TC Lockup Problems and other issues....
Geonovast replied to armybmbsqd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Drop in a stick :brows: I'm not an auto expert..but I can see how low fluid would cause the converter to not lock up. Top that off and see what it does. -
Oh yeah...that's right. I just woke up and don't feel any better than yesterday

Ballast Resistor is only used during startup. Fuel pump itself could be fubar.

Very nice buy...pretty much any MJ is worth $200. It's probably some $10 sensor that's making it do that, too.

This looks awful familiar don't it?
Geonovast replied to LJRockstar's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup, my mom's boyfriend drives a Dakota, and I've commented on in it being pretty much the same as mine. -
Dude, that sucks. I know that's happened to quite a few of us. Hopefully the cherokee will work out! Comanches can be hard to fine, but if you keep looking you may be able to find one down the road.

yea it sucks. i like the looks of the swb more, and the handling. BUT i don't see any of you being able to load an old chapparel snowmobile (8' long, easily 600lbs) in your swb with nothing hanging over the end. DON'T make me do it.

What motor does it have? That will change what it's worth quite a bit.

WI is pretty lienient about what people can do to their vehicles...I believe when it comes to lift laws WI is one of the least restrictive. They probably don't care about cowls as long as you can see. Most of the cops here probably don't know what a cowled hood is anyway...

I love both my swbs, but I do curse sometimes that they can't turn as good as my XJ used to. I don't think I could own a lwb

From wikipedia.. The YJ used a 2.5 L AMC 150 I4 or optional 4.2 L AMC 258 I6 until 1991. That year, a fuel injected 180 hp (134 kW) 4.0 L AMC 242 variant replaced the 112 hp (84 kW) 4.2 L straight-6. The NP207 transfer case was used only in 1987 and replaced by the NP231

What transmission would a 95 Dakota with the 318 and an auto have? I've tried googling it, but searching the internet is the worst way to get info nowadays. Is it an AW4?

Very loud popping noise sometimes when turning.
Geonovast replied to Geonovast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Awesome, I hope that's all it is. Paid $70 for the axle and had to sink over $300 in it already. I'll check that when I'm freezing my @$$ off popping the front axle off the blue truck tomorrow. Did Pat talk to you about that Tim? -
I don't really collect anything, per se. I used to have a plethora of old computers(about 30 CRT monitors, roughly 35-40 cases, and boxes and boxes of parts). I got rid of most of it now though, and thanks to me St. Vincent De Paul had banned computer parts shortly before they removed their box from my town. A big hobby of mine though, is K'nex. (ya...ya...) But I think I've made some pretty nifty things the past few years. I made a model of a V8 that everything moved in. Crank, Pistons, Rockers, Valves. It wasn't all toooo detailed, but it was neat. Don't have any pics of that one, but here's the V4 I've made that's supposed to eventually run on magnets... And...the two speed shiftable tranny.

For a Helicopter company eh? What kind of employee discount are they giving you? :brows:

Truck never did it before I put the D30 on. It did it once after that, then was fine for the few months until the 4wd trans went in. About once every two weeks I'd say, I get a very, very loud pop/snapping noise when I turn. Sometimes I'm just turning a bit, other times it's a lot. I've double checked the new balljoints and bearings I put in. They seem fine. Any ideas? When the axle first went in, I replaced the axle side CA bolts with grade 8 bolts, but that caused a lot of clicking when braking(axle shifting). I put the original LCA bolts in, and rarely get any clicking from the top ones. Maybe it's a U-joint binding up? Only thing I can think of, and I really hope that's not it.

Another thing. With that, you pull the old motor out, drop the stroker and some minor other upgrades in (i.e. injectors) in, and you're done. Poof. V8 swaps take time, and modification. The 4.0 is a torquey little bastard as it is, and stroking it, I can imagine, is pretty freaking awesome. That's why I'm doing it.

Small block with stock drivetrain?
Geonovast replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That I do not know...but I'd imagine that you can run lines from the 318's pump to your current steering box. I can check my mom's bf's dakota to see if the box is the same. Or even if the pump is the same. I'm not really the one to talk to about a V8 swap...I just know the 4.0 and small block Mopars use the same bolt pattern. I was going to be putting an Ax-15 behind a 360 in a J10...but.. Stupid running out of money. -
35s on 6.5 lift any pics?
Geonovast replied to bhorocks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hey..I'm running the 2.5 on 3.55 on stock tires, and that thing cruises pretty damn good on the highway. The 2.5 can be a decent motor. I just wouldn't put bigger tires on mine cause...you know... 3.55... I could prolly throw 35s on the blue truck and that motor wouldn't give a $#!&. I got to drive Jeepco's 89 4.0 5 speed with 3.07s on 33s and it didn't complain. -

Geonovast replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You don't need to get a new bellhousing for a small block Mopar, they use the same bolt pattern as an Ax-15. Throw a 318 in, your tranny could probably handle it, but I'm sure you'll blow up a 35 pretty quick. Anything bigger than a 4.0, and you will need something stronger in the rear end. wait...nvm. You have an 8.8 don't you? -

You've got a 2.5 turning 33s? Damn... -
I heard this from a guy at work who heard from a WWII veteran. Apparently, back in 1942, they use to pack WWII Jeeps in 55 gallon drums, part by part, sealed in a thick grease. They'd ship them overseas, and the G.I.s would put them together on downtime. He also said that you can still purchase these trucks, still packed in grease, for somewhere between $50 and $200, plus shipping. Has anyone heard of this? The only website I've seen with any info on it said it was a Myth. If it's true, it would be a fun project to put together.

Marvel Mystery Oil Question!
Geonovast replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never heard of it. I usually don't bother trusting stuff like that though. You do not have to remove the transmission in order to replace the seal. Drop the pan, then pop off the rear crank bearing thingermabobber. (I can't recal what it's actually called atm.) DO NOT SCRATCH THE BEARING. That's what my brother did and effectively put a stop to my J10 existing. The rear main is a 2 piece seal, one stuck in the block and one in the thingermabobber. Having the tranny out would make it a great deal eaiser, but you don't have to. Have fun getting the pan out from under the truck.
