A 242 allows for all-wheel drive on dry pavement without the threat of destruction. If you live where it rains or snows a lot, then the 242 will suit you well.

Full Width Chevy axles? Are they to wide???
Pete M replied to Pollockzrodz's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The tire/wheel/backspacing decision makes more of a difference than axles. I'm running Ford fullsize axles with 33x12.5s on 8" rims with about 4" of backspacing and I'm at 80" overall width. -
Walked over to check that the 3 were still where I parked them. Yup, still there.
-
Why not? I'll just drop it on a superduty frame and go. :D

If the interior stinks, I'd make it a priority to pull up the carpet and check for moisture underneath. :(

BACK WITH NEW SKIN october update
Pete M replied to ricksjeepster's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
It's a bit late, but later model MJs had headrests for the bench. :( -

Nope, I got a zippered hoodie. :D

Over the years I've towed the MJ with a Liberty and a Durango (current model). The MJ likes to push them around. The Waggy by itself just isn't big enough for me. I want a tow vehicle that has a longer wheelbase than the MJ. Plus I've been spoiled by the cavernous space of my minivan. Likely I'm just going to get a 7.3L Excursion, but in the meantime I'll dream of Jeeps. :D

Find some decent condition 4wd MJ leaf packs. They should be good for an inch or so over 2wd leaf packs. If you need a bit more, take the main leaf from your old packs, cut the eyes off, and add it in as an add-a-leaf below your new main.

I assume you mean Grand Wagoneer. It's really more like a Tahoe. Actually, it's even smaller than a Tahoe. Suburbans have a 130" wheelbase, Tahoes are 118", Waggys are only 109" (less than an MJ).

I couldn't take the stock rims so I slapped on some bigger meats. :D I don't care for the paneling either, but I'll live with it until I find a usable side shot of a better rig.

They seem to run about one size off. I ordered a large and probably should have gotten an XL (and I'm not exactly a big guy). So if you're looking for an XL, the XXL might not be that bad.

Yeah, but who want little donuts on their Jeep? Just 30" tires took all the wind out of my 88. 3.54 gears brought it all back (and possibly more). :D
-
That's true. I guess my imagination is picturing something pretty bad if all the windos are broken. I'd just be looking for a frame, drivetrain, dash and full compliment of wiring. I'll provide the body. :D

Get some better tires. :D Snow tires can make all the difference in the world when it's slick out.

I think your pics are too small. :D

I added it to my watch list so I can see what it goes for. Can you keep tabs on the other one too? I just had a wicked idea for it. :D (not that one in particular since it has the 6.0, but I'm curious what one with a completely wasted body goes for)

Take a #2 phillips screw driver with you and do you best to pull up the edges of the carpet to check for moisture underneath. There are a dozen ways for water to get there, but no way for it to escape. Even rust free MJs are susceptible to losing the floors from the inside out.

The search program tries to ignore common words. There's a variable thresh-hold we can set that determines how common of a word is too common. Previously that setting wasn't affecting anything. The bar was always high. Now that it seems to be working, I'll see about setting the bar lower.

I've got a couple thoughts here. Contrary to what it might seem, this isn't Junior High. We're all adults of varying ages (and maturity levels). Some friendly ribbing and banter is fine, but when someone says they don't like it, for the love of flatfenders, STOP IT. I'm not a hall monitor, and yet I feel like it sometimes. The last month seems to be conflict after another, some public, some not. You don't have to like everyone, but you sure better find a way to get along. I almost feel like a Mom, yelling at the kids in the back seat to knock it off and keep their hands on their side of the car. :fool: If someone takes strong offense to something you post, just apologize for it. Publicly or privately, I don't care, but be a man and acknowledge that you may have unknowingly gone over a line. Say it even if you don't mean it. And to those on the other side of a comment, be a man and realize that most of what's posted is not meant to be taken personally. We all have differing types of humor and there's no need to chew someone out when a simple "I didn't really care for that" may suffice. And for those here that aren't a man, well, I really haven't had any of these "personality conflict" issues with the ladies here, so you girls can probably just ignore this and carry on as usual. :D And for the love of willys, KIDS DO VISIT THIS SITE. :fool: Some members browse the pages with their little ones. You may not care, but I do. This is not a frat house. It's not a locker room. It's not your parent's old rumpus room. It's a public forum. At best this is your buddy's garage and you should just go ahead and assume there are kids playing in the yard right next door. We're going to add a new guideline to the Pub by adding a "NSFW" (not safe for work) in the titles. This is not permission to post anything you'd like as long as you have nsfw in the title. This is to label the borderline posts so the guys with the little jeepers can more easily avoid them. To those who may have problems with certain images, Firefox has an add-on called "ad-blocker". In addition to the huge database of ads (that you'll never see again), you can select individual images to remove. If you have a problem with say, an avatar, you just right click it and *poof* it's gone. :D Very handy program to have, but you have to run the Firefox browser to use it. PM me if you have any questions on it. And please, there's no need to apologize to me for anything that's happened thus far. I don't need another dozen PMs waiting for me tonight. Consider this a site-wide amnesty and try not to let things get out of hand next time.

Today was my sister's first snow day since she started teaching in GA. :D She just sent me a pic of the awning outside that collapsed under the snow. If I can figure out how to get it off my phone I'll post it up.

Would a Dana 30 axle from a YJ Wrangler bolt in?
Pete M replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thus far, every ZJ I've seen has been low pinion. But I'm not all that up on ZJ specifics through all years. -
You'll see it once you're in the new forum, but I've moved the thread there and un-locked it. BMJ is on the list and he'll see it there too. This is all temporary and once it is ironed out, I'll be returning everything to normal.

My only comment on this is that many of you that crack jokes could really stand to use the appropriate emoticon afterwords so there's less chance of taking your words seriously. That is all. No wait, one more thing, the white bunny (pictured above) with the sideways head has got to be one of the cutest animals I've ever seen. :D
