I use old hub bolts, put one in till it has only about 1/8" sticking out, BFH till it moves. I think it is helpful to use PB Blaster around the circumference where the hub mounts.

I was just working on this very thing yesterday. I used the cable clamp method, with cables off of the donor XJ (I think they were from the XJ, I just dug them out of "parts"). I found that that both sides have to be pretty even where you make the bend and place the clamp. If not the adjustment/balance bar will be uneven. PIA to get it even. I also left 2 1/2" inches of return spring on, to do it again I would only leave about 2" to 2 1/4" of spring. My only other concern was that the actuating lever where it enters the rear of the backing plate didn't always seem to return fully to where it is supposed to be. I took it apart a few times, put grease on the pivot points. I'm hoping that with use, the arm will quit sticking, I'll keep an eye on it. Far as the Exploder cables, I looked at them seen the different lengths and threw them away. Cost of using the XJ cables, less than 5 bucks, 2 cable clamps and 2 thimbles.

I would pull the cable, clean and lube it, making sure to lube the speedo part under the dash. BTW your cable is 2 piece. One part goes TC to cruise control sender, then from there to the gauge.

Slave Cylinder Location?
64 Cheyenne replied to 86JeepComache's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Internal ? If so there are two lines in/out of the bell housing. one is pressure, the other is for the bleeder. I'm kind of guessing about your set up as you haven't posted engine tranny combo. -
First question: Yes Is it worth it, no. It requires swapping out the mainshaft and tail assy. Pretty much the guts out of a 4x4 AX15. At that point you'd be miles ahead to just swap in the 4x4 AX15. Besides, to swap those parts you would have to cannibalize and destroy a perfectly good 4x4 tranny. IMO not worth the time money and effort, bite the bullet, and swap correct tranny in.

I had to vote functional because you didn't show if the quarter guards have returns to the frame. If you do have returns, then I would definitely upgrade my vote to decent or even better yet (which you don't have a vote fore) exceptional etc.
-
That would suck. Can you imagine telling someone that you have a Comanche or two. Then having to tell them they're "old ones." Cool and uniqueness factors, gone. To be replaced with something most of us would hate. No Thanks

I'm not into a morals discussion again, that's not where I want to go with my 2 cents. But if the truck has a good title......A friend of a friend used a good title to register an MJ that had a lost title etc. Your still using a MJs misfortune to save another. Parts is parts.
-
Myself, I couldn't tell you. But if you have a hitch available, I'd grab it. A rear frame mounted hitch is "one of those parts" that I'd not pass up whether I needed it or not. I would sure like to buy one if it is not needed. (hint hint) But If I'm right I'll keep searching LOL.

8.8 Set-Up Spec Question
64 Cheyenne replied to 64 Cheyenne's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thank Dave, I'm still on course. Ed -
My USA Gear Set-Up book calls for two different BL specs for an 8.8. One spec says: (Old 5 cut) 11-16 Thou BL The other says: (New 2 cut) 3-6 Thou BL My question is, what are they meaning 2 cut or 5 cut and how to tell the difference. My assumption is that they are talking about the profile of the gear "cut"? BTW the axle is out of an 96 Exploder.

I'm sorry, the "sub" console I meant was the Suburban overhead.

Allriiiigghhtt......Rob! Thank You!   And thank you also JeepcoMJ I just might do the recover thing, that looks like it might work well. Come to think about it, I think I still have a couple cans of that 3M spray adhesive.......I know, not for the headliner (3M Auto Headliner Adhesive only), but I think it would work well for the backwall. What about the sub console, does it have any electronic do-hickeys in it? Got any more pics or info on it? I really enjoy this place!

Most employers know the meaning of "dismissed", especially if they have a probationary period and know/have used it in it's cruel forms in the past. Freak, I also wondered where you been hiding lately. Seems like we don't hear from you much anymore. What's up with that? New GF or what..... :rotf: Just kiddin. Also wanted to tell you that your typing and grammar have skills have improved very much  My turn to ask you...... Now what about those MJs.....
-
Lots of times I order for an XJ instead of a MJ. Get a lot less questioning that way.
-
I don't need them, but you should snag the Comanche flags also. If you can.
-
I'd like to post one of my rust free complete MJs next to his. Ask $3999 :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Just kidding

Transmission compatability quesion
64 Cheyenne replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the OP is saying that he is getting the AW4 and 231 for $150. -
Think "everything" from the donor vehicle. I wouldn't even attempt the swap without having a 100 per cent complete donor vehicle sitting next to the gutted vehicle. About the only thing that can be a variable is in the tranny/running gear. If you swap between manual and auto, there are computer issues to be dealt with. The HO AW4 tranny computer is integral with the HO engine computer. The Renix AW4 tranny computer is stand alone. I'm not sure, but I think there is a different HO computer for manual tranny equipped vehicles.

Whaaat.....? Maybe I'm missing something here. I don't even want to jump into a discussion about liberals or whatever. That is not what I was getting at. I keep thinking that " Another good E-Mail" Is the one with "bird bird bird bird bird" you know the one, makes me fear opening any post titled email anything. Fraid I might get bird bird bird......... :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Sorry, I was just ranting for entertainment........ After all this is the Pub.

Every time that thing gets bumped, I cringe. I want to look, but remember curiosity killed the cat, oh well, I guess there are some things I wasn't meant to subscribe to. :rotf: :rotf:

Definitely got my $100 MJ beat
-
:agree: And FWIW, I'm an old f***** and proud of it. Besides that, the main difference between me and the OP is that my parents brought me up to respect people older than myself. Actually I was taught to be kind and respectfull of all people. I do have to admit that when I was young and dumb this was not always the case. :typing:

Congrats Jim! And a big Thank You also to mike87mj for his contribution and wise decision in keeping this MJ in the fold of a strong following. This has been one good story, I was captivated the whole way!

What did you say in English, with punctuation? Most people don't post as if texting on a cell phone, I think it's rude and impolite. My daughter talks to her friends that way (she's 11) when she communicates with an adult, it's in correct polite English, or not at all. It's a sign of respect to other people, when they are treated as adults. The console.... grab all the brackets and such. what you don't need, there is always the trash can.
