  1. If I did not have a Comanche for the last 12 years, I would have searched for an eagle wagon. At the time I got the truck, it was much easier to find than an eagle. I wish I could have both!
  2. My 1986 Comanche got a little over 90K out of the original 2.8l Chevy V6. (Threw a rod.) My replacement 3.4l has a little more than 75K on it. It is running strong, but it is time to ditch the crummy carburetor!
  3. If somebody is crazy enough to pay that... but since it has a "5 speed automatic transmission", that would make it extremely rare!
  4. Thanks for this! I hadn't considered the possibility of a locking tailgate for my Comanche. I love the feature on my F150!
  5. Thanks for keeping it all Comanches! I have been a member for over 12 years. I have found so much information here for keeping my Comanche on the road!
  6. The Chevy 3.4l V6 is practically a plug and play replacement for the 2.8l. I have owned the 4.0 in the past (Cherokee), and upgraded my Comanche from a 2.8 to the 3.4. I was very pleased with the results. Only change was an electric fuel pump to replace the mechanical one, because the 3.4l does not have the opening for a mechanical pump.
  7. Be sure to get all the air out of your cooling system after changing the thermostat or you may end up with an overheating problem instead. On my 4.0 I usually had to leave the truck idling on an incline so that the air in the system would rise to the radiator and be expelled. I sometimes have to cycle through heatup / cooldown 3 or 4 times for the system to burp itself.
  8. The overflow tank is part of the pressurized cooling system. If it has a crack, your system will not build pressure (Approx. 15 p.s.i). Your coolant will boil at a much lower temperature if it is not pressurized. ( Straight water boils at 212 degrees at 0 psi versus 257 degrees at 15 psi.)
  9. So no one who has ever pulled the filler plug off the ax5 remembers the wrench size?
  10. I have an 86 Comanche XLS 4x4 with a 3.4l V6 and 5 speed that I am just finishing prepping for use as my daily driver. The one fluid I have not been able to check/fill is my 5 speed tranny. I will need to buy a closed end wrench, due to the restricted access on the side of the transmission. I live out of town a ways, and would like to make sure I get the right wrench the first time. The filler hole has a bolt/plug that seems to have a head size right around 1 inch. The Haynes book does not specify the size. Does any one know the actual size? Thanks for any info you can provide.
