  1. My 88 makes the same snap crackle popping noises. :dunno: I don't know what it is, but I doubt it's oil dripping. Originates from about the middle of the block. My guess was that it's the aluminum head contracting at a different rate than the steel block. But then again, no other renix Jeep I've witnessed makes that noise. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
  2. absolutely you could get a 5spd eliminator.
  3. is that a canadian thing?
  4. what type of insurance doesn't care if you exceed the manufacturers specs?
  5. your insurance won't cover anything if they find out you were over the gcwr and something bad happens.
  6. I still think that with that much weight, a weight-distributing hitch should be on the short list (and don't forget an auxiliary trans cooler if you don't have one already). don't forget to include people in the total weight. :D the GCWR means everything that didn't roll off the assembly line.
  7. turning off the CAD with a locker inside the front diff may have some very bad consequences to the locker. Even if it worked as you plan, the torque steer is immense. I do not recommend it. :(
  8. max payload for any MJ except the Metric Tons was roughly 1500 lbs. that's the maximum your front and rear springs can hold up, so adding 500 on to the bumper (as far from your front springs as you can get) would drastically reduce the amount you can carry. A weight-distributing hitch will help out immensely if you plan to tow the maximum (which i wouldn't even attempt without an all new braking system).
  9. no. I'm just reusing that particular vacuum line in a different location (I don't have the stock airbox in the 88).
  10. you might bee right. I think the map in my 88 is actually using that line (don't ask, it's all custom routed and very confusing).
  11. been a while since I've had one, but isn't it in the fuse box?
  12. same animal, yes.
  13. start with a propane torch (not lit of course). just turn it on and follow each one around the engine bay. when the engine idle speed changes, you've found a leak. :D Oh, and I'd begin with the line that heads into the vacuum reservoir in the front bumper.
  14. map sensor line.
  15. Dually  Indeed. More info on that one? just another random photo from the internet. :(
  16. james, what did you have in your front diff at the time?

    :waving: welcome!
  18. that is odd. seems like it should at least be consistent. :dunno: have you tried erasing the cookies on your computer so they reset?
  19. ha! I knew that truck looked familiar! :clapping:
  20. but how else would I know that in a pinch I can use duct tape to fashion a bridge or a cannon? They hit the tailgate thing twice. plus, if it were true that dropping a tailgate would improve performance, don't you think the auto manufacturers would do that in a heartbeat? seems a lot cheaper than a hybrid motor.
  21. if the 4 banger wranglers are the same as the 6 cyl, then the clocking is in the trans, not the t-case, and so the t-case will be the same as a comparable year XJ. be careful to check the input shaft length and that it'll fit in the t-case.
  22. Actually, the mythbusters showed that tailgate-up has the least resistance. :D
  23. in my experience, exhaust manifold bolts either back out when they should stay put, or stay put when you want them out. :dunno:
  24. orrrrrr...... you could simply lock it over and never have to think about it again... :dunno:
