More C.R.A.P. examples. I went through the same thing with "running hot" indications and it turned out to be the temp sensor. Two C.R.A.P. sensors in a row from two different C.R.A.P. manufacturers indicated false high readings on the gauge. Duralast and the O'Reillys junk counterpart IIRC. Nothing but OEM spares now for me.

Not possible unless you can find an axle with 2" dia. or less tubes and use something like fiberglass mono leaf rear springs. A SOA lift using a real axle and leaf springs will net at least 5.5-6.5 inches over your current height.

Unless your state requires emission testing on 25+ year old vehicles, bypass it. They tend to clog up with age.........

He already did.

Probably too late now, but pull the head first.

For me, yes. It's stronger and more versatile. -
quick axle swap question
HOrnbrod replied to vandior2001's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Quick answer - it's a weak problematic POS. Not a good swap. Not even for $50. -
Anyone have those stupid safety hammers in their cars?

Track bar suggestions
HOrnbrod replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like the Teraflex bar is the only one that mounts directly w/o drilling or using a drop bracket, and has the turnbuckle. -

HOrnbrod replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't think the one you linked would work without the bracket because it has a bushing at each end , unless they make an adapter .. It's for a ZJ rear - just read the fine print. -

And here's one w/o the drop bracket which you really don't need or want w. 3" or less lift. I didn't know these existed. https://www.amazon.com/Rough-Country-Forged-Adjustable-0-4-inch/dp/B01MUABAIA/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1489346657&sr=8-18&keywords=jeep+cherokee+adjustable+track+bar -

Also, I think the Teraflex track bar is the only one for XJs/MJs that has the turnbuckle. There are several of them made for JKs, but I don't know of any others for our rigs. Do you? -
Track bar suggestions
HOrnbrod replied to Strokermjcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Everyone's missing this. I use the Teraflex 1743022, advertised for 3"-4" of lift. I'm about 2-1/2" and it's nearly bottomed out. It'll go to 4+ inches easily if you need it. Other pluses is that you don't have to drill out the mounting hole which I didn't want to do, the bushing is available for replacement should you ever need one, and it's super easy to readjust with even incremental changes in lift hight. A minus is that it's expensive now, like double the cost when I bought mine. But it's beefy, well made as all Teraflex products are, and worth the $$ IMO. There's lots of adjustment with the supplied sleeve, and the threads are the same as the HD ZJ track bars. So if you want to go higher a longer sleeve wouldn't be that difficult. -

Agree, Dirk has been around for a long time. He's very knowledgeable, always willing to help, and knows what works well for your requirements and not so well. Recommend giving him a call for sure. -
What's the year of manufacture and where do you live? Impossible to guesstimate worth accurately w/o that info........

Can anyone identify this wiring harness?
HOrnbrod replied to Zambeezy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got the impression something was missing in the TCU - AW4 cable connection when I read the original post. :hmm: Anyhow, the white connector has a lock tab to prevent it from accidentally disconnecting; maybe it's broken? Suggest plugging it back in tightly and securing it with a couple of tie wraps so it doesn't happen again. -

Your original post: Back to the beginning. Were both the black and white male connectors plugged into their respective female connectors originally? -

HOrnbrod replied to Zambeezy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the gray connector was disconnected the transmission wouldn't shift w/o having one of those aftermarket manual shifters installed. But even those have to be wired to the AW4 internal solenoids (S1-S3 on the wiring diagram) to control shifting. Are you manually shifting with the floor (or column) gear shifter now? If so, you won't have 1st gear or O/D. Where's the other half of the gray connector going to the transmission? MIA? -

I believe so. Tag says "30-43LE" That's the designator for the 2WD AW4. Unless someone has done some creative wiring your TCU is not connected to the transmission. Or your NSS either. Can you supply a picture of the white/gray connector pins? They should look like the below: -

The white/gray one is for the TCU-to-AW4 cable. How is your AW4 shifting with the solenoids disconnected from the TCU? You do have an AW4 auto? -
What Minuit knows about stock Jeep radios
HOrnbrod replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Nice run down - thanks. The 82300393 CD player I'm using is a bit deeper in structure and I had a hell of a time stuffing it in there. I do want the external amp in that cavity, so will be looking to find a smaller footprint amp than the 90W KTP-445U amp you used. Probably will be a 2-channel unit with a little less wattage. -
Then you have a great place Ben. You guys will have the place pristine and beautiful in no time. You're almost there now. Congrats!
