  1. I'm so totally confused. :hmm: What part of the HO system are you using?
  2. I ran the big driveshaft for years without issues. Just make sure you're shortening the non-isolator end (i.e. keeping the rubber isolator) and when reinstalled, the rubber isolator stays at the axle end.
  3. Ah. I might try that on the 90 when it gets warmer out. :D (You know, when global warming finally kicks in to free us from this ice age.)
  4. car-part.com might be helpful for trying to find the whole harness. Try searches for the engine block or other 2.5L-specifc stuff and call to see if the harness is intact.
  5. I want to see this: :D
  6. I believe he's referring to taking an MJ main leaf, cutting the eyes off, and putting it between the top and 2nd leafs on your truck. Like this:
  7. Meaning your truck was 2wd before? Your 2wd driveshaft should work just fine for cutting down (assuming there's nothing wrong with it).
  8. Doesn't really matter either way. Swapping a 4.0L in essentially involves gutting the entire truck, so go with which ever era presents itself first (although if you want a stick, 87-89.5 will have the inferior peugeot and should be avoided). It's more important to find an XJ in excellent running condition (except for the body of course).
  9. Just so were keeping this straight, the terminology is: -lower numbers are referred to as a higher gear ratio -higher numbers are a lower gear ratio The terms "greater" and "bigger" are not used (and are confusing my poor brain). I didn't invent it, it's just the way it is.
  10. I have a long 21mm socket and I still wouldn't call it "easy". I also took the opportunity to shave a bit of metal off where the arms and the axle parts contacted. That truck isn't likely to see much offroading, but it made me feel better to know I've got maximum axle droop. :D
  11. I think it needs some paint. :D I love ambitious projects. Are you shaving off the lower corner of the front fascia to match the inner wheelwell?
  12. Specs? Bigger pics? :brows:
  13. Alt or battery. Maybe both if the alt went bad. Same symptoms as when my alt suddenly went from a ~180 amp to a ~30 amp with an internal failure. Most car stores will check both for free.
  14. Why do I like mine? It's rare, it's strong, it bolts right in. :D It is the same width as any other MJ rear axle.
  15. Send me a PM with your address and I'll mail some out to you.
  16. I would call the manufacturer on that one. They would know for sure. My guess is POR goes on first since you need it against the steel to be effective.
  17. I would get the 3.55 Dana 44 and never look back. Then I'd locate a matching front axle (they are everywhere since it was the most common ratio in XJs). Jeep should have never used the 3.08 ratio. I got better mileage once I swapped to 3.55s in my 88.
  18. Actually, I do believe the '86 2.5 was rated higher in HP, but still a hair lower in TQ than the 2.8. :D I can't seem to find all the numbers though. :hmm: Where did I see them...
  19. Check with advancedadapters.com I know they were working on an AX-15 kit, maybe they have a 3550 kit too. :dunno:
  20. If someone wanted to compile a list of the general changes over the years (don't get too carried away), we could put that in the DIY forum. Problem is that there is still some disagreement amongst the members about things like the np-242, available gear ratios, parts used during change-over years, etc. Very few rules are written in stone because of the ease of interchangeability and that the "rule book" seemed to be thrown out the window back in the day at the factory. :shake:
  21. As Jeepco said, the "41 11" are the important number there. 41 is the number of teeth on the ring gear, 11 is the number on the pinion. 41/11=3.73 Something in the back of my head says TJ 44 have different gears, but I could be thinking of ZJ 44s (with the aluminum housings). Best to find someone to confirm that.
  22. Exactly, rather than old diesels where the fuel injection was completely mechanical in nature(from timing and duration, all controlled mechanically via the IP(injection pump)), which had equal length lines running to each cylinder to an injector nozzle, this system uses electric injectors just like MPFI gassers, with a high pressure common rail feeding all the injectors(like 23,000psi high pressure). The next generation of 2.8L VM engine uses piezoelectric injectors and even higher pressures, something on the order of 36,000psi or so(currently sold in the KK overseas) More like Italian :fool: I was thinking more along the lines that Jeep was German-owned at the time. :D
  23. The TJ/00XJ/01XJ axle will work fine for up to maybe 3" of lift. Beyond that I'd look for something high-pinion. If the XJ/MJ had a 4.0L, the axles will likely have 3.08 or 3.55 gears. If it's the 2.8L v6, then there's a chance it'll have 4.10s. Yes similar drivetrains will swap directly between longbeds and shortbeds (except the rear driveshaft). The 2.5L/5-speed XJ will likely have 4.10s.
  24. That list would be huuuuuuge if it were complete. Occasionally they changed the colors of the wires, apparently just for the heck of it. :dunno:
