Heater Blower Motor Headache!
motorbikejedi replied to motorbikejedi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wow, how I overlook the simple things in life. I didnt notice that violet and yellow wire, when I found it it was very easy to check to see if there was power, because it was unplugged, sure enough there was power, I didnt realize thats what the diagram was refering to as the heater mode select switch, although now it is very obvious looking again! But now I have full function of the blower motor and all set for insurance and plates! As for the wiring diagram looking screwy I removed the AC portion of the blower circuit to make it easier to read. Now I can slap everything back together and I will be good to go! Thanks for all the help! -
Hey everybody, I have a few questions and maybe someone here has some answers for me! I am trying to get my blower motor to work but having troubles with the elctricity! I have jumped the motor so I know it is good. When tracing the wiring diagram back I have checked to see if I was getting power at the resistor, and I didnt have any power at any connectors, so I back tracked to the switch, nothing at the light blue wire which should be hot I think with the vents turned on, I checked at the fuse and it had power on both sides, so my problem seems to be between the switch and the fuse, There is a heater mode select switch that is inbetween but I have no idea where or what that is. So It should be either the wiring, maybe a splice on the lt blue wire for low speed between the fuse and switch somewhere or the heater mode select switch. Does anyone have any ideas where that is or any ideas where my problem could be? It is a 1987 2.5 four speed with no AC, any ideas let me know, here is a diagram for anyone willing to chime in with some help! This is my last project before getting the truck back on the road!

AHHHHHHHH I am soo excited, 4 years with no revese lights, 1 headlamp hooked up to a toggle switch on the rear bumper later, it was just that dang fuse missing from previous owner so I never thought it was supposed to be there. ! I never imagined that reverse light was hooked up to the trans fuse!!!! I could never find a wiring diagram to confirm that but it doesnt matter now, they work!!!! Now I have to rip out that hillbilly reverse light I had rigged up! So I am also confirming, I have a 2.5 with a 4 speed manual and the revrse light run with that trans fuse. This truck is in way better shape than it ever has since I've had it. I just got the new gas tank in, U joints, fixed the revese lights, new wood dash and radio from a cherokee, fixing all the lights and this puppy will be 100% road ready! Thanks for the help!

Does anyone know somewhere to find a lighting wiring diagram for a manual trans? its not in the online manual!

I have a 1987 jeep comanche 2.5 with a four speed, there is no trans fuse and I am having trouble finding a wiring diagram to start looking. Should there be a trans fuse I assumed it was an automatic thing, The online chilton manual is not helping very much! Any help appreciated!

2.5 2Wd To 4Wd Budget Conversion Plans
motorbikejedi replied to motorbikejedi's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Ok, I have not worked on transfer cases at all other than removing and installing, is it a difficult proceedure to replace the spline shaft? I will find out what year the transmission is and look into an external slave cylinder. That is good to know, I will have to look for markings on the cherokee front axle, That is a 94 4.0 auto, So your saying that may be the axle I need! I just brought my truck home from my parents house, started great after sitting for 6 months other than having to be jumped. As for the truck being SUA, are comanches all stock SUA even with 4wd? Sorry about the confusing post, I tend to ramble on on this kind of stuff and start mixing up words for some reason! Thanks for the help, I am looking forward to looking up the axles and tearing them off. As for the lift I will wait on that, I like the low to ground look anyways, I should have enough clearance for most of the mild off roading I plan to do. Thanks for the input -
Well first off It has been awhile since I posted, or done anything with my truck for that matter. I have a 1987 jeep comanche 2wd 2.5 liter 127xxx miles with a 4 speed transmission. I have posted about this a few times, but now I have my OWN garage I may be able to actually proceed with all of my plans for this truck. I am in the planning stage right now so please correct me if you see any gaps or problems with my plan My master plan Convert my comanche from 2wd to 4wd What I have 1994 jeep cherokee 4.0 ho 4wd parts planning on using (other than miscilanious parts) -transfer case I was told its a 231, which I didnt know would work on a 2.5 trans but apparently it does. -set of axles once I figure out which axle exactly are on this jeep I will go from there, I have been told the gearing from the cherokee axles will make my jeep slow as a molasses. So possibly trade these two axles for a front axle from a 2.5 to match the rear. Any reccomendations for what axles should be used in my 2.5 would be appreciated. -front drive shaft -3" zone lift This should work even with the cherokee lift in the back, If i put the add a leaf lift in the rear, even being shorter, It should give me a higher payload rating, added stiffness. This will be ok because I don't need lift out of the rear, I will have to pull out the rear axle and cut and move the mounts from over to under the leaf spring, which will be about 4 inches or so of lift to match the 3 inch lift in the front. -mis parts include doors lights for spares, interior items What I need -transmission, I found someone with an ax5 for sale, Then I would need a clutch most likely for it. Does anyone know about the slave cylinder, Will my four speed slave cyl work with the ax5? -rear driveshaft, Either cut mine or extend the cherokee or find a comanche shaft. - new stabalizer bar or extend stock one for lift. This is all i need in my twisted head If anyone thinks of added parts that will be needed, I am trying to see how inexpensivly I can do this, I will worry about bigger tires and new parts when I am done with the conversion. I am sure I will end up doing front end work when the axle is out and I find bad parts but I roughly figure. I wil start tearing into the cherokee this week hopefully, if work gives me a little break. thanks for looking and as much input as you have as this will be a new experience for me

I was wondering if anybody knows if a radiator from a 94 cherokee 4.0 will fit an 88 comanche with a 4.0? I am curious because I may be picking up this truck which needs a radiator and have a 94 cherokee for parts. Just curious, I am sure parts can be changed to get it to fit, but interested to know, Thanks. I looked up the parts at a part store site, they offer two different radiators for these, they are different but all the specs are the same. Thanks Kevin

Well, All of my researching may do me no good now, I think I have come across an 88 comanche with a 4.0 and 4wd, and i would just sell my 2.5 jeep! The jeep I would be getting needs a radiator and door handles and a few odds and ends that I will have to grab from the cherokee, does anyone know if the radiator will fit into the comanche? Its a 94 cherokee into an 88 comanche. Thanks!

I agree with that, it seems these guys are finding running jeeps 4x4 and everything for so cheap, I would like to find one for just a few hundred, but i know theres a lot of people looking for the same thing. Thats good to know that my rear axle will work, that will mean all I will hopefully need will be the trans, transfer case and front axle, Then mod my rear axle so it is under the leafs. Thanks for the info guys, I'm building up some good info everyone, so my big wonder now is for the donor jeep, Will the front axle off a wrangler mount up with out mods or only from the cherokee? Thanks again everyone, it is awesome having a site like this for reference!

I am not under the impression that I am going to use any trans or transfer case from the xj, I just wanted a few parts because it was so cheap. I was thinking about using the axles purely because they can be used together that's why I asked, The trans I have now will not hook up to any transfer case, My plan was to use all the parts I can from the xj, I was hoping the axles, but its not worth it if its gonna make it that slow. I just have a lot of questions, I have nothing as of now for the 4wd swap, just lots of other parts from the XJ. If I am unable to find an xj with the 2.5 will a wrangler with a 2.5 work? I was thinking if I could find just the trans and transfer case it would be cheaper, but not now that I know those axles won't work I would love to find a jeep with a blown 2.5 or something but Its just hard to find. Thanks again for the help, And I am not set on anything right now, I want all the info I can get before I start tearing apart my beloved comanche. Thanks for the info on the 94 and newer, I will definitely keep that in mind when looking for a donor. If I find a donor 2.5 with 4wd from a cherokee or wrangler, will the rear axle mount up without modification?

I am in Michigan in the detroit area. You say that the xj lift will not fit? The front ends are identicle aren't they? It has a zone offroad 3 inch lift and zone add a leaf in the rear. It also has one ton steering set up in the front. I plan on taking lots of interior parts and the front brakes are way better than the ones on the comanche, For only 150 for the cherokee, I will be able to get all the parts I want then scrap it and mostly make my money back. I looked on oreillys and I am thinking that the axle I have is the Spicer 35C 7.59 Inch Ring Gear? I base that only by the picture which looks like the one I bought when I redid the fluid and gasket. So you say none of the cherokee parts will fit the comanche? This is what I was hoping to use from the cherokee Brake caliper, pads and rotors, all the speakers and head units Zone lift 3" front and back Interior lights Axle if they will mount up with little modification Light housings for the blinkers. I will pull apart the cherokee hopefully this weekend and then see where I am at parts wise. Thanks for the help everyone
