  1. The front XJ lift and steering items will work for your MJ. The rear add a leafs for an XJ if added to the MJ packs probably won't get you much if any lift, as MJ springs already have more arch in them than XJ leafs do. If added to the stock MJ packs spring under, it may actually lower the rear end due to the added leaf thickness. I think the other guy was saying that if you are keeping the 4 cyl the trans and tcase in the XJ won't be any use to you, unless you swap it all over completely from the XJ to do a 6cyl swap, but I'm not sure that that is the info you were looking for.
  2. I think I have the same truck you do, 87 2.5. Ive swapped to 4:10 gears and have yet to put in the 5 speed. Engine RPM is increased in 4th gear, but after looking at one of the tire size and gear calculators on the site here somewhere, I found that if I kept the 4 speed with the 4:10 gears, and went with 31 or 32 inch tires, I would be VERY close, especially with 32 inch tires, to factory top speed RPMs. A fifth gear in that situation would be all but worthless, especially with the 2.5.
  3. I looked at doing this to my donor trans and gave up before ruining it, if I need to remove the handle, Ill pull the whole thing and cover the hole with a rag. Not worth screwing something up.
  4. Does an 88 2.5 actually have an intake air temp sensor??? I don't think it has one. Do you have a pic of the part you are wanting to replace so we can identify it?
  5. The livingroom in my house is a converted carport, and it came with a natural gas radiant wall unit. We used it a couple times and combined with a ceiling fan it heated the 600 sq ft room nicely. A propane unit should do the same. Just make sure you use a fan with it to circulate the heat better.
  6. What header are you using on your 2.5? I don't yet know what header I will be using on my 2.5. I just know that the only ones now available are for later non EGR models for YJ's and TJ's. I just figured Id try to make one of those work and re do my exhaust to get to get to the header outlet.... no big deal, I don't think. But then again, I havent done it yet!
  7. Doing what you are proposing should be fine. I plan on doing the same thing when I put a header on my 87 2.5.
  8. This gives me hope that the 86 Waggy I had given to me has 4:10 axles under it. It has the 2.8, A904, NP228 combo in it, but I couldnt read the axle tags. With the NP228, that means it has a non-disco front axle!
  9. If its rust free, you may be able to get under and see if it has the axle tags on it still to get a gear ratio. But I would assume it might have 3:73 or 4:10 gearing. I don't think any of the 86 options included a 3:55, except maybe a 4 speed 4 cylinder. Check this out and let us know what you find!
  10. I should hit 350,000 next year, and plan on keeping a camera with me to document it!
  11. I assume youre talking about the belt at the compressor. Where are you applying oil to? If youre applying oil to the clutch discs, youre probably screwed at this point. The compressor clutch needs to stay clean and dry from oily residues. Some places do just sell a clutch kit for the compressor, but it will usually cost as much as a complete compressor will or real close to it. You may try just tightening your drive belt as well. I had a similar issue and tightening the belt took care of the noise. Ive also seen them make noise because the belt was old and glazed... just needs a new belt at that point. Good luck.
  12. I have my truck ready for this, but I know that the mirrors don't work right so I havent wired up the switch yet. Maybe if I find good working donors later Ill tackle the wiring.
  13. Not wanting to change to a dual diaphragm because of added weight is ridiculous. I'm not trying to sound mean, but in the grand scheme of things, the little (if any) added weight problem is greatly outweighed by the increase in braking performance. If you need to change it, make it better while youre at it. My 2 cents.
  14. Please be aware not all the option descriptions below are accurate as chrysler has recycled some of the codes for newer options. Enjoy. 15. soak it in the engine degreaser, then go to the carwash and use the pressure washer to blow it all away.

    wow...

I sat through that whole thing thinking I would see a Jeep, but there was nothing but the emblem to represent Jeep. That was 4 minutes of my life I will never get back.
  18. Another way to drop the rear would be to use blocks. As our trucks are spring under, adding blocks will lower it the thickness of the block. I'm not sure if you want to keep any load capacity, but you might loose another 1/2" or so by removing the overload spring froim the pack. If you want to go radically lower in the front you may want to look at the worldsfastestcomanche thread. I think he took two 2wd front beams and cut the center out of one and stacked it on top of the other with the ends cut off to make a sort of dropped beam front axle while keeping original style front end geometry for the control arms. This would take a lot of fab, but I guess it depends on how far you want to go. Good luck and keep us updated! viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12248 WFC thread ^^^
  19. In your price range a 60 gallon single stage compressor should do the trick for you. Though I havent priced any lately. If you can wait till the day after tgiving, you might catch a good discount on one from tractor suppy or similar places. Call ahead of time to see if theyll be doing any discounts like that. This price does not include wiring the compressor up, or plumbing any air lines, or rugulators, oil and water seperators, etc. Keep an eye on craiglslist for some about this size and you might get a better deal with the tradeoff of not knowing its history or if it will break on you any time soon.
  20. Your ride would be helped greatly by a set of control arm drop brackets. If the springs really are what they say, you shouldnt have that rough of a ride. The control arm angle is what youre feeling over the bumps. The higher angle tranfers more road shock to the unibody than a lower angle does. The drop brackets would bring this back to a more bearable angle.
  21. I didn't realize you were one of those people. I havent put a new post on facebook in more than a year now. I just use it to keep up with family, as I live 800 miles from all of them. I'm not one that posts every thing I do on there like some people. I don't see how some of them find the time to do as much as they do.... its crazy. I just thought this would be a good funny to post.
  22. The 1990 models didnt have too many codes to give to begin with, but SOME dealers may still have the cords and card needed to plug a DRB III into it to get some info. It will cost you probably $85 or so for the diagnostic fee to read the codes if there are any there. Those models didnt have good memory so every time it gets shut off, it looses whatever codes may have been set, and needs to start over again at next restart. Good luck.
  23. I just made this my facebook status!
