I got them in without these mods, but as soon as I found that they touched, I trimmed off (not hammered) the part of the arm that would have contacted the body and trimmed the shock mount where the arm would have made contact on the axle side. I was just looking for maximum droop. :D
don't know if it's the only hiccup, but one of the late-late model trannys have a completely different location for their CPS so you'll need to mill a spot in the bellhousing for the 88's.
there's an auto-to-manual thread here:

driveshaft lengths are in the driveshaft thread. chances are slim that the yokes will directly swap between a 4.0 and a 2.5/2.8 truck. I believe those spline counts are different.

a bone stock 2.5L/5speed comes with 4.10s and waaaay smaller than 31" tires. My dakota R/T came with a big v8 and 3.92 and 28" tires. heck, the 2.5L/auto Jeeps came with 4.56 gears and tiny tires.
there is nothing wrong with 4.10s and 31s. nothing at all.

please tell me you checked out with just 2 tires and bananas :rotf: My dad and I had 2 tires go bad on the freeway and limped to a Meijer (like a walmart but less evil) and went through check out with 2 tires and a banana (I was hungry). :D
the 3.1 and 3.4 are the ones to look for (mid 90s camaro/firebird or S-10). it's a better block design and will accept all your accessories/exhaust/intake and bolt to the trans. only caveats are that your truck has a mechanical pump on the engine block and so you'll need to add in an inline electrical pump and then your current flywheel will need to be neutrally balanced by a shop (the 3.4 is internally balanced but your 2.8 uses the flywheel as the balancing mechanism).

the AX-5 is the 5spd version of what you have now. found behind 2.5 and 2.8Ls and goes right in. the AX-15 is the bigger brother (found behind 4.0s) and can be swapped in with a special bellhousing (2.5L dakota or I believe Novak or Advanced Adapter makes an aftermarket one).
I wouldn't pay more than 300 for one that was in perfect shape. if I have to buy brakes, then 200. if anything else is needed, than 100. make sure the calipers are there. even if they are bad, the core fee for them is quite high.
I believe he means he wants a level truck rather than a raked look.
