Wrangler Hood, grill And Fenders On Mj ???
dasbulliwagen replied to jeepnleo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the JK is WAY too wide for this. I had some extra JK bumpers laying around and wanted to see if they would go on the MJ a while back. They are about a foot too wide. There was no way a JK bumper was going to fit. I think youll have the same issue with the body. -
The race motor was also a 4 banger. They were prepped 4 bangers, but still a 4 banger!

Ford Electric Fan?
dasbulliwagen replied to anti-christ-comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the Taurus fan upgrade works better on the 4.0's. The 2.5 rad is different shaped. That said, I put one from a Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ (99-04) moulded to my existing fan shroud, and wired in with a fan controller. I havent done an alt upgrade and have had no issues. Ive noticed too that the fan from a PT cruiser is about the same size as the 2.5 radiator, but have yet to try one for fitment. Might be an option. -
Radiator Options?
dasbulliwagen replied to nicholasdances's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 86 2.8 V6, and all the 2.5 XJ, MJ's use the same radiator. Though the 2.5 and the 2.8 use different fan shrouds due to the 2.5 having an offset waterpump. -

The biggest thing to make any parts store good, is the poeple there and how its managed. If all the stars align, then you get a good store, but if not, then it all goes to pot. And with the amount of turnover most of these places have, that can change on a day to day basis. Ive seen this working at the dealership trying to get aftermarket parts, one store will be in out parts guys favor, but then a management or advisor change happens and then they stop going there and try somewhere else till they get it right again. Mostly what I'm saying is its not really a chain brand that makes a store good, its the poeple that run it.

I know they arent 16's, but The 2005 Up Chrysler LX cars, the 300, the charger and the Magnum come with 17" steelies that have the right bolt pattern, backspacing and hub size and I have seen them on other forums being used on XJ's. The basic 17 inch is a bullet hole type wheel. If you want to go 18 inch find a set of steelies from the police Chargers and Magnums, they have a nice looking 5 spoke pattern, and look even better with the stock 5 spoke hubcaps. I plan on finding a set of these for myslef at some point in the future.

Still havent done much to the truck lately. I did finally take some door panel pics to show how thet turned out painting them black. I did them with the Krylon Fusion Paint and they have held up pretty well. Beyond that, all Ive been doing is driving it, as is eveidenced by it turning over 350,000 miles! Ive been using it regulary to haul scrap off for recycling, which has allowed me to buy a nice new Hobart welder and Argon tank setup. And the other day it blew a hole in one of the heater hoses, so I replaced all the heater hoses yesterday and put in some new coolant.... good to go again. here's how the door panels started. Here they are after a couple years or so of use. here's the big moment!

To look for rear axles, try www.car-part.com . You might even be able to find an MJ AMC-20. You could also search for the right Ford 8.8 or dana 44 this way. I hear the Isuzu Trooper has a good Dana 44 under it, but it is 6 bolt lug pattern.

A search on some of the larger forums, like www.naxja.org should bring up some options like the supra trans. Seems I remember a thread about someobne adapting that trans to a Jeep.
-
I adapted one from a Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 99-04. I used 2- 2.8 V6 fan shrouds cut and epoxied onto the fan unit to fit over the radiator. Ive noticed too, but havent tried a fan setup from a PTcruiser. It is about the right size for the 2.5-2.8 radiator. You will also need to get a fan controller that has an adjustable temperature switch to turn the fan on and off. Some controllers have a soft start built into them so that when the fan comes on, there isnt a huge amp pull on the electrical system. These controllers can cost anywhere from $40 on up depending on what you get and can be bought from any speed shop, Summit, Jegs, etc. The benefit to this is to lessen the drag on the engines rotation. It takes a few horsepower to turn the fan all the time, thus eliminating that drag will free up a little power.

I was wrong. Mine is not the DNR one. Mine is the "Electrinic Tuning" version. It has the AMC logo, and the "electronic tuning" is in the script you mentioned. It doesnt have the slides, it has knobs for the bass, treble, balance and fade. I didnt get to take a pic, but if you still want the pic, let me know and Ill go out there tommorow and take some for you.

Replacement For A 2.5 Tb?
dasbulliwagen replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The throttle body swap is only for the multi point injected 2.5's starting in 91. There is nothing available for the TBI 2.5 of 86-90. I had thought about looking into a 2 barrel GM throttle body, seeing if the sensors had similar voltage sweeps to be able to be read by the renix computer, and if the stock fuel pump would work with it. This option may have to be combined with an aftermarket intake manifold as well though.... maybe someday Ill need to look into this. -
I have one of these in my truck. It came out of an 86 XJ Waggy. It plugged right into my 87. All I had to do was add speakers, as all of the wiring was allreadythere in my originally radio delete truck. Ill try to get some pics tommorow if I can remember.

Saw a pretty nice, all black short bed MJ in Dellroy, Ohio tonight about 8PM going into a conveinience store. I think it maybe had 31's, and maybe a budget boost with tube bumpers front and rear. This is out in MVUSSE's country, but I don't remember him having one like this. I was in the area for my wifes grandfathers funeral. Is this anyone we know? Didnt get to stop and leave a card.

Heater Box Mounting Mod
dasbulliwagen replied to BryGuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine did this as well, I think I used a little two part epoxy on the plastic side before screwing them back in to keep them in place. No problems, and less work. -
MJ Trade for XJ? Getting out of the MJ game....MN peeps....
dasbulliwagen replied to lexluthier72's topic in The Pub
Another good place to post for a trade might me in the right section of naxja.org, or in greatlakes4x4.com. You might find a better XJ trade there. Many of the better XJ guys would love to get their hands on an MJ. -
Other Comanche only parts would include the rear fender flares, and the interior peices behind the seat and up the B-pillars if there are any that are any good.

MJ #3 an 88 4cyl 4sp 2wd ultra miler.... Tell me more!
dasbulliwagen replied to 89MJComanche's topic in The Pub
I agree. They may be fairly rare, but they are not collectable..... at least not yet. 10-20 years from now.... maybe. The rarity in this case does not jusify a higher price, mostly due to the number of cherkees still out there. In a time when you can buy a running driving cherokee for $1500, nobody is willing to pay any more for the truck version. Its just a sad truth, but one I'm OK with due to the low prices for stuff to fix them up. -
I think that you are over thinking this. How many times has Jeep been passed around over its lifetime? A BUNCH! That doesnt make them any less Jeep or any more Chysler, or Daimler, or Fiat.... its still a Jeep, an American company, and it always will be. Getting hung up on current ownership is stupid. It doesnt mean anything anymore. Maybe it should, but it really doesnt. Get what you want to and be happy!
