  1. And power steering deosnt rob horsepower at speed like the AC compressor does. When mine kicks in, you KNOW it. It drags the engine down noticably. But I love having it here in the south.
  2. Youve never seen a long bed? Here are a couple of horrible pics for you to gander at. don't mind the rear end up in the air. I just had it sitting like that with it spring over but not bolted down and no front springs, sitting on bumpstops to be able to move it right after swapping the axles to my 87..... it is back to normal height now.
  3. If it doesnt have power steering , I think they still have an Idler pulley in that place that is the same diameter as the power steering pulley so it really shouldnt matter. I converted mine to AC and power steering. My pics arent the greatest, but maybe youll get something from them. I hope it helps.
  4. I didnt think they still used the 3.0 in 98, but after looking it up on Chrysler tech connect, it does appear to have been an option. I agree with the wiper cowl removal. it really isnt bad to remove. Also, just for your information, the clockspring on that model has a lifetime replacement warranty from the dealer. So if your horn ever stops working, or your cruise control stops working, you can take it in for a new free clockspring. I have probably replaced a hundred of them. Good luck.
  5. I grew up with parents not able to help me with vehicle stuff, so all I had or could afford was junk, and living in Michigan, meant it was rusty junk. Working on those cars taught me more than I could ever have imagined. I started with a 64 VW Beetle and a repair manual. The rest was up to me. It just snowballs from there until you start making your own parts with all the tools youve accumulated over the years, and sometimes look forward to the challenge of taking another ragged out car and making it good again. There will be blood sweat and maybe tears, and definitely beers, but it all works out in the end. Good luck, and let us know what you end up doing. Oh, and don't get a toyota, those guys are just pricks. don't be a prick, get a Jeep!
  6. If youre looking for a reliable daily driver, you need to buy something that you won't want to modify. My first reliable daily driver I bought 12-13 years ago and still have it, and would still not be afraid to drive it anywhere on a moments notice. Its a base model 97 Hyundai Accent. Theres not much to it, and nothing avilable if I wanted to.... thats good because I too have had the bug to modify everything I had up to that point. Keep your project as a project and keep your daily as a daily and all will be happy.
  7. I think this needs clarified.... JK rubi shocks will work for a small lift with minor mods. The Stock base JK shocks are only an inch longer than OEM MJ shocks... I have these on mine with about 1 1/2" lift over 2wd original and they are just barely long enough. Just so ya know.
  8. I noticed whn I did my AC conversion, that the fan was a little sticky, so I oiled it before reinstalling. But usually, high load resistance in a motor will cause the resistor to go bad, and if left long enough then the motor eventually burns out. Like was said, check your powers at the resistor and with switch on high, check power at the fan connector. This should tell you whats wrong.... probably needs both.
  9. Those Goodyear Wrangler Radials are still being made and sold.... I think by Wal-Mart. I see them all the time at work, and I know someone who recently bought a set. I wouldnt buy them though, every time I see them, they are junk.
  10. Do you have any pics of the 2.5 badge?? I would love to see if this would be something for my truck.
  11. I can't remember who it was, but I think the owner of the truck posted on here that this was going to happen. I have the shows recording on DVR just for this reason. Though I usually just fast forward through them because it is like watching an infomercial with the way they do things. Seems more like they are selling products rather than doing any real tech. My 2 cents. I am curious to see the results on the Comanche though!
  12. No pics, but in the last two weeks, Ive done 2- 1000 lb loads of stump grindings, and several trips full of garbage and or scrap metal.
  13. I have seen posts elsewhere of ZJ seats adapted to an XJ, but I couldnt tell you where.... maybe www.naxja.org I'm not sure. A search over there should bring something up.
  14. Ive never been impressed by the Commanders. They are just a rebodied WK with even more weight on an already heavy vehicle. If theyre going to do a truck it needs to be a smaller one like the old MJ, so that it doesnt compete as much with the Rams. That J12 concept fits the bill pretty close. Now if they build it, they just need to make it affordable, (starting well under $20,000) and it will sell great. But knowing the expectations we have, theres no way it will start that low. I am hopefull though that we will one day see another Jeep truck.
  15. Someone mentioned the cam position sensor. I have seen similar model years have the internal housing bearing go bad enough to cause the sensor wheel to jump around and cause a bad misfire, but is wasnt usually just on a single cylinder like yours. Take the little black cover off the top and wiggle the shaft around by hand to see how much play it has. You can also run it and watch it move around and cause the misfire at different RPM's if this is your problem. The only fix if this is it, is a new cam sensor/ oil pump drive housing (distributor). Good luck.
  16. In my opinion, and with being a dealer tech and going to Chrysler tech centers for training, I see these new pickup concepts as guaging opinion for the next gen of Wrangler production that is due out in the next 2-3 years. They won't do anything like a truck until then if they do it at all. And with the new leadership at Chrysler, I see it as much more of a possibilty now than I did in the past. There are some real enthusiasts in the company leadership now which is good for us... so hopefully they will get something like this J12 pushed through. Our chances to see one are better now than they have been in years. Time will tell. This J12 is the second similar concept theyve shown, this one being much more realistically put together than the Nukizer, and also hugely more realistic than the FC concept.... that thing would never pass crash testing for frontal impacts these days. All I can do right now is keep my hopes up for seeing a true midsize/ compact truck Jeep truck again.
  17. I too have the Mossberg 500 that holds 8 shells with the pistol grip. I also have a Berretta 3032 Tomcat with a broken frame, and am in the market for a Bersa Thunder 380.
  18. There are a few gems out there in the reality world, but they are few and far between. Ax Men has been great this year. Shelby Stanga is a good enough reason to watch that show just by himself. Deadliest Catch has been good the last few years also. The cinematography aspect of that show has increased greatly over the years. Some of the shots they get are amazing, and the editing is spot on. Ice Road Truckers, I mainly watch because I think Lisa is hot. And one of my favorites for the last two years has been An Idiot Abroad. The show is on the Science channel for some reason, but highlights the trials and tribulations of a guy who does not like interacting with people and who does not like traveling. They send him around the world and abuse him every week... its hilarious! I too was raised on TV, as was my mother. She will sometimes have three DVR's recording while watching a 4th show. Shes nuts, but what can you do? Oh well, thats my 2 cents.
  19. Jim is Comancheclub's Yoda!
  20. found it.... heater control valve was the violet line, it was not hooked up.
  21. Followed the lines, found the blue vent line attached to the violet line coming from the HVAC box. Now I need to know where the violet line attaches to.
  22. This is for a guy I work with on his 87 MJ Chief, short bed, 4x4, AW4, bucket seat, floor shift. He wants to keep it stock original working. The 4x4 light won't go off. We checked the elec switch and its working... getting vacuum all the time, so we thought it was the transfer case vac switch... replaced it and light is still on. Does anyone have a color coded diagram of the routing? I did a search and came up with nothing. Pretty sure Ive seen one before, but can't find it right now. Thanks.
  23. Youll need a low pressure inline pump designed for carbureted vehicles. You may also want to get a pressure regulator to go with it. These are available from most parts stores, hot rod shops, VW buggy shops... etc.
  24. The 3.8 may be a 90 degree engine, I don't know, but I do know that it has the 60 degree bellhousing. Jeepcomj has done a 3.8 swap, look him and his build thread up. From what I hear, it eats AX5's for breakfast, but a built A904 should hold up to it fine.
