  1. So there's no modifications you had to make to fit up the Rough Country brackets to the MJ? It's only the brace that's a XJ vs MJ issue?
  2. So the "extra" part that's welded onto the otherwise XJ-identical mount? I've seen it called a brace or gusset... I think we're talking about the same thing... and by what I read using the RC braces will require them to be trimmed down as well. I'm intrigued now; can I use the RE9900 kit (mount relocation parts alone,) use it brace-less for a time, and later design and build some braces that work with the factory MJ frame?? I'd love to NOT cut up my truck if I don't have to!
  3. -The factory ones? -So, no brace at all? Just the drop brackets?
  4. I've never been thrilled with going this route in the first place but it looks to be the best choice right now ($$$) to get it riding safe/correct. I've read up as much as I can stand; including threads like this one that are MJ specific: http://comancheclub.com/topic/18066-lower-control-arm-drop-bracket/?hl=arm+drop This is what I've come up with so far: RRO (Rocky Road Outfitters): Pros: Strong, one-piece, MJ specific design Cons: LOTS of pretty crappy reviews on customer service and product quality/fitment. Sounds like a real gamble. RCX (Rough Country): Pros: Cost, availability, reliable supplier/manufacturer, cost. Cons: Multipiece design, designed for XJ (have to remove MJ gussets,) puny bolt-on bracket brace. RCE (Rubicon Express): Pros: Beefy bracket brace (extends to crossmember,) big collar/bushing on upper bracket (compared to RCX.) Cons: Don't really know much about the product! Haven't seen anyone use it on an MJ... I'll be making a decision next week. Any additional feedback is welcome, especially on the RCE kit!
  5. A D30 may not hold up to that... lol +1 :rotf:
  6. You can dive into projects like this knowing that there's going to be something else that needs to be changed/fixed/modified while you're there... like clockwork! Bent LCA bracket; apparently this is a common problem on all linked Jeeps. Now the whole thing gets to come out.
  7. ZJ left tie rods. Maybe I'll experiment with flipping the outer someday.
  8. Couldn't help but clean up the old Rusty's 3" lift coils while they were out. The driver's side is bowed noticeably I assume from the lift with no lengthened control arm(s). Wish I had the dough to replace them :(
  9. Time for some upkeep and a few mods. 1/2 ton Chevy hoses (NAPA 38183 and 38182.) Had to modify the bracket, and I'm not so sure they're not going to contact the wheels; we'll see. JKS ACOS spacers; likely going to push the lift a little too high even all the way closed. Probably going to shim the lower control arms out as far as they'll go. At least she'll sit level again!
  10. The blue (spinnaker blue or pacific blue??) never really has been my favorite, but it definitely has lots of memories attached to it. I may end up keeping the color when I get the body fixed up. Heck I might even put the stripes back on it who knows. I believe it was a 3/4" spacer puck. I'll be getting rid of them soon if you're interested :D
  11. What about a "broken back" setup? Tempting... http://www.billavista.com/Tech/Articles/Driveshaft_Bible/index.html
  12. Sounds good to me! I think she's still got what it takes to do some light trails.
  13. Alan West of St. Louis I've been to Hanibal Rocks and FlatNasty both years ago and enjoyed them for sure. Biggest hurdle for me (outside of the whole free-time thing...) is finding a decent group of people to go with. Finding a group that's not too extreme, but not boring either is difficult enough, plus my wife and I aren't drinkers, so that rules out a lot of the crowd I've found. I'd be willing to hook up with a couple people from CC and give it a try.
  14. Since I'll be re-locating perches for the SOA anyways, I've been looking into pointing the pinion up at the transfer case and having a CV driveshaft made. I know MJs don't need to do this in the name of drivetrain, I just want to get that big ol' diferential a little more out of the way. It shouldn't be a very steep "tilt" upwards, but I don't really want to find out that the pinion bearings are starving when I'm crusing down the highway... Thoughts?
  15. I very well may be tackling this fix over the winter. Resto work!
  16. I'm looking forward to the rocker replacement
  17. Now THIS is a thought! The only thing I don't like about my 8.25 is the front of the is SO low and bulky. Anyone done this?
  18. I've got a later 8.25 with the 29 spline shafts and an Aussie Locker and I'm happy as a clam; but then again I'm not punishing it really hard with 32" tires. People will tell you that it's nearly as strong as a D44...
  19. here's the link to my bumper thread for more details: http://comancheclub.com/topic/29124-my-rear-bumper-build-is-finally-underway/
  20. All done for now; still need to wire up the reverse lights and bring the bumper forward to meet the wheel well.
