Big Ton springs don't necessarily sit any higher than a regular MJ of the same drivetrain (2wd or 4wd). The springs are just a bit stiffer. As mvusse said, the rear springs are the best indicator of Big Ton or not. 4 total leafs = regular 5 total leafs = Big Ton (or a regular set with an AAL)

Yup. 4.0L + manual trans = the sucky 3.07 ratio. If I was going through the effort/cost of swapping axles, I wouldn't even think about anything less than 4.10.

I use lithium grease in a spray can (one with a straw), but pretty much any lube is better than none. I added one to my 88, but just blindly purchased a couple from the store and found one that I could make work. The power of the lift and the angles it's installed at are very important. There are several holes in my hood as I tracked down the sweet spot.

Likely that will mean 3.07. The numbers 30 and 7 seem a bit too low for Dana axles (though I'm no expert). If the tag uses the tooth counts, it'll be somewhere close to 40 and 10 41/10 = 4.10 41/11 = 3.73 39/11 = 3.54 I forget what the 3.07 numbers are.

You wouldn't be the first. :D Pay extra attention to cooling that beast. MJ/XJs have smallish engine bays and radiators, and owners who drop in v8s can have issues keeping them at a decent temp. And welcome! :wavey:

My 87-90 Jeep parts catalog also only mentions the 16, 18 and 23.5 gal tanks. :hmm: Any of you guys with the 13.5 ever run out of gas?

I've now double checked my numbers with the dealership brochures, and there's no mention in any year of a shortbed fuel tank other than the 18 gal.

Probably won't matter. The 35 has structural issues that a good lube won't solve. I'd be looking into replacing it sooner rather than later if I was hauling a huge camper. :thumbsup:

There was only one size tank available under shortbeds (18 gal) and I only know of stock-size replacements. :(

Looks like one. The gi-normous rusty intermediate plate is a good indicator of an AX series transmission. :thumbsup:
