Indeed....... unfortunately, I've scrapped better Comanche's...... but not after rendering them void of all good useable parts. Yeah, at $1500 that truck will remain lot art.

Being that I have 4 Comanches, 2-'91 Eliminators, a '90 Eliminator and a '91 Sport Truck....... I have a soft spot for 'em. That truck used to be a nicely equipped Eliminator. Unfortunately I agree that it's too far gone to restore. But it does have a lot of really great parts. Here in Colorado, that truck would bring $800 tops to a collector like me. In general though, just as a running driving truck........ probably $500-$700. Scrap value out here would be around $400. Is that truck in Lincoln NE? Are you looking to buy it? If not, I might be interested in cruising out there to get it if the price is right.........

Did you mean the '78 the Datsun with the clean replacement cab and bed to go with it? Cool 4x4 conversion with a built v6 in it. Would be a fun truck!

Sorry, no "budget" MJ's at this time. Yeah, stay away from those '86 MJ's....... yuk. That '88 up north could be a decent buy. I'd also say that Jim would be your best bet for long term storage if you had to go that way...... his corral is always full of MJ's.... what's one more? :D

LOL........ yeah, it's FAR from pristine. It's got two nasty cracks on the top and the inner structure is busted all to hell. Figured it was just too rare and cool to send to the crusher with the rig it came out of. This photo pretty much sums up the overall condition of the 2dr XJ and former postal delivery Cherokee it came out of. If stood on the door sill plate and bounced up and down, I could get that crack to open up almost a 1/4".......

Not sure it's "bling"........ but anyone else have an RHD dash screwed to their garage wall? :D

I used to own that "Truggy". It's getting a bit dated, but still one helluva hard-core rig. The axles under it now are an upgrade from the D44/Ford 9 combo it had under it prior. Still needs a bit of work and a few grand thrown at it to get it trail worthy.

Well, I used to do some shooting with all these fine guns......... but unfortunately, they were all lost during an unfortunate canoeing incident and I no longer have any guns....... Romanian AK-47 Stainless Mini-14 and some tacti-cool stuff XDm .40 4.5" length, 16 round mags, TLR-2 light and Trijcon night sites. .45 cal Thompson replica, M1 Garand, AK 47 pistol Bond Arms .410 Derringer Bushmaster AR 15 A4 with Magpul furniture, bi-pod fore grip, tac light with pressure switch, etc...... Remington 870 all tacticool'd and some upgraded mags for my AR and AK. Also had a Sig P226 9mm, Sig 230 .380 in stainless, a S&W 3913 in stainless, a Remington lever action .22, a Winchester semi-auto .22LR and an old-school single shot, breach loader 12 GA my grandfather left me. All drowned in the lake.......... :(

No, the 2.8 V6 coils won't really net any drop given that the weight difference between the 2.8 and 4.0 isn't much. Front tires were a 26 or 27 x 4.5x15 .... Can't recall specifically.

Perhaps the emblem saying "Laredo" just below the "Comanche" on the fender might suggest it's a "Laredo"? Just sayin'.......... :fool: :D

Yep, definitely be sure to have SOLID bump stops that halt all up travel before the front axle beam hits the oil pan. These are MJ 4cyl front coils under a 6cyl engine. Rear used 2.5" or 3" blocks...... can't recall the size exactly.

I like how the description on the Barrett Jackson listing says it was a complete restoration "nothing was missed on the build of this truck".......... except the interior. That truck still has an old-school tape deck stereo........ I'm seriously considering submitting my all original '90 Eliminator for this kind of auction if a shiny paint job is all it takes to get big bucks. Seems my '90 with it's nice interior, D44, full skid package could fetch good money......... if I ever get around to replacing the blown motor and getting it painted...... lol.

Jim, Here's a write up using the hatch lift struts from a late model XJ: http://www.grobe.us/Jeep/Tech/Body/hoodlift/qnd-install.htm Indeed, the hatch strut DIY set up raises the hood way open...... but it's cheap and uses only one strut. The Redline kit, while pricey, works perfectly as it should using 2 struts, and keeps the hood at a reasonable height to reach and close. I had the Redline kit on an XJ and liked it alot.

Begs the question.......... should you even be trying to build something like this if you have to ask......... :dunno: The un-sprung weight of axles large enough to handle 46" tires........ and then the weight of the tires and wheels.... would be enough to tear up an MJ like a tin can just flexing it out. You're gonna spend money trussing, caging and reinforcing the snot outta the MJ. Anyway......... here's an XJ on 52" Michelins and Unimog Portal axles.........
