  1. A V8 is a lot shorter than a straight 6, and length is the problem with the straight 6. The problem with a V8 is going to be cooling. The front of a Comanche simply has not been designed for enough airflow to cool a V8.
  2. I usually look the parts up at home so I can just tell them what part number I need. On the few occasions I forget, after 5 minutes of back and forth they usually give up and hand me the keyboard... p- So what vehicle do I put that under for warranty? m- 1987 Jeep Comanche. p- No, really. m- 1987 Jeep Comanche. p- That part is not for a Jeep Comanche. m- That is what it's going on, p- It won't fit. m- Trust me, it fits. p- "No vehicle given".

    Wildman??

Almost two years later, Bob is still ok, still busy. He's thinking of fixing up some of his herd when he has time and putting them up for sale on here.

  5. Attempted to take the pitman arm off to take to the junk yard and see if I can find one that will work for what I need -> bent the puller to the point of being useless. Pitman arm has not budged. Attempted to take a broke off bolt out the the driver side steering knucle -> broke my tap handle, found a 10mm 12pt socket fits on the easy-out as well, wouldn't budge with a ratchet, easy out snapped in two with a breaker bar. I love it when a plan comes together. On the flip side, I hate it when Murphy shows his face in the shop.
  6. I use the Purolator Pur-One filters for that reason. Not all filters are created equal.
  7. My 87 without AC looks like figure 27 in post number 5 or figure 13 in post number 6. The tensioner is in the power steering pump. I've actually been thinking of removing the idler pulley as it doesn't seem to do much useful.
  8. You don't run a ZJ tie rod by any chance, do you? If so, rotate the hold down bolts on the adjusting sleeve away from the sway bar bracket.
  9. If the battery is that tall, you better hope it never shorts out on the hood frying your computer.
  10. I have a driveshaft (unless I threw it out already) out of a 2wd Cherokee 4.0/AW4. I can measure the length if I still have it.
  11. ZJs that don't use CV shafts (4.0 models?) also use 297s.
  12. I would imagine they are street legal as the Chevy C6500 chassis cab uses them on the rear axle. I imagine designing a shackle to handle 25,000 pounds would be a problem.
  13. The YJ and TJ transmissions clock the transfer case up higher causing interference with the floor. You want an AX5 out of a 4wd Comanche (MJ) or Cherokee (XJ).
  14. If it has never been done before, you're way overdue for a filter change. As for your question, I think I have it written down somewhere at the shop. Will check when I make it there later today.
  15. I gave most of mine away since I moved to a D60, keeping one set of spares for my daughter's XJ, and one set left in the D30 I'm selling. Would gladly take you up on the trade, but shipping to and from Montana would costs more than it's worth.
  16. 1 1/16"
  17. Okay, so I have had my trail rig for 6 years now. I knew for some reason it had the headlight sentinel module, but not the correct chime module to make it work. Makes sense? Didn't to me. Just today I also found out it has a cruise control shut off switch on the brake pedal. Yet it does not have, nor has it ever had, cruise control... Wonder what else I'll find if I dig deep enough.

    Np231 Chain

Running without fluid in the case, or a case full of mud will do that to a chain in a few hundred miles, even in 2wd. Ask me how I know.
  19. He has evidently never heard of a line wrench. USE THE PROPER TOOLS FOR THE JOB!!! A pair of vice grips and a regular open end wrench to remove the brake lines????
  20. Renix engine bay (86 through 90) is identical between MJ and XJ. Chrysler (91-92) is also, but different from Renix. So if you get an evap cannister from a Renix XJ, where it was mounted is also where it will mount in your MJ.
  21. Chains have their uses. Recovering a Jeep stuck in the mud is not one of them. Use the proper tools for the job. Don't use a chisel as a screwdriver.
  22. No shock, no matter how it is mounted, will ever do anything whatsoever to combat axle wrap.
  23. The newwer Cherokees the rubber pops out of the metal cups. On the older ones, though, and our Comanches it doesn't. The metal cup with the rubber stop permanently attached unscrews from the post.
  24. Half a 231 (just the gear reduction housing) between the transmission and whole transfer case. high 2wd = normal 2wd low 2wd = low range 2wd (not available with just one case) high 4high = normal 4wd high 4low = 2.72 low range 4wd low 4 high = 2.72 low range 4wd low 4low = 7.40 super low range 4wd (not available with just one case) Now if you install a terra-low kit in one of them, your available ratios will be 1:1 2.72:1 4:1 10.88:1
