  1. I've started designing a new chassis wiring harness for my truck; partially in preparation for a tdi swap and partially because I've grown to really like wiring and electrical systems and just want it all fresh. I see there's a green fusible link feeding power to the switch and there's two outputs that feed the "run" position (one also feeds the "acc" position.) By counting the fuse ratings on the circuits fed by these two I come up with 32 amps on the "run only" output and almost 90 amps on the "run and acc" circuit! Am I crazy or is that really high?! The next question would be are these two portions of the switch rated to carry different amounts... I believe this is all GM stuff btw.
  2. Ok then! Good to know information!
  3. Totally spent 30 min looking into this thing trying to figure out my washer sprayers before I discovered this has nothing to do with the wipers[emoji13] What does "centering adj" have to do with cruise?!
  4. I did some work on a customer's 80something BWM 3 series and I noticed the hand brake handle had a super short travel. I'm thinking of putting one of those (or any other that you don't have to pull up very far) as a t-case brake lever to the left of the driver's seat. I just can't bring myself to sacrifice any of the space between my seats.
  5. I'll add that it's pretty easy (and cheap) to make some shims.
  6. +1 I'd much rather have something NEW in this department. Having a failed parking brake roll you into traffic or injure someone is real sucky. Not that new parts never fail but yea...
  7. dasbulliwagen: I'd be willing to remove my pedal assy. and ship it to you so you can see them side by side and snap some pictures. I need to get something together and I simply don't have the time to go through the research. Thoughts?
  8. pretty hard to keep a v8 cool in an XJ/MJ. My vote is stay v6.
  9. Are you considering the Grand Am heads and intake(s)?
  10. The FelPro improved design ones are the ticket. Part number will end in a "-1" I believe.
  11. Just say no to the 3.9 junk dude. We service a fleet of uplander minivans with either the 3.5 or 3.9 and they're not near the reliability of the old 3.1 or 3.4 in the Grand Ams and what not. All of those "features" mentioned earlier come at the cost of simplicity and reliability in my experience; not to mention the crazy complexity to swap that over to a 25 year-old truck and have it work correctly. A Camaro 3.4 with aluminum Grand Am heads and the appropriate cam/tune would run great. Check out 60degreev6.com
  12. How much are you guy's paying for those core shifters?
  13. I have good (wholesale) access to a local driveshaft builder; after speaking with him briefly today I am considering having them lengthen (re-tube) a stock front shaft and use it in my SOA/SYE project. The only objection he had to the idea was if the front Ujoints were a smaller series than what came in the rear, which I don't believe is the case in our trucks.... Can anyone confirm this is an un-stupid idea??
  14. I may be meeting up with some guys I used to wheel with at Moonlight Racing Offroad Park on new years day.

  16. Ah, well I figured it wasn't the end of the world if I messed them up so I gave it a shot
  17. Already over budget, lol I don't see where it'll be a problem safety wise.
  18. Yes I used a press. Had to get creative trying to keep the arms from collapsing; I used sockets and pieces of scrap sandwiched in the open part of the arms. I also tack welded the bushings in place once I was done. For the axle side I used a sledge. Of course that's with the axle out from under the truck...[emoji12]
  19. Hey thanks! SOA should come next. After that I really should force myself to get the body fixed up so my wife will be seen in it again.
  20. Pressed in all new OE-style rubber bushings. She's all bolted up, aligned, and ready to roll!
  21. I stay away from heim joints for street driven rigs. No protection from the elements so they wear out quickly. Just my $.02 I have an adjustable one from JKS (has a re-buildable johnny joint) and I couldn't be happier.
  22. Awesome info. I can't help but keep going back to the VW for the weight factor alone. People forget how much of a factor curb weight is when it comes to chassis wear and tear. I'm going to daily drive this thing, and as much as I'd like to justify a badass trussed high steer HP44 the economical option is to keep my disco HP30 and stock-type suspension, brakes, etc. Also found that a 2002 TDI Jetta weighs almost exactly the same as a short-box MJ and the manual trans. ratios are close to the same; seems like this thing would be right at home in our trucks! especially if you could dumb it down with an old school VE pump and no electronics. And johnj92131 is right; search "mTDI" and see how many hits come up. Giles is a big name for sure.
