What Minuit knows about stock Jeep radios

What's a bubble button? -
Link works now. That's generic part from you know where. I went through a couple of Crown XJ/MJ-specific power antennas from Team Cherokee at first, both lasted just a few months. Even TC quit selling them when they finally realized they were junk. I'm not saying don't buy that, but don't buy that. Even a crusty OEM used antenna from a wreck will be better than.

Your link doesn't play for me.

Mopar "Made in China" parts is a fairly recent "innovation" for older parts production. Have seen quite a few lately. It's probably a perfectly fine part equal to one made in the USA or elsewhere, and performs just as well and last just as long. But I don't like it and won't use them. Goes against the grain. Know what I mean Vern?

You would have to run a separate harness for the VSS signal, 12V, and ground, and figure out how to mount the HO speedo in the Renix case that would look right. That would be a real good mod for the Renix people.

I'm aware of that. Recently bought a NOS MAP sensor on Ebay - Made in China stamped on the box. Returned it to the seller (a dealership) and got my $$ back. As above, "time's getting short". Stock up on real NOS parts while you can.....
-
Well, that's all great guys. May your good luck continue. As long as I still have a choice and availability is there, I won't be buying any C.R.A.P.s. But I do realize time's getting short to still have choices for our old trucks.

Makes sense Dirty.

It's a stupid simple install. Mine was nearly all PnP, only had to source a $5 bracket as I recall. The antenna relay was there, the antenna electrical harness plugged in, the antenna cable plugged in, a new fender pad and cap nut came with the antenna, and the existing factory radio I had at the time had the antenna signal on the correct radio connector pin. The problem now is it'll be tough to find a NOS 96 XJ and below power antenna. I'm sure there's some in the yards, but they're at least 21 years old now. Glad I grabbed a couple of NOS antennas when I put mine in years ago.

I voted "Something else". 4.0L HO and AW4 is the best option, but not an OBD2. You could p/u a 95 or below XJ and do the same as you could with an OBD2 XJ for probably less $$. OBD1 is simpler to work on, replacement and go fast parts are still fairly plentiful; can't see any advantage going OBD2. I've had several, and prefer OBD1. And yes, you'll like it better.

Agree 100%. I think THIS one qualifies.

Too bad we don't have a "Ridiculously Priced" forum Wahoo. That's totally insane...

Interesting stuff - did not know that. I thought the Unlimited moniker started with the JKU.

That's chump change for you Dirty.

There were a lot of sway bars mfg. throughout the XJ years and I've tried a few. My original bar was 24mm, and it was unsat, too loose. Then tried a larger ZJ 26mm bar that wasn't much better than the stock bar, then an aftermarket 28mm ADDCO bar that was waaay to stiff, then finally went to a 28mm NOS Mopar XJ bar that went on the Up Country models among others, and it is perfect.

It will probably tighten it up, can't make it worse, but the Autozone track bar is a low quality C.R.A.P. IMO. I would have gone OEM.

help finding missing fuse or something else
HOrnbrod replied to creekscout's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did you ask him? Yes, he must have been annoyed with the buzzing the chime module makes, so he pulled everything he saw under the dash until he found the chime module. Probably in this order: the headlight delay module (usually hanging from it's harness), the wiper delay module (inline on the steering column multifunction switch harness, then unplugged the cruise yellow wire (also on the steering column multifunction switch harness), then finally found the black or blue chime module near the fuse panel. I would be highly annoyed........ -
Does this make my @$$ look fat?

Excellent Bo. I had a smaller 16' Sun Tracker pontoon boat years ago when we lived on the Suwannee River in FL and we loved it. It's wasn't all that great for fishing because it was about as maneuverable as a barge, but it was great for slow river cruising, relaxing, and . Had some good times in that thing.... BTW, how far do you have to go there to find the nearest navigable river? -

The seal is mashed tight between the door when closed and the rocker, so it's probably pressed on more firmly now than in 09. Might have to use a chisel to get them off now. -

Holy crap! That was in 09? Seems like yesterday. They're still hangin' solid too. -
Check with your local shop first Min. I've rammed a few beers a couple of times with the shop's owner and he probably cut me some slack. Any decent tranny shop should have the correct pullers to jerk out the seal, cut the bushing out, and replace same quickly. Also I did this in 2011 - I'm sure it labor cost is more now.
