The bed or the whole truck?

..... And the grill is on upside down.......

Hey Rob, automan, can you have your guy get me pics of this?
yellaheep replied to shelbyluvv's topic in The Pub
That's pretty damn yummy. A Limited MJ. Looks to have leather buckets too...... Wonder if they flip forward and have power seat bases....... I'd love to do a Metric Ton dually in Limited trim..... -
I'll be lifting my '91 MJ using 3.5 lift components and rear add-a-leaf. I need to figure out shocks. Bilsteins would be my first choice, but I can't justify the expense. Read some good thing about the Heckethorn/Rough Country 8000 series hydro shocks. Anyone running these? Anyone have part numbers so I can start shopping? So far, the couple places I've tried locally don't show listings for Comanches..... I know Hell Creek sells the RC 8000 so I may hit them up.

'91 comanche 4x4 diesel
yellaheep replied to shawn's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Jeezus....... why crush it? The first person that comes to see it, take their best offer over scrap value fer cryin' out loud. I just don't get the "I want $3000 or it gets crushed" mentality........ BTW, your craigs ad has expired....... might have something to do with your lack of interest/calls about it..... -
I feel ya. Anyone who collects these stupid little jeeps always gets excited at the prospect of finding their "holy grail" '92. But, a '91 isn't at all bad either. My $1,400 '91: My $600 '90 And a real shame...... a '91 Metric Ton with bad title issues and a pretty destroyed bed. Donated lots of parts though.

Never actually put it on a scale, but I'm guessing somewhere between 500-700 lbs at most. It's REAL easy to move around and the tongue weight maybe 50 lbs empty.
-
REALLY bad idea using that tow bar. It's not designed for any tongue weight, just straight pull. And, the tow bar's length is pretty short. There are a couple of trailer build threads on this site, do some searching to see what you might be able to copy. Mine was made using the MJ rear "frame" and a boat trailer tongue section I cut from a trailer at a junk yard for $70.

Congrats! I was your competition....... :D

Hi...... I'm Yellaheep and I'm an MJ-aholic.....
yellaheep replied to yellaheep's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Picked up yet another...... Trade deal actually. That gold '90 short bed I grabbed in Nebraska got traded to my buddy for this one he bought for his kid..... who promptly declined it since it was a long bed. They will be using a '96 XJ donor to put the gold MJ back together with. This long bed is a runner/driver and just needs the clutch slave replaced and some other tinkering. It's an '89 4x4, 4.0 5sp. Non-A/C. The rest is pretty basic. Pretty straight over all with a decent topper and plastic bed liner. The doors got very rotten due to deterioriated window seals. My buddy replaced one door and I have the other so I can replace the driver's door. The tail gate was also rusted beyond repair, but I had another in almost the same color so that got installed already. I replaced the busted grill/bezel parts already as well as the bashed rear bumper with an aftermarket bumper that came with it. I also swapped on a set of roller 235's and steel wheels in place of the ratty rusty wheels it had. The pass. side cab corner and bed were pretty bashed in too, but I spent about 30 minutes with some suction cup tools and worked them out. Looks much better. May have a paintless dent repair place look into finishing it, then have it painted at MAACO back to it's original white. :dunno: After shot of the bed and cab corner (forgot to get a before shot......) Gonna have to re-glue the headliner and give the interior a good scrubbing. Seat had a cover over it and is in pretty decent shape. -

Nice clean MJ! Those floor boards are incredible. Are you sure about the 4:56 gear ratio in that D35? Never heard of anything from the factory, with an auto deeper than a 3:54/3:55. :dunno: -
Cherokee air intake box into a comanche
yellaheep replied to E4Marty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never tried it, but visually, it appears that no, it won't bolt in and work easily. The front firewall/radiator support and the power steering reservior (if you have P/S) definitely would be in the way for the OEM 4.0L air box. The angles and length of the air intake tube from the box to the throttle body would be significantly different as well between the 2.5 and 4.0. But with some fabrication, it may work, just not a bolt in kinda thing. I believe I have a 2.5L air box and tube amongst my parts pile. I might be willing to ship it if you want it. -
Brought another one home. Sort of a barn-find........ Guy advertised a Jeep truck for salvage, ad said it had an "Eliminator" sticker on the bed sides........ had to go check it out. Glad I did! '90 Eliminator non-A/C truck, 4.0 and AX15 with 154K miles on it. Engine was torn down to the short block. Unfortunately, the owner inherited the truck when his brother died and he couldn't tell me why the engine was torn down. Completely un-touched original truck, never wrecked and rust free except for a silver-dollar sized spot on one corner of the fuel filler door opening. Factory skids, D44 w/ limited slip, and the usual Eliminator options. Interior is super nice. Seats are near perfect as is the carpet with OEM "Jeep" floor mats. Headliner fabric was torn out but otherwise the interior is all there and in great shape. The jack looks like it's never been used and still fastened in it's proper location. OEM AM/FM stereo and OEM shifter knob. The glove box contained all the original manuals - I'm hoping among the other papers I'll find the original window sticker......... All the exterior rubber is pretty dry-rotted but the body is near mint. Originally black, it's got severe sun-burned paint. A small dent to the driver's door, another to the passenger side cab panel behind the door is all. The bed is as nice as I've ever seen on an unrestored truck. The fender wells don't have any dents, the tail gate looks to have never had anything heavy loaded on it and it's totally straight. The front bed panel isn't banged up or dented and the top edge is arrow straight. It's like it was a commuter truck that never hauled anything. None of the skid plates have a scratch on them. Still has all 5 of the Eliminator wheels as well. Plan is to fix or replace the engine, replace all fluids, flush out the gas tank, replace the rotten muffler, replace the dry rotted tires, and get it back to running/driving condition. I'll probably sell it at that point......... unless I get the wild hair to have it painted. This truck has the potential to be nicer than my '91 Eliminator........ Not looking forward to digging this out........... :ack:

