  1. I finished the chopper trike resto in time. We will give it to him this weekend, though I think he's still a little small for it. I didnt take quite as much time and detail into doing this one up, but it seems to have turned out nice. The rear tires are for a lawnmover deck... the zero turn type and have a 3/4" axle to hold them in place. That makes it a little heavier and well planted. That and those tires are rated for some real weight too. Anyways, here's the pics, along side the one I did a couple years ago.
  2. I went through all 5o some pages of that build last night, and I have to admit, it looks to be pretty badazz. The guy doing it did great work too. That thing will be awesome when hes finished with the bodywork and interior.
  3. I too, do not know what a 2JZ is, nor do I feel like looking it up. But where theres a will, theres a way. If this is something you really want to do, no one is stopping you.... and yes a Dana 44 rear will hold up just fine to 220 HP.
  4. I hope you got the corner marker lights too. They are different than the regular ones as well and are near impossible to find. Nice score though! here's a reminder of how well they go on a manche though!
  5. I have a set of those on my MJ. I had to make up a bracket after installing the Cherokee rear bumper, and I bought a set of those to make it legal for inspection. They get the job done just fine. Though it makes it hard to change a plate if you need to as the wires have to be fed through each time. My first plate bracket hasnt held up real well, so I'm looking at adding some small pin type connectors to it when I fix it again.
  6. If its 1986 model, Chrysler won't be any help to you as far as getting a VIN inquiry. Their info only goes back to 88 or 89 on our trucks. They have my 87 in the system, but no build info, the 86's won't even be in the system. Sorry.
  7. Since the track bar attaches to the left side, sometimes it will pull the left side down a bit, all you can do is try to add an extra isolator or two to the driver side and hope for the best.
  8. Yes, original cluster, and I'm second owner. PO put 336,000 of those on it.
  9. On Easter sunday, my MJ turned 350,000 miles. Gotta love it!
  10. The front JK springs will work, but are about the same length as stock XJ springs. the rate might be a bit higher which might give a small amount of lift, but I'm not sure that it would be worth the trouble.I was going to do this on my donor parts truck when I put the front axle back in, but as the springs were about the same size, I didnt see the point too much and decided against it.
  11. Coca-Cola stuff. I have a decent sized collection and most of it was free. Some other things like antique coolers have been picked up from time to time. My 60's Coke vending machine was free as well... it don't work but is restorable, and looks nice just sitting there. Sometimes I see something different and pick it up if it don't cost too much. Some day Ill put it all in one place and have it nicely displayed.
  12. I was wondering how I missed this thread over the years. The last old post was up not long before I joined here. 1. I will drink Coke Classic till the day I die. 2. Cat lover, and former cat rescue foster home (raised and placed better than 30 kittens in about 3 years time) 3. Love old things with motors, and without motors, currently restoring my second childrens tricycle. 4. Love to cook , but don't love to clean up after. 5. Named my daughter after an air cooled Volkwagen (Ghia)
  13. I bought some of their wratchets, and the first time I used the 3/8" one, it broke, got another one, it broke, did this 5 times with the 3/8 wratchet then got denied and given a phone number to call to get approval. Called the number, got a message saying to leave my info and I would be called back within 48 hours.... they never called back. I found my receipt, took it back again, asked for a manager, and got my money back. The 1/4" wratcht I got is doing great and I love using it, I just wish the other one was a s good. Sorry for hijack.
  14. I would fix and lift the Comanche, because once you turn it into a trail only rig, it will quickly get beat up and then never be fixable again. I really hate to see trucks be trail only, because they are really never usable for anything else ever again.
  15. It appears the the title word "VENDERS" is misspelled. I think its supposed to be "Vendors". Please check on this.
  16. Ive always heard good stuff about the Autozone batteries, and have one in my Hyundai Accent... its been in there for maybe 7-8 years now. I tested it recently and it it still tested good. It just keeps on keepin on. Ive also had good luck with Delco's and I recently put a new Napa top of the line battery in my Hyundai Tucson after doing some research on it. Being in the dealership, we see a lot of them come through and notice trends... batteries mounted in really hot environments like under the hood of a minivan, don't last much more than three years, no matter what make, then you have others that are isolated and actively cooled like in most mazdas, and they don't last, but mostly because they are junk Panasonic batteries. The wally world ones don't last well either. Oh and guess what other batteries are made by interstate? MOPAR batteries are black cased Interstates, and are even delivered by the interstate battery truck. FYI
  17. I vote the black and gold, or the dark green with gold instead of silver.... gold and green go together much better.
  18. We can only hope they are dangling these concepts out there to guage interest in various offshoots of the next redesigned Wrangler platform which will be coming out in the next couple of years. They are also looking at expanding the Jeep factory in Toledo where the Wranglers are built to add volume, and hopefully model offshoots like these. Lets just hope and pray that they are smart enough to keep the things solid axle front and rear, to retain heritage and customability (is that a word?) There seems to be a decent group of people in the company now, so we will see what happens when the time comes.
  19. My mom bought a 2001 PT right when they came out... paid too much at the time but that didnt matter. She still has it and has had few if any problems. The auto trans issues are more with the minivans than they are with the PT's or Neons. We don't see many issues with them at the dealership, so I wouldnt be too afraid of an auto if thats what you find. But the manual ones like that are few and far between. Like you said, may be just what you need to keep from messing with it. Some of the biggest issues we see with them at the dealer are for cam sensors, and electric cooling fans going bad. I say go for it.
  20. I'm not trying to say youre wrong, and I know they were designed a certain way for a reason, but the experience of myself and others shows no loss of performance or reliability doing this. And there isnt an inspection station anywhere that will gamble the cost of inspecting the inside of a cat. Now if our trucks had an after cat monitor, this would be a different story. In that case, having the guts inside is mandatory to keep the CEL off. I know it is better to keep everything intact in most cases, but this isnt one of them.
  21. Its been over a year since this was updated, but I think progress is about to be made on the chopper trike. I finally found the rear tires I wanted, so i brough it up to my wife, and she says " great, can you finish it in time for Griffins 2'nd birthday?" Griffin is my buddy's boy, and his birthday is 1 month away. So we will see if if I can get this thing fixed up and done in time. Ill take pics for you and update it as the process goes along.
  22. I still have my original window sticker for my 87. Getting the truck from the original owner helps with things like this!
  23. Many companies will also do "agreed value coverage" where you and the company agree on a vehicle value, often after an appraisal, and then get coverage based on that value. Just FYI
  24. When we see this cap issue at the delaer, we pop the top part off and use some channel locks to unscrew the part in the valve cover, but I like the JB weld or epoxy idea, Ill have to remember that.
