  1. Agree, going 3" creates a lot less suspension problems than 4.5". If you do decide to go 3", a good choice for rear springs would be the General Springs metric springs HERE. They will initially net you a ~3" lift in the rear, then settle down over time to ~2". Plus they will provide some extra carrying capacity and they ride nice. The difference after the spring settling can then be made up with a quality set of extended rear shackles, like the Terraflex Shackles. After you get the rear end up where you want to be, then lift the front to match. The best way to do this is with a set of OME 2930 lift coil springs. They ride and handle like no others. Even with a 3" lift, you will also need an adjustable tack bar when all is done to re-center the front axle. I used the Terraflex. I do like Teraflex products. Quality stuff.
  2. What's an ODISY? I must be a troll with no imagination......
  3. I was responding to Blue88Comanche's post. Did you see that? But here's a little factoid that may help you out: According to the 87-90 factory parts manual, the transmission mounts for these vehicles with the 4.0 engine is as follows: 52002328, CROSSMEMBER, Type 1, Peugot 1987-89 52003929, CROSSMEMBER, Type 2, Aisin AX15 1989-90 But for the 2.5 it's: 52002328, CROSSMEMBER, Transmission Support I read this as the 87-90 2.5 MJ vehicles use the same crossmember, p/n 52002328, regardless of transmission. BUT, the cushion mounts for 2WD vs. 4WD have different part numbers for 2WD vs. 4WD. If the parts manual is correct, you can use your existing crossmember with the AX15 but you will have to purchase the 4WD cushion since you are converting to 4WD, p/n 52001180. Also, the YJ crossmember and mount are nothing like the XJ/MJ, so I don't think your adapter bracket you found is going to work.
  4. No, the AX15 cross-member dips down about a inch lower than the AW4 cross-member. I had both and used an AX15 cross-member to lower the t-case for awhile to see if I could get rid on some driveline vibes I had. Didn't work.
  5. NOW you tell me. Wonder if this would work on a 2WD. I used a floor jack in the middle just to get the body weight off the axle then a pipe wrench when I did mine, wasn't too bad.......
  6. I mounted them with the oval bush on the axle end. No idea why, it just seemed more logical. They sure made a positive handling difference over the stock LCAs. Should have done the WJ uppers too instead of just rebushing the original setup.
  7. For the D44 it's easy. They don't use a crush sleeve, they use shims. So when unscrewing the pinion nut, check the torque first; tolerance is 160-200 ft lbs. Then mark and count the turns carefully when removing it, then again when reinstalling the nut. Mine was 170 before taking it off, then 175 when tightening it. As for the AMC20, don't know if they use shims or a crush sleeve. I think crush sleeve?? But you'll have to look that up...
  8. Aftermarket. To all: the WJ LCAs will mount either way. Which way did you mount yours? Oval bushing forward or rearward? Edited 6 minutes ago by HOrnbrod
  9. Junk it and upgrade it with a new u-bolt-style pinion yoke kit like THIS ONE. It's a stronger unit than the strap yoke and if you snap a u-bolt off later just replace the u-bolt, a couple of bucks and easy-peasy. I did a u-bolt pinion kit on my D44 a while ago. You have to replace the pinion yoke seal too of course, but it looks your AMC-20 pinion seal is leaking anyhow.
  10. There's nothing wrong with brass fittings on brake lines as long as they are flare fittings using double flares, and not compression fittings. Manufacturers have used brass fittings for years on brake lines.
  11. The 6.93" filter size like the 51173 would fit but when changing the filter and sliding it off rearward it would come very close to the positive terminal on the starter. So I play it safe and have always used the 5.178" size like the Wix 51515.
  12. Aftermarket one HERE. No pics, but the p/n is correct.
  13. KC HiLiters are not NOT in any of the manual as a Mopar / AMC part, only Marchals, p/n J5756841 / 56002160 (clear) or J5756842 (amber). The KCs were probably a dealer thing.
  14. The adapter nipple replaces the existing pipe nipple. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/using-larger-oil-filter-renix-1124272/ EDIT: Renix question: The 91 and up HO filter "lays down" horizontally and points to the rear so there is always a quantity of oil left in the filter when shutdown. The Renix filter is straight up, so in the case of a filter w/o an anti-drain valve or a leaky one, all the oil would drain out causing dry startups. Not good, si?
  15. Impressive Mike. Any reason you prefer the smaller 750?
  16. As stated by gogmorgo - check for codes first. You have a 91 - always do that first with any problem that's not immediately obvious. It's a great tool for diagnosing, and also for preventive maintenance. Codes should be checked every month or so even if it's running great.
  17. Why reinvent the wheel?? The Renix factory service manuals surely have a flow chart for this condition? I know the Chrysler FSMs do.
  18. You can't restore an old MJ/XJ/CJ/TJ, ect. Jeep with a Quadratec catalog; but it's easy to "build" a JK with the plethora of JK bolt-on parts available. Takes a whole lot less talent too. Plus JK's outnumber old Jeeps like an MJ 1000 : 1. I much rather see restored-to-stock or tastefully modified old Jeeps, especially MJs since they are my favorite, than any JK monstrosity. But that's how it is now. If you don't like looking at JKs that dominate at an "All Breeds" show, ignore them, or don't go.
  19. I've used THIS for all mechanical cables, including speedometer cables, hood cables, clutch cables, tranny shift cables, all of them. Great stuff. It comes with a needle so it can be injected in the cable jacket w/o pulling the cable out.
  20. By "good enough" I mean that they are fine - no need for anything different. Much better light output than the Hella E-code 100w halogens I had before. Speakers have even better rated output vs. amp draw but they look too weird for me. Post up your pic Adam to show how huge. W/o a pic of them installed on something you can't really tell how huge.
  21. http://www.82jambo.com/82_Jambo_Parts_Marchal.html The good old days:
  22. Correct. 850s, 852s, or 890s (same size lamps, just differences in lamp type and shell) were on the Mustangs and tons of other stuff too. Headlamps are Truck-lites, good enough. Old and the new. Am now looking for the black Marchal covers now. Those are super rare......
  23. I've always wanted a set of the regulation Marchal 850GT fogs that were a factory option on many Jeeps back in the day. On J-trucks, Grands, CJs, and some others they were available options, but don't think the XJs or MJs ever got them. Found a NOS pair in France semi-reasonably priced and finally sprung for a pair. In chrome /amber of course. What the hell, it's only money. Anyone else have Marchals mounted? I know Adam does. Pics?
  24. Do you have problems with insects in the paint out in the open like that?