Comanches for sale, Phoenix Az
yellaheep replied to MJCARENA's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Yeah that white one with the funny rear bumper......... That's an XJ rear bumper and XJ end caps. Notice that it doesn't have the usual truck bumper recess for a ball hitch and license plate. -
If you have the original bench still in your MJ..... You already have the floor brackets that can be swapped to XJ buckets..... Search seat swap threads for pics and write ups on doing this. You should also add your location to your info so folks near you can offer up parts or help.

Search the photos here: http://www.google.com/search?q=comanche ... a=N&tab=wi I used to own this one a couple years back:

Ok, so on this elusive MJ RV......... I got a reply from someone at Winnebago Corp and they're willing to do some searching of their records. A VIN would be helpful, but unfortunately that's not likely to come to light. I sent them the photos - hopefully it'll help narrow down some info. Using the photos in this thread, I called the phone number visible on the window of the shop it's parked in front of. I spoke with "Keith" who owns the shop and this is what he could tell me: It sold "3 weeks to a month ago" and belonged to a 10+ year customer of his. His shop did all the maintenance/service of it over those past 10 years. He said it was "super clean and very low miles. He said it was a 2wd and wasn't positive but believes it was an '86. He said he thinks the new owner came from Montana to buy it and that the buyer was a Comanche enthusiast. Beyond that, "Keith" wasn't real helpful. He denied having ever had the RV for sale at his shop, nor did he do the craigslist ad and found it "very odd" that there would have been photos of it in front of his shop. He was almost alarmed that the photos would be found on Google....... but he's an old guy....... :D I'd find it hard to believe it to be an '86....... but the 10 slot grille does suggest it to be pre '87. I dunno who in their right minds building RV's would remotely think that it'd be a good idea to power that size of an RV with that anemic 2.8 V6...... I'd be more inclined to think it's an '87-'90.........maybe the grille got changed........ :dunno: Anyone know of any Montana based MJ enthusiasts????
-
Seems to me that a sturdy fiberglass fender would end up being quite a bit thicker and the material would end up being much heavier than the OEM steel panel they'd be replacing. I just cut away a longbed panel..... hardly weighed anything. :dunno:
-
I've got a nice low-mile (90K) AX-5 for a 2wd from a '90 MJ....... PM if you want to discuss it. I have a for sale thread for it as well.
-
Damn, I wish that craigs ad was still up.......... I'd love to get more info on this truck. It appears that the "Spirit" motorhomes were an Itasca motorhome product and they made lots of these using Toyota platforms. I sent off an e-mail to Itasca (which falls under the Winnebago company apparently) hoping to get some info about how many of these were made and what years. I'd assume these to have been made during '91 and '92......... :dunno:

Anyone Build an MJ Bed Trailer?
yellaheep replied to holeski's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Got the tongue fitted and mostly welded in here, looking at spare tire placement and working on wiring. Finished with the welding. Not my best work...... but it should do. I put bolts in as well - just in case. And here it is, about as done as it's gonna get. I went to buy new shocks for it..... opened the boxes at the store and both had severe paint peel issues. They didn't have any others available...... They gave 'em to me free! Just gotta finish the spare tire mount and it's done. -
Anyone Build an MJ Bed Trailer?
yellaheep replied to holeski's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm building a long bed trailer right now........... From this pile 'o parts I brought back from Nebraska.... The long bed strapped to the MJ and the frame section wedged under the front of it......... Has finally been re-united, put the springs and axle under it and rolled it into the garage..... Cut some excess frame away and prepped it for a trailer conversion......... Went to a local junk yard and cut this from a boat trailer........ Pics tomorrow of the progress. -
