So I stand corrected; forgot about the ARB. I'd rather have an electrically actuated one but hey, maybe I will keep the chryco  -

HID Projector Retrofit | Discussion
A-man930 replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Guess I never really knew foglights were meant to cast to the side (never had a car/truck with them.) I would still be interested to see how regular projectors would work down in the bumper, not as "foglights," but headlights. If they're aimed correctly I don't see how they could be anything but an improvement and could be left on during normal on-road use. Additional lights for off-road (or occasional deserted road :brows: ) use would obviously be good, especially for the side casting. -

HID Projector Retrofit | Discussion
A-man930 replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just had a thought for those of us with (or considering getting) an aftermarket front bumper. Why not use HID projectors as "foglights?" The cutoff point would be diffused by standard headlamps in the factory position (would have to match color temp.) Oncoming traffic isn't going to mind, as the bumper sits nice and low. Thoughts?? Sorry to hijack... -
I've been told NOT to use GL5 as the sulfur content is no-good for the brass syncro rings... My rebuilder recommended 5w30 engine oil (synthetic.)

Yea but it aint just looks... I'm thinking camping.

So the brights are that much better huh? I do like that... In reference to this writeup: http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoBiXenonProjectors.htm I guess I'm not convinced I'd be happy with the results. Believe me I'm normally all for a DIY alternative to expensive and/or unavailable commercial offerings, but there are some things I question. 1) Integrity: Will this now swiss-cheesed housing be likely to warp/crack when shook to death in an off-road environment? What will happen to all that foil tape when its repeatidly exposed to engine bay heat cycles, water, mud, and whatever else manages to get flung onto it (i.e. burst p/s line) Is it gonna continue to hold the projector in that just-right position?? 2) Appearance: Will this home-brewed lexan front cover become all hazy and gross over a few years and after a few mudbaths? Is this foil tape seal gonna actually keep moisture and contaminates out of the housing? I'm sure someone on here can vouch for some of these concerns but in my mind there are some things that arguably are better suited to be produced professionally with oe-like tolerances etc. -

I don't know about anybody else but I don't like the "cutoff" line that HIDs give you... -
I had a heck of a time trying to get a plug to thread into the egr port in the manifold. So much so that I ended up just cutting the tube, crimping it, and welding the seam shut. Works like a charm :clapping:

Is there a quick fix for the parking brake lever?
A-man930 replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I keep meaning to take mine apart and see what is actually "worn." Nothing worse than thinking you can rely on the parking brake :fs1: -

Checking in from Warrenton, MO. I know there are other MO MJs on here! I'd like to join in on a wheelin' trip with some other mj guys but the funds just won't be around for another 18+ months :ack: Just a meet and greet would be a good time I'm sure. I know some good bars in the westplex!

Box tube rocker replacement
A-man930 replied to dave92cherokee's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've heard that its actually not too uncommon to over time see the unibody sheet seperate from the stuff welded in. I'm wondering if it would be feasible/better to run supports inward to the frame for the entire length of the slider? Instead of only past the cab, as you say. What I'd like is some more cut-away pictures of the section of floorpan outside the "frame rail" as viewed from the interior. or I just need to get into one and start cuttin! -

i'd go with at 242 if there were a terra-low kit for it :( -
I've heard the same thing. This is the route I would go if I had an '86. The GM 3.4 is a very reliable, simple, and cheap replacement for a 2.8 (which isn't really all that bad to begin with.) You can probably even keep your oe intake/exhaust.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for someone parting out a 2wd MJ so I can get those leaves. Then some 6.5" coils up front to bring it to about level. I'll go budget and go without the ACOS or adjustable shackles. JeepNewb, I was looking around on Barnes4wd site and I like their axle swap combo kits. Any other good perches out there?
