object and pulled up on the electrical contacts (male side) to increase contact pressure. Actually my problem was with the gas gauge, after I did this I reinstalled it, no problems."

I'm kind of thinking the valve seals are bad on the 87. The engine runs and idles fine, if I rap it, it smokes, valve seals? Odometer says 140k.

:hijack: Pete, I like the way you mounted your spare shafts. Are D-35 axle shafts interchangable left to right? Still got the D-35 under the 88, somewhere in the back of my mind I keep fearing a broke shaft, so that looks like a good idea.

I used generic aftermarket perches. The number for the flange is: Spicer Part Number 2-2-1379 You can special order from many parts parts stores, cost +/- $40 plus shipping. don't forget to get a new pinion nut. I'm probably going to use the Explorer spring plates, after I cut the shock mounts off to use on my 87. They (spring plates) have the correct centers for the U-bolts.

Thanks Pete, think I'll chew on that for a while.

I've seen a few pics of shocks mounted at an angle, is it preferable that I do this now, (mount at an angle) rather than trying to fight a setup that is less than ideal, (stock shocks with stock shock layout)? Got pics, or anybody else got pics, or links to their pics,of this setup?

Plan on buying another set in a few days, this time 31-10.5-15s. these will go on the 88. haven't had a chance to run the other set (33-12.5-15s on the 87) as the 87 is a long work in progress. I haven't decided on tread profile yet.

Just didn't want to crawl around in the mud yet. I was hoping someone who did the same swap would have had part #s or lengths.

Uppers-stock. Lowers-welded to the axle.(horizontal centerline)

anybody :dunno:?

The weather is starting to get a little warmer here. (almost 50 today). As soon as the mud dries a little more I'm going to start putting the 87 together. I have the 8.8 under it, spring perches tacked on. I have to figure out where my brake line and shock mounts are going to go then I'll pull it all back out and weld it up. The axle is SOA with stock MJ leafs, I think I might throw the exploder main leaf into the pack for a little extra capacity. Shocks mounted level with the axle center line (horizontal center line) mounts welded to the tubes. My question is will I be able to use my stock length shocks, or should I order longer ones, with some amount of lift over stock? Reason I can't just go out and measure is I'd need to try and flex it up some, and I really don't think my floor jack works very well being dragged around through the mud. The other reason is I'd like to buy the shocks, have them on hand for when I'm ready to go. BTW all other issues have been dealt with and are good to go, IE: pinion angle, yoke, DS length, brake lines, etc.

what's your take on antilock breaks?

Chalk up another to the insurance industry, I'm surprised we aren't wearing crash helmets in our cars yet. :rotf: -

I like the brains of my vehicle behind the wheel where they belong. Don't really care for "smart" cars either, too much techno. It's already to the point that big brother can download the computer in your "smart" car use it against you. No thank you, I'll keep my non talking, non thinking MJ any day. I know the MJ has a computer but I'm sure you all know what I mean.
