Stock I agree 37's max. We have a guy in the club wheeling 38's on H1 rims (stupid heavy) but he has a 4 cylinder, never had any front axle breakage. So it depends on how hapy your right foot is, and how heavy of a tire you run. Also the 3/4 ford front axle uses different inner shafts then your run of the mill d44

Passanger drop though? it will have the small bearing spindles which are needed to use 5x5.5 hubs on chevy flat tops

Adam...Not to Hijack this Post... why did RK choose to do that? I feel the on road handling of this kit was awesome... especially considering I never hooked a sway bar back up after installing.

What Multipurposemj said is 100% correct. The big 3 in particular have held onto the notion that every needs a new car every yr  GM especially has relied way to much on SUV and Truck sales to keep thier company afloat. Also lets face it.. GM has way too many cars and trucks that look alike except for the trim badging. I don't think Chrysler needs the money.. I think the PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMthat owns them just wants their money back. Especially considering they have 20 billion in assets. I think Ford has approached this right. They are basically saying.. we have money.. but if the econemy doesnt trun around.. we are going to need some. Just a point.... Honda has plants in the South were they pay workers 18 bucks an hour. The big 3 have plants in the North.. pay workers 28 bucks an hour. According to Gettlefinger (UAW President) labor only makes up 10% of a cars price... so that means it takes 1500 to build my truck.. where it takes 4500 to build the 1 ton model.... that doesnt make sense.. when the only difference is the motor

I have a small Licoln Procut 25. It works good, especially considering I bought it used. Since I have bought it though (2.5 yrs ago) Plasmas have come done greatly

AW4 to 2.8L V-6 Possible?
pingpong replied to jeepspeedo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The solution lies in the s-10. they used the same engine as the jeep. It will be a 700r4 which is a great trans. Problem is the early ones had a few issues. Mostly with longevity (mine went over 200k) I think this was due to ppl not maintenancing them, or towing to much with a light weight truck. If I am not mistaken (don't really know) they used a np207 too, so It is entirely possible to find a s10 and swap it in. I know Painless wiring offers stand alone kits for the torque converter lock up function. -
Yes I meant two hand curl.

I have experience with both of these kits  To me the Terra kit is a good street only kit. Doesnt flex very well. Its instalation is a bit of a PITA cause you have to cut your x-member and drill holes into a small lip. You will also need adjustable uppers on this kit. THe RK kit flexes great and is realtively easy to intall. I recommend having a right angle drill on hand. I really like the way it replaces the front axle bushing with a flex joint. Also the way the arms are bent helps increase gound clearance and eliminates a problem I had with the Terra kit.. That was the arms(center part) rubbing or holding me off a rock so I couldn't get traction.

OK .. I don't know how many of you have been following the hearings on CSPAN. I have. Ford says they have enough Cash to make it till March. Chrysler is owned by a Private Equity firm that has 20 billion reserves (CEO didnt know how that money was made up) GM or more specificly Wagner Said Gm only has enough cash to make it the rest of the month. I won't go into what will happen to the big 3 if one of them file bankruptcy, or if one of them fail. I will say that all this talk about them going bankrupt has changed my wife and I choice for our next car. Also lets keep in mind that this economic downturn is hitting every industy. I work in the Paper Making Industry ( I make the paper that makes boxes), and currently the company I work for has Shut down either temporarily (defined restart time) or indefinately shut down(don't think will be restarted) 7 facilities across The United States. I am currently lucky to still be working... lets see what happens in another year.

I can't tell you the weights.. but I will tell you a complete 2.5 is a BIATCH to try and move around with out a engine lift  Also I can barely pick up a 4.0 long block, but if you remove the crank and rods.. I can curl the block  I might not be the smartest person.. but I can lift heavy objects :dunce:
-
I have a 2dr XJ running 3" and 32's looks good to me.
-
9" of lift I think you could clear 38's or 40's with good bumpstopping.

