    XJ Brakes

I just replaced the brakes on my wifes XJ. I used the Duralast gold Max ceramics DGC477 $51 and the duralast gold high carbon rotors $49. We tow a camper a few times a year and she puts on a lot of miles. We got approximately 60,000 out of them in two years before I changed them. I thought it was steel to steel but once I had them apart the pads were only half worn but they did do a number on the rotors. They wore pretty deep into the rotor but fairly evenly. If you you were using semi metallics you're going to ship your pants when you step on your brakes after swapping. Also very little dust, if you wash them a few times a year you'll never see it. Make sure you adjust or replace your rear brakes at the same time for best performance.
  2. Never really noticed. But I was running a 1994 XJ ecu.
  3. Where are you located, I have a good AX-5 out of an 87 MJ.
  4. Budget boost poly lift spacers. Generally in 3/4", 1-3/4",2" and 3". Google poly lift spacers for XJ, you'll find all you need.
  5. Actually in Fairfield CT.
  6. It's nice that they have detail shots of the front suspension on that MJ. Now l know what l need to do for the front of my 2wd XJ.
  7. Also notice it has the dizzy at the back, not the front like an AMC engine. Beautiful truck.
  8. Oh, and it runs 12's in the 1/4 mile.
  9. Google Cherokee XJ-R A few guys built a cherokee to do autocrossing and Lemons type racing. If any body would have info I imagine it would be those guys.
  10. Stock header isn't that restrictive on a stock motor. Just get one like the one pictured and you'll be good to go. Or just have the one on it welded up. I have put over 100k on a welded up stock manifold.
  11. If I remember correctly the 2.5 manifold has a donut shape mating surface so it doesn't need one.
  12. Nice rig. Shouldn't have to much trouble with a 91. I'd inspect the brakes, torque the lug nuts, check the fluids and check for leaks. See how it drives locally after getting it up to temperature and you should be good to go.
  13. Exactly what it says. I have two trucks and I don't have a full set of factory type screws in them. Even if somebody could photograph a set of them against a ruler wouldhelp and maybe I could find something that would work out of my five gallons of XJ screws. Thanks
  14. Is the 4.0 throttle body going to flow enough air for a super charger?
  15. Oh, and my highest mileage original nileage engine still running has 450k on it. Never been opened up since new.
  16. I run regular 10-30 castrol oil in all my 4.0's no matter what the mileage. I just put a 275k 96 engine into my daughters boyfriends 98 XJ this weekend. Hooked it all up and turned the key and it started like I just turned it off. It had been sitting for 4 years. Repowered another XJ this past winter with an engine that had been sitting severl years. Cranked that one over several times with out the coil wire then fired it right up. Don't waste your money on expensive oil.
  17. If the seats are in good shape they'll be comfy. The front axle should be non disconnect with larger ujoints. The 89 limited I took apart had a D35 rear. Eagle ended up with the front axle and drivetrain and I think the seats too.
  18. In 89 it was probably closer to 1%. I have never seen a Dana 44 in any Cherokee except 87 Wagoneers with the tow package. I've had 3 of them so far. All dark blue. I have seen two more 87's locally that have 44's that were gray Wagoneers.
  19. Good luck finding the correct radiator hoses if you don't have them. Easier to make an upper hose out of two 4.0 upper hoses.
  20. The ZJ waterpump won't work on the MJ 4.0. Not enough room between the engine and radiator. The ZJ/YJ/TJ fan hub sticks out farther than the XJ/MJ hub.
  21. Everybody should have two 92's, I do! Although nowheres near as nice as Don's.
  22. I flat towed an 89 MJ from Woodbridge VA to Winsted CT with a 1998 XJ 404 miles. The MJ didn't have an engine or transmission in it so the front end was light and high so it had no caster. It death wobbled at any speed over 40 mph. I dragged it right up I-95 to I-87 to I-84 to RT-8. 7.5 hours down 14 hrs back. I didn't have a plate on it but I did have magnetic lights on the truck. All it cost me was food and fuel. Also, I did it on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. It was nerve wracking but no kittens or nuns were killed.
  23. It'll be fine if just driving home and to weld shop.
  24. It has the smoker vents and pre 97 door catches but has the post 96 door panels. If it started life as a 2 door they cut the B pillar out of a pre 97 4 door. I always thought it would be cool to take a 2 door B pillar and move it up to a four door front door and make a panel delivery.
