  1. Oh, I turned that off on the JK I owned. It had a setting for it on the gauge cluster menu.

  5. Someone put this as a sticky some time in the past which has been giving it much more attention than I expected. :P I compiled an easy list for do it yourself people and mainly wanted to share. It really needs some updates now as some of the parts are becoming harder to find or prices have gone up. In the end I am very happy with how this setup rides on the street. The rear is just a little too stiff, but evens out after putting some load back there. That is what a truck is for. :P
  6. Gauge clusters are expensive from the dealership. Not only for the reason of the part costs, but some times require paperwork to show the part was replaced with the proper mileage set.
  7. It usually means the Minifier script in /public/min/ on the server goofed and returned a bad response. Clearing your browsers cache usually fixes it.
  8. New short block is amazing regardless. I know Chrysler would try to rebuild anything or replace with refurbished if it meant saving a few dollars in warranty work. I can just imagine what would follow someone simply scratching a sole piece of chrome on Don's MJ.
  9. Pioneer Head Unit - Does all the fancy stuff, but only puts out 17 watts RMS per speaker... ...So I have to wire in this 8 AWG wire for a four channel amplifier to push 45 watts RMS to speakers and a subwoofer. The stock clutch master cylinder mount is perfect for running wires.

  11. The stock flares, but I ruined a rear Comanche flare attempting to modify it. I do have a full set of fully painted cargo box flare mounts now. :P
  12. Unichip can't do anything based on specified RPM. The F/IC sounds much more versatile, and newer better technology. Assume "strategies" are predefined maps? If so, can you create the maps with an ordinary laptop like the Unichip, or is it proprietary, i.e. special equipment needed? The software runs on Windows XP through 8.1. We should meet up some time so we can obsess over Comanche stuff. :P By strategies I mean how the unit operates. Some piggy packs play tricks with the MAP/TPS/IAT to make the PCM see different amounts or types of air to get the PCM to change the fuel trims. The F/IC directly changes the fuel trims while lying to the PCM about what the MAP/CRKPS/CAMPS are reporting.
  13. The Unichip can't do that. I can see the benefit. The Unichip can do that. Also the TPS and IAT signals. But it's fixed over the entire RPM bandwidth. Same for the F/IC? The F/IC only taps into the TPS for reference. Since it only uses strategies to modify the fuel and timing the air flow can be left alone. The F/IC has two extra analog signal modifiers that can be used for sensors such as the IAT. The maps are entirely configurable from RPM break points to being able to do stupid things like make the IAT read 0ºF at 3,000 RPM then suddenly 300ºF at 3,100 RPM.
  14. The 42RLE is an absolutely horrible transmission that was never designed for a heavy Jeep in the first place. It might be fine in a lighter Comanche. I already killed one 42RLE and having to manually shift an automatic transmission to get it to work reasonably well on hills is just a bad design flaw. That transmission can make a love for one's Jeep turn into a life long depression that can only be cured by a big stroker engine and a proper AW4 transmission.
  15. Fuel/Ignition Controller - One of the best piggy back controllers available. With it installed the PCM just fires across sensors inside the F/IC and no longer directly controls the fuel injectors. That way the F/IC has complete control over the injectors. It can then modify the MAP, crankshaft position sensor, and camshaft position sensors to make the PCM happy. For example, when I install the supercharger later I will be installing very large fuel injectors. At idle those injectors would cause the engine to run rich; assuming the PCM didn't stall the engine from attempting to trim the fuel back. So inside the F/IC tuning map a negative percentage can be applied to the injectors at idle and then removed once the RPMs/boost increases. Then as boost is added the MAP signal can be changed to never appear to be in boost to the stock PCM.
  16. AEM F/IC Installation - That bulge is a perfect spot to wire in without extending the AEM F/IC harness and have it mounted inside. Mounted to the driver kick plate. F/IC's USB B port is extended and mounted to the center console for easy access and tuning. I ended up getting the Napier Flares.
  17. Petroleum Jelly(Vaseline) is good for slathering all over parts.
  18. I can only drink so many straight shots of Barcardi 151 at a time. I like the gear stopping. Looks easy and slightly painful to remove!
  19. Assuming to keep the rear end a bit lower since he's SOA. Yep! A perfect 5.5" lift in the rear and the weight handling is still very good.
  20. Why are you replacing the smooth idler with a ribbed idler? That will tear the belt apart.

    Do you register the old tag? What makes the old tag valid? The plate can typically be endlessly transferred between vehicles and continually updated with a new registration sticker. The only time I can think that was broken on purpose is when in Pennsylvania the state said everyone must get a new style plate, but free of charge of course. Some states also sell custom historical vanity license plates that are designed to look like an older style plate.
  22. All 1996+ XJ transfer cases should be external slip yoke and 23 spline input. Since you have a 1991 MJ it should also have a 23 spline output from your existing AW4 transmission making it compatible with the new transfer case.(Making an assumption here on originality.) Otherwise you will have to count the splines if you are unsure of the transmission's age.
  23. Welcome to the club! The truck looks great and only looks like it needs a good exterior detail to shine.(Minus chipping graphics, doubt any of us managed to avoid that over the years.)
  24. Assume you have already stripped some of the remaining useful parts off number six, right? :D Yes, you have an addiction. :P My addiction is capped by garage space!
  25. Matching ratios to prevent excess drive train wear. No point in adding more differentiation when tires can already add some.