Yeah it is.. but the VAFWDA annual run there was 100 for non-members in the fall. So thats about right.. especially considering "catered food" and "live band". Ever since the nelson county got involved in issueing permits, and making them get insurance.. the price of the events has gone up. I wll be there.. thinking of taking a whole week and stopping by a few other trails up there to trail ride before hand. On a side not.. Big Dogs.. Ice Breaker event should be In April... Trail riding season is only 3 months away :D

Nice clean rig. Where is that trail... kinda looks like PA

JT.. I could see if they were hunting for food like you said.. But these guys slaughter deer wholesale around here. It isnt uncommon to hear of them killing 10-15 deer a day during season. I know they have to kill so many to keep the herd healthy.. but in the last 5 yrs I have hit 3 deer  So I guess there are still to many around. Hornbrod... I think ppl who use rabbit and brid dogs fall into a different catagoery then deer hunting dogs. A deer dog either runs or it don't.. very lil training in them. Now a bird dog/rabbit dog most of their owners put lots of time into them training them, and we have a couple of guys at work that raise/breed/train rabbit dogs... and some of them fetch several hundred to a thousand dollars per dog... where a beagle.. might get 100 :???:

I agree 100% but until they change the law.. that is what happens in VA at least

This is one of my favorite places to wheel/trail ride. It is kinda pricey, but the local club I belong to will be there in force (15-20 rigs normally) I think it would be great if we can have a mini Comanche club round up there  Date: Nov 21 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2009 Virginia Wheel-In Trail Ride: Another Chance for Fun and (a discount too!) Around where I live Hunting is everything to some of these "rednecks". We have guys at work that take ALL of their vacation time this yr to hunt. I personally do not hunt.. but for some reason I always have deer meat  Maybe one of you hunters can riddle me this... Around here all the hunters wear camaflouge.. run dogs, and sit along side the road waiting for the dogs to flush the deer out... Whats the purpse of the Camaflouge? You think the deer can't see the truck? :???:

tire sizes, 4.88 gears, waggy 44? etc.
pingpong replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK to go to 5 on 5.5 you need one a set of knuckles that can take small bearing spindles and a set of ford rotor's. Not very hard to do.. but pricey. New small bearing spindles are around 90 a piece... and used ones are not that much cheaper. For the rear a set of Alloy USA shafts with all the goodies could be at your house for under 300, heck you can even upgrade to 33 spline if you want :smart: If you are set on keep ing your d30 I would buy some 30 spline alloy shafts for the front. Gp with some nice u-joints... and depending on your wheeling satyle and how heavy of a wheel and tire you select.. 37 could live on it.. 36's would be more realistic. Your Last issue is the amount of lift required to clear 36 or 37" tires. The front with proper bumpstopping is going to need 7-8" the rear.. well maybe with a "custom bed lift" and proper bumpstopping you could clear them.. but I don't know. To me the option would be to pull the good bed.. and find a less then stellar one and use that for wheeling. If that all fails. how much you want for the gears? -
Not sure of the dry weight of a MJ, but to mee an 8000lb winch is barely enough. Figure you rig weighs 3k+/- then add all the junk we keep in them and you are closer to 3.5k so using that figure you need at least 7k winch. Also the fact that it is 12 yrs old, and you really don't know the history :huh???: You don't know if it has been abused(most winches are even if only used a few times). PLus with it being 12 yrs old.. the solenoids would be questionable at best.. and would require a thorough inspection. You can get a warn M8000 for just under 600... It would though make a good trailer winch, or axle winch

As Eagle stated you need to lube them rod and main journals before starting. I forgot who makes it (think royal purple) makes a break in oil. Or you can coat all the journals with assembly lube which should be good for start up. Might want to hit the rust on the cylinder walls with a hone..otherwise your rings might get toasted

I must say I like. But I have some questions/request. I would like to see how you linked the rear. Here is a pic of my junk. I had the cage done proffesionally.. but I am in the process of redoing it again. I think I am going to leaf spring the front and link the rear. Depening on where you are at.. I have a few d44 laying around- 46 replies

I have a Craftsman 30 gal with the 6hp motor. It does ok running air tools, but is woefully under powered for any air grinding or sanding. Heck I have to stop sometimes using it with my 60% duty cycle plasma that runs at 60 PSI. Granted it is an older air compressor. I want one of them fancy dual stage IR ones with as Eagle pointed out has dual cylinders and oil pump :D ... When I get it. I will plumb my garage for air and mount the air compressor outside in a lil shed like thingy.... keep in mind air compressors are loud
