My dad sent me this link because he’s thinking about joining the craze. I personally think that’s just a crazy price (though I do understand it’s a 91) for an average stock vehicle. What are your guy’s thoughts and opinions?

1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer

4.0 Liter w/ AW4 2WD

I'd say the price is maybe 5k to high but not to far off. What sells it for me is how unmolested the truck is...with the way things are these days think he may get that price though.

A few weeks ago a 1971 k5 blazer that was a called a "concourse restoration" went for 400k. I don't know how it had a lift kit and big tires so anything is possible.

These topics come up a lot… Ultimately it’s almost impossible to assign a value to these trucks. Keep in mind that there are so few on the road anymore that each one will carry a unique value. Some are scrap, others are gold and there are a lot in between. As someone who recently sold and also purchased an eliminator I can offer a relatively worthless opinion that it is likely worth close to asking. I doubt you will be able to get it for much less as there will likely be too much purchasing competition.

I'm not going to lie.  It's a bit on the high side.  I think 18k is more like it.  If I had that kind of money and it was made before Jan 1st 1989 I'd consider it.  We're moving to Australia hopefully in the next year or two.  It has to be manufactured before that date to avoid a crap ton of import restriction rules and avoid Right hand drive conversion.  I'd even consider selling my Subaru for it since it's not going anyways.  If we were closer I'd even consider my 2019 Frontier in the deal.  With what time I have left it would be nice to know that it's done and ready to ship at any time instead of me busting my arse to get it done on time.  These were not sold in Australia so once I'm on the boat I head to the wilderness and to a certain extent I've got what I got.  Only thing is it must be paid for in full to ship.  You must hand the title over at the port as part of its documentation packet to clear customs.  This way people don't buy cars in the USA and put them on boats and skip out on payments.  I could get my Jeeps to good stopping points and sell them how they are and apply them to the cost.  There's the extra cost of shipping, but if I truly cared (and I don't because I don't plan to ever sell it) it would be worth that in additional value once it rolls off the boat due to rarity and uniqueness. Supply vs Demand.  People will want it because it's rare, my value will be higher because as of right now there's only a hand full of them over there.  Right now I know of 5.  Once mine and another person I know that's moving there arrive and actually clear customs there will be 7. They guy I talk to on the regular that has an MJ in Australia says he gets real crazy offers to buy his all the time and his doesn't even venture the hour and a half into Sydney!

Only if I hit the lottery.  And maybe not even then.  I’d rather buy a good MJ and then pour the rest of the money into building it (or having it built) the way I would like it.
Not that a red ‘91 Eliminator is bad, it’s just not worth that much to me.

Just noticed in the description “5 Speed Automatic Transmission”.  It was my understanding the ‘91 still used the AX4 auto trans which continued to be used in ‘92 and later XJs.  Mine had an AX15 5 speed manual so no personal experience with the auto trans.
Other than that it appears to be a stock truck with new tires and speakers.

Still not worth $21,500 to me even if it did have that rare 5 speed auto trans.

AX4 was a manual four-speed. The AW4 four-speed auto would still be the factory automatic. My guess is it’s a mistake in the ad, I doubt it’s had a five speed swapped in.

Eh! AX4/AW4 - a little dyslexia or maybe CRS.

I can tell you that this truck has been listed several times on various sites over the past couple years and it's still available.

That said, seems the consensus is it's overpriced.  There are much nicer trucks (IMO) available for less money.

Fact remains, there's an a$$ for every seat, so they can ask whatever they want and maybe the plastic surgeon will buy it.
