  1. guess I shoulda clicked on the link. the XJ stuff won't work on an MJ.
  2. x2. have one on my 88 4.0 and i like it. not too loud, but definitely not a stocker. :D
  3. yup. eventually in the mid 90s Jeep offered a sealed rear output t-case. I would pull the rear shaft and use plastic bags and lots of duct tape to keep the oil in the t-case. Cover the opening with a piece of the plastic and wrap the crap outta it with tape to keep it there. It's not rocket science and it'll totally prevent any possible damage to the Jeep if something else is wrong with the $250 lump of steel.
  4. get a pro to show you how and then get lots and lots of practice on scrap metal.
  5. opinions vary (and can be quite passionate). a quick search should bring up past discussions.
  6. that's a good sign, but isn't conclusive since they rot from the inside-out. :(
  7. MY DREAM TRUCK! I WILL have one someday. Prices are still pretty cheap, relatively speaking of course. 15 years ago there was a half dozen of these in the Want-Ad, and even one at my corner gas station for sale, going rate, in running condition was ~$500. I looked at a few, then other things came up before I found the *right* one. see, that's not how you're supposed to do it. You're supposed to buy the first one you see, and then start looking for better ones.
  8. Jeeps have a way of transforming people into a mechanical wizard. own one long enough and you'll be amazed at what you'll know how to do.
  9. 2 things I remember from that recent topic that you should check: the big vacuum hose that goes to the booster could be bad (causing a massive vacuum leak that stalls the engine) or the ground behind the drivers side taillight could be bad (the fuel pump and the brake lights both ground there). how much fuel in the tank?
  10. she got a sister? :brows:
  11. I skipped ahead in the video. :D nothing new happens past the like 5 second mark.
  12. nothing in the video says it was perfectly good. :D that's one of the best uses for a rear-damaged XJ. (right up there with being an MJ-donor) :brows:
  13. For us lazy sods ;) Link? http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=904488 I just didn't want anyone to think I was pimping another board on here... Linking to another forum to help out a fellow Jeeper is never considered pimping. :D
  14. If I remember this right, the size is cast in on the inside of the rim. Also, we have a classifieds for want ads.
  15. MJ rear driveshafts are about a foot longer than XJ rear shafts, so you'll either need the proper junkyard MJ shaft, get a custom one built, or have your current 2wd shaft cut down to size (which is what I did on mine)
  16. the output shafts are different. to convert a 2wd AX-15 trans to 4wd, you'd have to tear apart the 2wd trans and install the backend parts from a 4wd trans.
  17. so nice and clean... check under the carpets and keep it away from the salt.
  18. very nice. needs paint. :D going with baja flares for the back? looks pretty good as-is so I'm not sure if it's necessary on an MJ.
  19. :needpics:
  20. I dropped the pan 4 or 5 times before mine was finally sealed. :ack: a nicked seal, not enough sealant, and impatience to not wait for the sealant to dry are among the reasons I had to start over. try squirting even more sealant up there in every corner and where the seal halves' touch each other. and if it were me I'd yank the new seal out for inspection. they are pretty cheap and very delicate.
  21. car-part.com might help find you some parts in the junkyards near you.
  22. don't remember if I've run a bosch so I'll just say that the more you spend on an oil filter, the better it is.
  23. what's the mechanical damage?
