maybe gettin a new to me manche...revised w pics
dasbulliwagen replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in The Pub
In 86 the 2.8 was offered with an auto column shift factory, and all auto column shift trucks got the plate put in the floor factory. The auto in 1986 on the 2.8 should be the A904 or TF904.... basically a lighter duty version of the TF727 that chrysler has used extensively. And it could be either a 2x4 or a 4x4. You might want to look at the rear axle too to see if its a dana 35 or the much sought after corporate 20 which would mean its a metric tonne model. If 4x4 I'm not sure what transfer case would have been put behind the auto. The one on my 86 waggy 2.8 auto is the NP228 selec-trac, but I'm pretty sure they never offered that option on the MJ's. Looks like a nice find, keep us updated! -
Re ran the VIN with the 74 instead of 24 and it now works. The code descriptions arent there, but Ill put them up for you anyways... maybe you can get them decoded. JK wrangler ones will, same diam and similar length, but probably stiffer due to being in a heavier vehicle.

Do one or two more burnouts and you can get rid of your Puegot BA-10/5 transmission weather you want to or not. You might want to start keeping an eye out for an AX-15 to replace it sooner rather than later.

Sorry. Must be that Chrysler thinks that your jeep doesnt exist. They have the VIN to my 87, but no build info, can't beleive they don't show yours. There is a site through Chrysler that you can email for a build sheet, but I think they go to the same VIN check that I do. Maybe someone here has a link. Might be worth a try.

The "J" would make it an 88, but after studying the last 6 of the VIN, the serial number part... none of the ones on the registry go over 219000. So I'm wondering if the 4 needs to be a 1???
-
Re check the VIN, its coming up as not found..... yes I can still get a build for it, even though some of the codes have changed, it will give you a real good idea.

What is the approximate milage?

I have an odd problem
dasbulliwagen replied to Jeepcom23's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Arcs like sparking? Electrically, or like metal to metal contact casuing a spark from friction? Sounds weird! -
Or you can Waggy your MJ to make a matched set....like mine!
-
31"s will fit with no lift, and rub on the lower control arms, but if you replace them with WJ Grand Cherokee lower control arms you will do away with that problem, they are also stronger peices. But a 2" front spring spacer, and maybe some Chevy drop shackles for the rear springs and youll be right where you want to be. Nice truck, and nice waggy. Keep us updated!

This article was just posted today at www.allpar.com telling of a dealer meeting showing upcoming vehicles. Pay special attention to the LAST paragraph. http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/20 ... to-dealers Two Allpar readers at the national dealer meeting reported on the cars shown: The big news is the new Dodge Viper, driven in to the amazement of everyone there. It is apparently a big styling change and people raved about it. The looks are more upscale, and word is that the product committee took just five minutes to unanimously approve the car. The Chrysler 300 was shown, and is as beautiful as they claim. They claim to have spent $1 billion dollars on the development and used the BMW 5-series (starting at $44,000) as a benchmark. The interior is incredibly impressive, with hand-sanded wood accents. With the optional eight-speed automatic, it can get 30 mpg. The Chrysler 200 looks good overall and is a vast improvement over the Sebring. The pillars are all that remain the same. With the six-speed dual-clutch automatic, engineered by both Chrysler and Fiat (both had dual-clutch designs at the time of the deal), it reportedly hits 29 mpg. The Chrysler 200 will see showrooms in November. The minivan looks even better in person, and the interior is truly impressive especially on the Limited. The Dodge Caravan has also been greatly improved inside, with a sportier exterior; the suspension has reportedly been tuned for a more sporty feel (as in years before 2008), and the “man van” has been confirmed as a limited edition version. The Dodge Challenger V6 is rated at 305 horsepower, (as at least one other web site reported). The 6.4 liter Hemi will be called the 392, as previously reported The Dodge Charger was shown and it is a vast improvement, especially the interior. The Ram 3500 Longhorn package was impressive in luxury and had a badge in the floor mat that could be worn as a belt buckle. It will appear at the Texas State Fair soon. The Ram 2500 and 3500 will have RamBox optional next year. The new Dodge Journey was shown, with one of the best looking interiors there; even Ralph Gilles was gushing about it. Dodge Avenger, is an Avenger. New powertrain, basically, with most of the changes going into the Chrysler 200. They showed the new small Dodge pickup truck (possibly still called Dakota). Jeep Compass really does look like a baby Grand Cherokee. At the end of the Jeep show, Mike Manley started to leave but (in a Steve Jobs-like move) a door opened and a Jeep pickup truck drove in. It was similar to the Jeep Gladiator concept, big tire on the side and all. Manley shrugged, said, “Hey, you never know,” and walked off.

Technically I think thats called a heads up display. Our Jeeps were way ahead of their time you know!

Youd better run this by Pete! After all he is the owner. But a shirt would be cool!

Pass me some of what youve been smokin! :chillin:

Besides being a Chry Jeep Dodge dealer, we are also a Mazda dealer, of which I am recently certified.... anyways, the Mazda version of the Escape is the Tribute. We have several that come through the dealer on a regular basis, and I havent noticed any major issues with them. 99% of them are 3.0 V6 autos, and yeah the interior seems cheapy, but if I had to take one and rely on it I would.

I've seen an AMC Eagle, might go see it. What too look for?

Limited Slip Rear Differential Swap Options
dasbulliwagen replied to Rampage's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
With the rarity of MJ axles with LSD in either the 35 or 44 versions, any other option will be of similar work. I don't beleive that the 8.8 will be any more work to convert than the 8.25, or an XJ 44, and I think the 8.8 will be easier to find in LSD than the other options too. From what Ive seen its no big deal to hook up the parking break on the 8.8, and you have to move the perches anyways. Go to www.car-part.com and you can search for axles in your area. Good luck! -
RIP TO MY 2.8L V6 STOCK 1986

Very nice! I will probably do the same thing to my 86 MJ if I ever get to work on it. ENJOY! -
diesel comanche mpg compared to the Renix....?
dasbulliwagen replied to dunl's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Original Diesel Comanches are SOOOOOOO rare, that having this discussion is somewhat ridiculous. JeepcoMJ has documented fewer than 30 remaining examples. And their power is well known as being extrememly underwhelming and reliability very poor. Now if you are talking about converting one to diesel, then it depends on what diesel you use as a donor. Those type of swaps usually require you to spend cubic dollars in order to get a good result, and at that point fuel economy is not a concern. Now if you just want to know so you can expand your knowledge of our wonderful truck.... then more power to you! You just won't get any of that power from a diesel! -
I wish you the best, but I think youre wasting youre money. The crack you see is only part of the damage. That crack opens on a pivot point.... there are more you can't see that will just pivot the other direction when you go to try and use this. That or it will just pop up the JB job. I want this to work as much as you do, but my sensibility is telling me it won't. can't wait to hear what happens!
