Vehicle part question
FrankTheDog replied to DracoSedentis's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wranglers did get the HO in 91 just like the rest of the jeep line. I have the complete wiring harness from one with computer, dash and all sensors to convert my 89 wrangler over. -

1986-1990 throttle bodies are interchangeable. Shouldn’t be to hard to find one. I have one off a 1988 that worked good when it was run last. How many miles does your MJ have? Where are you located? -
Price shipped to 06021?

help with identifying axles
FrankTheDog replied to motiusclyde's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It really doesn’t look all that bad. Yes, some things are hack but overall it doesn’t look to bad to make it a streetable wheeler. Get a set of TJ flares, stock ones won’t work anymore and stock TJ flares can be had cheap. Put a set of adjustable control arms up front to position the axle correctly. Stock 96-01 XJ 8.25’s can be had cheap or get a KJ rear axle or Explorer 8.8 with discs. KJ and Exploder axles can be had with 3.73 or 4.10 gears for better performance, then you would have to find a front or regear the one you have. The 3.55’s will work for now. There are write ups in tech on this. Get swaybar links and a quality trackbar. Clean up the bob on the bed. Remove or fix height sensing valve for rear brakes, there are several write ups on that too. Post up pics of the complete truck so we have a better feeling for the overall condition. -
I have had good luck with going to yards that have the part listed and being able to get it. Bought a few of the correct color parts for my salvaged 2000 XJ that way. I didn’t know you needed a receipt for salvage inspection and went back a year after I bought a fender to ask for one and they were new owners and said they don’t have the XJ anymore. I showed them that they still had parts listed from it and all I really needed was a receipt with vin on it. So they went and got the vin number and I got my receipt.

ECM Relearning....How long should this take?!

I know on my 92 when my speedo wasn’t working it would die at stops. 92 is all electric speedo renix is mechanical speedo with an electrical sending unit and mechanical drive on the tcase. Try replacing sending unit on tcase. -
Stock MJ shackles are 1 inch longer than XJ shackles providing 1/2 inch of more lift. Shackles only lift one end of the spring therefore lifting half the amount.

The beauty of a 92 is that you can use 92-96 AW4’s and they’ll bolt and plug right in. Shouldn’t be to hard to find.

AX15 - Gear Oil vs. Motor Oil (again)
FrankTheDog replied to youngfred's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I put Mobil 1 10-30 High Mileage into my AX15 that had 175k on it and drove it another 100k with no trouble before I sold it. Never even checked the level in the trans that whole time. 6 years. Just changed out the oil in the 2000 XJ with AX5 with Castrol Syntec High Mileage 10-30 and it shifts and drives normally for me. -
I never understood why any jeep guy would be a purist. Jeep never had a problem putting other automakers engines and transmissions in their product. AMC and Buick engines in Kaiser Jeeps. Chevy and Renault engines in XJ’s. TH400’s and TF727’s and TF999 in SJ’s and CJ’s. Plus there’s more I’m sure.

I can't complain, all I did to it was to put the 44 in, refresh the cooling system and did the front brakes three times and rear once. One alternator one set of second hand wheel bearings and a 4 wheel drive transmission and transfer case and front end to convert it to 4wd. I paid $500 for it and maybe put $2,000 into it over 6 years.

I daily drove my 92 MJ from 4/2011-6/2017 adding 100k to it. Only time it left me stranded was when the spider gears in the D35 popped leaving a stop sign gently. I only had it on the road a month and I put a Dana 44 in it and was never stranded again. Only reason I stopped was because it needed major rust repair.

is any one a machinist??
FrankTheDog replied to DirtyDeeds's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Draw up a print and post it. Size of bolt pattern and wether you need through holes or threaded holes and diameter of throttle body bores. -
1999 is a good year. Wifes has 243k on it with only minor issues. Mostly caused by neglect on part of the previous owner.

When they hand you the box make sure it's the red box that says max ceramic on it. I was really impressed with how well they worked
