'74(ish) VW Dune Buggy Build
dasbulliwagen replied to neohic's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
My grandfather built one of these, though not this particular one, as I don't have any images scanned from it, but the one he built is the same color with the same striping. Wild little thing on a VW pan shortened I think either 22-24 inches. My dad has it now. Theres no telling if Ill ever get it because there is a lot of controversy in the family as to who should get it next, as it was my mothers father who built it, not my dads dad. can't wait to see your project make progress! -
Minor misfire when idling ('89 4.0L AW4)
dasbulliwagen replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, injectors, dirty valves, burned valves, can all cause a misfire condition. Maybe run some seafoam through, check your spark plugs, maybe go out at night and fire it up and look for arcing from the plug wires. Good luck. -

Nice solid donor! Judging by the looks of it, it appears to be between 1973-1977 standard Bug. Am I right? -

They may be cheaper and more options, but thats not the point.... THEY ARE JEEP! :brows: -
http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/20 ... d-trailers http://www.allpar.com/trucks/jeep/jeep-campers.html Claiming an industry first, Jeep has launched a pair of new off-road trailers with tubular aluminum frames (no wood or fiberboard), which add strength and reduce weight compared with traditional camper construction. Both are designed for offroad use; the regular Jeep Trail Edition camper runs $9,995 and weighs 850 lb. The Extreme version runs $2,000 more and weighs 1,050 lb, but has 15 inches of ground clearance (vs 12 inches on the regular model), a heavier duty frame, a larger skid plate protected area, and other features. The trailers will be ready for ordering in August from Jeep dealers. Full details and more photos are on our Jeep Camper page.

Front fenders are the same as well between XJ MJ.... just saying you can't use front fenders to repair rear bedsides. I know this is getting confusing, but mostly because of everyones short answers. Sorry.

Long trip in a Comanche

Why unlock the column? With the front wheels strapped into the dolly there's no way they can turn relative to the body anyway. The dolly's Ive used didnt have much turn to the table that the front tires sit on, and you needed to unlock the column to get proper articulation when turning. -
Can any of you mopar fellas run this for me?

!No problemo muchacho! -
If youre a handy person, you could make one from a YJ Jeep Wrangler work... its a very similar setup, and same era too. The dealer still has them new as it was part of a recall, and I bet youd find several at the junkyard.

Long trip in a Comanche

Ive used the dollys many times very sucessfully on various cars, the MJ should be no different, disco the rear driveshaft, unlock the column, and hit the road. -
Theyre supposed to bolt right in to our trucks, I was given a set of OEM shackles from a Chevy, and they are the same dimensions as stock MJ shackles, so those should work for you.
-
When I made the cross harness for mine, it only included the stuff for the other front door, the donor door had a seperate connector that I left unused to contol the rear doors. I would think that it shouldnt matter if its from a 4 door or not. And you can make a 4 doors switch setup work just fine till you run across a 2 door switch setup... should just be plug n play.

I agree on the Murphy's law thing... the one tool you don't bring will be the one you need. Lots of water, lots of oil....motor and gear, Fix a flat, tire plugger kit, brake fluid... big bottle or two, blankets or cardboard to lay on, rags, make sure your spare is aired up.. or bring more than one spare, if its 4x4, bring a few quarts of atf for the transfer case, anything you can think of that might happen and have a roadside fix. An extra battery if you have one! Any spare parts like an alternator, maybe a selection of hoses. And most important of all, your AAA membership card, and a cell phone, and a credit card to rent a UHaul and a tow dolly. -

Theres a line held on with hose clamps, and a line that has a screw in fitting and a stiffer hose, you pull off the low pressure, less stiff hose and let it drain out there. If you tried to suck it out of the resevior, you wouldnt get it all because there should be a screen in there to catch any larger debris. Good luck..... oh, and why are you trying to drain it? Just curious.

Mine too was a complete door swap... easier thst way than swapping all that stuff over.
-
I just did that on mine. Added power windows, locks, and mirrors, and vent wing windows. I had to make my own cross body wiring harness, but some say you can grab this harness out of your donor if it has it seperate from the rest of the harness. Great upgrade if you can do it. I also added power antenna from the same donor vehicle. Youll need to do something about the door panels too if you don't want to have a hole left over from where the window crank was. If you need more details about the wiring, let me know and Ill see what I can put together for you.

I think the 10 slot would look better if the rest of the front trim was chrome also.
-
I think the CV style shafts from a ZJ Grand Cherokee are supposed to work. You might need to knock off the tone ring for the ABS though. Hopefully someone else will chime in on this. Most people don't do this swap though because the CV is a weaker setup the the universals. Good luck!

power surge in aux
dasbulliwagen replied to MancheKid86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm assuming you have an aftermarket high power head unit.... maybe on hard hits its pulling voltage too low to keep the unit powered up. From what I remember, some people wire large capacitors inline, especially to amps for when something like your problem happens. Voltage goes low, and the capacitor kicks in and makes it up. Might be something for you to research. Good luck. -
