  1. is it at least powered through a relay?
  2. might be time for some wraparound protection.
  3. the slow pressure of the pilot bearing puller seemed to so the trick for me. :dunno: be sure to spray in some PB Blaster or other penetrant and let it soak. the jigsaw thing was going to be my next step.
  4. I think I rented my puller from autozone.
  5. if no one here knows, these guys probably do: http://www.ifsja.org/

    Rust

there'd have to be a sliding scale, where "some rust" in Michigan = "rotted out" in Colorado. :rotf:
  7. you just have to host the photos on another site first (photobucket, facebook, etc) and then you can post them here.
  8. back when my 88 was 2wd I ran 30s on stock aluminum rims with no rubbing whatsoever. :D 235s are a hair smaller than 30s.
  9. wear goggles. I've tried it and if it isn't a perfect fit, the grease will spray out back at you. :(
  10. how close are the sway bar parts to the coils? is the track bar in good shape?
  11. I eventually won with a pilot bearing puller (not the slide hammer version, but a gear puller type). if that had failed though, the next step I was going to try was to cut a slice into the side with a sawzall.
  12. if you have stock rims, up to 30" tires can be run with no rubbing and 31s can be run with minimal rubbing (usually just on the lower control arms and that can be fixed with WJ arms from the junkyard). if you have aftermarket rims, then the rules change slightly (eg: 31s will rub on the edges of the flares when turning). don't forget that bigger tires will make your truck feel a bit more sluggish and will change your speedo readings (which can be fixed by swapping in the right speedo gear).
  13. and a time machine rental place?
  14. awesome. just awesome.
  15. just saying that I've used trucks with the 5.0/4.6L range of v8 and have been disappointed every time. :( the 4.6 in my uncle's truck was the worst. it was slow when empty and just plain scary with a little under 3k pounds in and behind it. :ack: just be sure to get the FI 5.8. the older carbed version is atrociously fuel hungry.
  16. I get 2 completely different solenoids in my search. :hmm: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/ ... ing=search
  17. 86 2.5s were external slave. 87-94 2.5s were internal slave.
  18. I'd go with the fuel injected 351
  19. If towing is your goal, I'd avoid the 5.0-sized engines.
  20. the front axle doesn't affect mileage. if it did, ALL 4wd vehicles today would have a disconnect. yet they don't. you need to change the speedo gear so that your speedo is accurate with the taller tires. it's easy and cheap.
  21. I agree. don't forget to check you alignment after the pucks.
  22. there's a reason why it's not here.
  23. if the rears lock up first, they can fishtail the truck around.
