I agree on the cost of a welder and such, my reason for buying their products (SWB sliders and r/bumper) was that I live out in the boonies, nearest steel supplier is 100+ miles in any direction. Besides sometimes my time is VERY important to me and I'd prefer to buy a tailor made product. BTW, I have two welders, 110V MIG and 220V Mig. Could have welded something up, but as usual the one thing I'm ALWAYS short of is time and time is the one thing that is hard to buy (depending on your perspective).

Poll: Does your MJ have the original rear bumper?
64 Cheyenne replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
It had to have one from leaving the factory. That plate light was on some MJ's from factory hidden up there... Rob L. My 87 Sportruck DIDNT have one from the factory. It had the light mounted to the bed under the tailgate with factory connectors. The Cherokee bumper is this trucks first bumper ever. The original owner made absolutely no modifications to this truck. Wasn't there a time when, if you didn't order your new truck with a rear bumper package, all you got was a plate light/mount? I remember seeing a lot of trucks running around without rear bumpers. Think it had something to do with truck impact safety standards, or lack of having to meet the standard because the vehicle was a truck? -

Which would you start with?(update)

Kind of limited on the info, but if I was to take a guess, this is what I would do. Remove, inspect, rebuild front DS. Drive it without the DS installed, no noise, problem found. Actually sounds like the front double cardan joint wants attention (rebuilt). Not hard to do, plenty of online help. -
VERY public apology to you jimoshel. I got lost in the Quote:Quote:Quote. My MOST HUMBLE appoligy to you jimoshel. Very sorry.

Gathering parts for another AX-15 conversion. I'm needing a 27 spline slip yoke out of an XJ or whatever that had AX-15/231 combo. I'm not sure if it matters whether it was 2 or 4wd,I don't think it does, long as it is a 27 spline.

Are you talking about the allen screw on the linkage side of the TB? what is the proper procedure for that? I have messed with it a little bit, backed the screw out, didn't seem to change anything. :dunno: -
Thanks much, that's some good usable info.

How should I store my mounted tires to prevent dry rot or deterioration? These tires are new, never ran, not on the truck. I guess I'm asking mainly for future reference. The 33s that I have for the 87 have been sitting in the shed for about a year and a half now, they are dry and out of the sun. What about wrapping with plastic to prevent ozone deterioration? Or should I even be concerned?

MJ is ALIVE - tranny Q's
64 Cheyenne replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I hear they start popping out of reverse. Grenade with dumping the clutch, heavy towing. Two of mine have bearing noises coming from the front mainshaft bearing. Both of these will or have been replaced with AX-15s. Besides, for the cost of a tow home, I could get very close to having an AX-15 for my truck. +/- $200 bucks That is my general cost est. for the tranny alone. After all said and done probably more. Just depends where and how you get your replacement. I lucked out and got my last AX-15 231 combo with all accessories for $125. Plus about a hundred in fuel and the cost of a motel for the night. Made for a nice weekend drive. If your tranny is working OK, you don't abuse it and the oil has been changed. That tranny could live for a long time or it might just go boom tomorrow. There are many people who have them that are aware of their limitations treated them accordingly and had them last for many years. Myself, I like the boonies, wouldn't want to have to walk home because of something I know was week and could have avoided. BTW, the AX-4,5s is/are 4cyl transmissions, would probably last less time than the goat. -
Need more info. Quote: "There are 2 manche's, one red and the other is gray. On the same page." Where, what page? Maybe Streetruck?

New ones cost nearly a hundred bucks or more @ Rockauto and on Ebay. I want to try a used one first if I can find one. Why TPS? Runaway starts is getting old, try to fix this issue while the 88 is down for gears.

Flush or replace the lines?

Well if their not listed for an MJ, I really don't think you'll have any problems. You can see mine installed on my 88 as seen in it's build.
